Researchers said that it would fly past the Earth again in January next year, and then in 2055. In the 1970s, many people cared about energy. They had to face up to the fact that they used too much energy and energy sources(资源) which were not going to last forever. One architect(建筑师), Michael Reynolds, decided to do something. He started to create houses that were cheaper to build and more energy-saving. 31
Compared with common houses, earth-ships are made from rubbish. 32 What’s more, after earth-ships are built, they use only 10% of the energy required for heating, lighting and cooling in common houses.
One of the biggest advantages of earth-ships is that they are made from recycled materials. The main material of an earth-ship is used old tires(轮胎). 33 So the space is filled with used cardboard. The inside walls are made of old bottles.
34 For example, an earth-ship needs much less energy for heating and cooling because it is built into the ground. 35
All of these are good for the environment. That’s one of the reasons why they have become popular around the world. Earth-ships have been built in many countries. Maybe in the near future, an earth-ship will land near you!
A. Another advantage is that it saves energy.
B. Then he came up with the idea of building earthships.

What do you imagine cities will be like in the future Will we have smart buildings and flying cars Or robots that will pick up our rubbish What about schools Will we still go to school or will we study online from home Perhaps all the buildings and roads will be underground and we’ll just have parks and cycle lanes above.
Maybe or maybe not, but what we do know is that in the future, cities are going to have more and more people living in them. More than half the world’s people already live in cities, and by 2050, cities will become home to about 6.5 billion people. That’s a lot of people and very little space! More people means that we’re going to have more pollution, traffic and noise. It also means that we’ll need more homes, schools, hospitals, jobs and transport. We’ll need more resources, like water and energy, and more ways to grow food too. Oh, and more parks to play in!
Many cities are already planning for the future. For example, Bristol is a cycling city in England. You can hire a bike (instead of taking a car or bus) and ride in cycle lanes which are separated from the traffic. In Singapore, people are looking“up”to grow food! To save space, they grow vegetables in lots of layers in special tall buildings, called“vertical farms”. And in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, there are“floating houses” built on water instead of on land!
What do you think city life will be like in the future

In Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Yiwu, some small markets have introduced a new service called“cooked-to-order”. It allows customers to have their freshly bought foods prepared right there in the market, and the chefs can cook the meal for them very soon.
For a small fee, customers can hand over the vegetables, fish, or meat they’ve just bought, and have them cooked at the markets, so they can bring home a hot meal. This service has become very popular.
At Yiwu’s Xinma Road Neighborhood Market, the Runyu Food Processing Workshop has been a key driver of this trend(趋势). Customers can request their food to be prepared in different ways, from stir-frying to stewing, based on their preferences. They can either eat there or take their freshly prepared meals to go. The processing fee depends on the complexity of each dish, or how hard the dish is to make.
“Customers really like it,”said chef Zhou Kaikai, who works at Runyu. Every day, the workshop handles about 40 orders, with around 100 dishes prepared in total. Open daily from 9 am to around 7 pm, Runyu lists clear prices for different dishes, such as 10 yuan for stir-fried vegetables, 15 yuan for meat dishes and 20 yuan for complex cooking items.
Jin Jingxiu, a staff member at Xinma Road Neighborhood Market, said the cooked-to-order service helps the market keep up with the fast-paced, modern lifestyle. “People like seeing the cooking process. They find the service more reliable(可信赖的) than restaurant or delivery options,”Jin said.
