Do you agree with gene (基因) editing
Andy: Every year, many babies are born with genetic (遗传的) problems. If we can get rid of these problems by editing their genes, we can save many lives. Meanwhile, editing genes allows parents to choose their babies’ appearance and even intelligence. This can give their children a better future. However, to stop some people from using this technology in bad ways, it’s necessary to have laws that tell us how we are allowed to edit genes.
Diana: Parents make the decision to edit a baby’s genes without their children’s agreement. This goes against the rights of these unborn children. More importantly, this technology may destroy humans’ genetic diversity (多样性) . In my opinion, you are unique and no one can replace you. However, this could change if parents can edit their babies’ genes. Everyone might look the same someday.
Cici: This new technology can help fix babies’ problems that they are born with, like heart diseases. Many children suffer from these things. ________ But with this technology, all babies can be born healthy and their parents won’t have to worry about them.
Kate: This technology could be risky. It could result in some problems for babies if it is not used properly. Their parents may regret this. What’s worse, if only rich people can afford it, gene editing could be seen as unfair to poor families. The rich would be able to make their children clever and good-looking, while ordinary people could not. Rich families would get richer and poor families would get poorer.

As the most popular drink in the world (after water), tea is no stranger to us. But how much do you know about tea sets Do you know that they have changed a lot over time
In general, tea sets become smaller and simpler after many changes throughout history. There are few records of tea sets before the Tang Dynasty. In Cha Jing (The Classic of Tea), a great book written by Lu Yu in the Tang Dynasty, 28 kinds of tools used for making and drinking tea are mentioned.
The tea sets in the Tang Dynasty were simple while the ones in the Song Dynasty were more gorgeous (华丽的). In the Song Dynasty, the competitive game based on tea drinking enjoyed great popularity. The tea bottle used in the game often had a big belly, a long neck and a curved (弧形的) mouth, which could control the water better when filling a cup. Cups made of black glaze (黑釉) were especially loved by people then. The color matches the tea better and the thickness of the cup can help keep the tea warm.
In the Ming and Qing dynasties, tea sets became simple again, and those made of gold and silver gradually disappeared. To test the color of the tea, white tea sets were more popular. In the Qing Dynasty, purple clay tea sets made in Yixing, Jiangsu flourished and were loved widely. Slow travel is about connecting deeply with your travels. Rather than rushing from one place to another, slow travelers treat each experience as an opportunity to learn and feel more deeply to the people, culture, and food they want to explore. 31
Relax and enjoy
Once, a vacation provided relaxation from the stress of everyday life. But over time, we began trying to put everything we want into a checklist. 32 Slow travel exchanges checklists for the chance to really enjoy a place. It’s amazing how much more involved you can be when you’re not in a rush. It’s easier to relax and look forward to whatever the day brings.
Have more memorable experiences
If you’re used to jumping from one attraction after another, the idea of slow travel may feel like you’ll miss the latest Top 10. In fact, you free yourself from scratching the surface of everything without enjoying anything. 33 Go to one museum and study the art and architecture, get the backstory rather than running through three museums and taking some photos quickly. Appreciate the destination.
Meet people and actually get to know them
When you decide to take the slow travel route, you free yourself up to meet and spend time with others. You can meet locals at a park or restaurant and enjoy a conversation. Learn about the people on your food tour. You may even decide that you like someone enough to meet him/her later for lunch or a coffee. 34 because you are not rushing to the next big thing.

Xie Wanying, also known by her pen name Bing Xin, was a famous Chinese poet born in Fuzhou, Fujian province in 1900. Despite traveling widely, she often wrote about her hometown and its beautiful women. In her essay The Charms of My Hometown, published in 1990, Bing Xin described the strong and pretty peasant women of Fuzhou, who wore their black hair with three shining silver hairpins, like sharp blades.
These hairpins, called “tri-hairpins(三条簪)”, are made of one vertical pin and two near-horizontal pins, each about 20 centimeters long and weighing 35 to 50 grams. While some were made of gold, most were silver or white bronze, and poorer families used bamboo. The hairpins, with their pointed tips and engraved patterns, resembled swords.
The history of tri-hairpins dates back to the Western Jin dynasty, as mentioned in the Book of Jin. Women wore headdresses shaped like “five weapons”, believed to get rid of bad luck. Another story says that during the Ming and Qing dynasties, Fuzhou women used their hair as knives to defend against pirates.
In 1917, Zhang Zunxu wrote about Fuzhou women wearing knife-like hairpins, comparing them to ancient Roman armies. However, in 1930, Fang Shengtao, the acting governor of Fujian, banned tri-hairpins. Police would remove them in public. Eventually, the ban led to the disappearance of tri-hairpins.
Recently, tri-hairpins are making a comeback in Fuzhou. Photography studios offer ancient headpieces, and young women wear tri-hairpins for photos in historic settings. The revival is thanks to hanfu designer Huang Qiuhui and her team, who recreated the hairpins from old photographs. Huang believes the tri-hairpin’s spirit of courage and balance is admirable and should be passed down.
The modern tri-hairpin has a calligraphy brush-like tip and colorful decorations, symbolizing good fortune and appealing to young people’s preferences, giving the tri-hairpin a new life in the 21st century.

Do you want to eat healthier Try Food Trainer! This app, also called FoodT, was developed by a group of scientists at the University of Exeter(埃克寨特大学)in the U.K. It helps people eat less junk food through a game.
In the free game, healthy food always appears in green circles and unhealthy food always comes in red circles. Some other everyday objects, such as pencils and sweaters, appear randomly(随机地)in the green or red circles. Once a user chooses an object in the green circle, he or she gets a point. But choosing an object in the red circle gets a point deducted(扣除).
Does this simple game work well The developers of the app carried out a study. They worked with some scientists from the University of Helsinki(赫尔辛基大学)in Finland. Together they invited more than 1,200 volunteers to play the game once a day. After a month, the volunteers reported changes in their diet and weight. Most of them said they had started eating more healthy food. Some volunteers used to eat junk food two to four times a week. At the end of the study, they had reduced this to once a week. On average(平均而言), each volunteer lost more than half a kilogram of weight.
Why does the app work so well It's because it uses brain training techniques to help people be less thirsty for junk food. Through practice, the game trains users' brains to “put the brakes on” as soon as they see junk food. This helps users say no to unhealthy food in their daily lives!
Now, with app Food Trainer, people can eat healthily with its help. In fact, it can be further improved so that more people can get its help. It is also hoped that more such apps will be developed.
