South Korean writer Han Kang(韩江) won this year's Nobel Prize in Literature. This is the first time the top literary award has honored a Korean author.
Han made a name for herself as a writer in 1993 with the publication of several poems. For a long time, however, she wasn't well known in 11 . That changed when the English translation of her novel The Vegetarian (《素食者》) hit the shelves. Her rise to fame shows the 12 that translators have in the literary world. They do more than translate; they shape the way books are 13 around the world.
Deborah Smith is the British translator of The Vegetarian. In 2009, she decided to learn a(n) 14 for fun. She chose Korean because “there was hardly anything Korean in English”. A few years later, Smith came across Han's writing while studying for her Ph.D.(博士学位) in Korean literature. She won an editor's heart with her translation of The Vegetarian. The book was Han's 15 to appear in English. It came out in 2015 and won the International Booker Prize the following year.
Since then, The Vegetarian has been translated into more than thirty languages. And Korean books are popping up in English like never before. Han believes that this 16 interest in Korean stories may have something to do with her Booker win.
Major awards like the Nobel Prize and the International Booker Prize may be the peak of an author's career. But 17 English translations, the judges wouldn't have been able to read many of these now award-winning books. It is especially 18 to translate Asian languages into English. Translators must make unclear and lengthy (冗长的) expressions clear, brief and also sound good. The cultural 19 are worlds apart, too. “It's a tiring job. You have to work through a dark tunnel to find perfect matches between two languages,” Han once said. But we must 20 this tunnel. After all, few readers in the West can take this journey on their own.

Most foreigners go to the Bund or the Great Wall for their first visit to China. But I have never wanted to follow the crowd. On my friends' recommendation, I picked an unusual destination: theTiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan province. The area is truly one of the country's natural treasures.
Most visitors to the gorge only took a bus ride along the Jinsha River. To discover its real beauty, however, one must take a hike on the northern side of the gorge. The hike is tiring. It takes most people two days to complete it, and some three. But it would be worth the time and effort. The hike was, for me at least, one of the most memorable trips ever.
The first part of my hike ran through green wheat fields. At this point, it was easy to enjoy the view and take photos. The scenery simply took my breath away.
Then, I reached perhaps the hardest section of the hike. It was called “Twenty-Eight Bends”. Dozens of steep switchbacks(之字形路) snaked up the mountainside. No one was sure where these bends started or ended. Right after I conquered(征服) the 17th bend, I saw a sign that read: “Get ready for another 28 bends!”
There was no need to be afraid, though. Several local villagers were waiting by the side of the path with their donkeys(驴). Anytime a hiker needed a ride, all he or she had to do was hand over a few coins.
After these bends, the hiking path flattened out. The rest of the day was easier. Most people ended their first-day hike at a halfway guesthouse in the early evening, just in time for a beautiful sunset. As another hiker put it, it was “postcard perfect”.
The second day was less tiring. I walked slowly across a bamboo forest that led to a small beach. There were many streams. A waterfall was flowing directly over the path.In the early afternoon, I reached the end of the hike.
If you are looking for natural wonders, plus a bit of adventure, the Tiger Leaping Gorge is definitely for you. And don't worry—it was named according to a bit of old folklore(民间传说), so you are unlikely to meet a real tiger on your hike!
26.How many days did it take the author to complete his hike at the Tiger Leaping Gorge
A.One and a half. B.Two. C.Two and a half. D.Three.
27.Which of the following statements about “Twenty-Eight Bends” is correct
A.The bends winded up to the top of the mountain.
B.The section is known for its narrow paths.
C.The section wasn’t only made up of twenty-eight bends.
D.The bends started from the green wheat field.
28.According to the article, some villagers were waiting at the end of “Twenty-Eight Bends” to_______.
A.take pictures of travelers for free
B.make money by offering tired hikers a ride
C.introduce the history of the section to travelers
D.warn travelers that the section was very dangerous

“Hello,” says a friendly voice. “My name is Temi.”
For a moment, I'm tongue-tied. I look at the one-meter-tall machine, and it looks back at me. I've never met a robot before!
Temi says its job is to help humans. 31 They check on patients, bring items to customers, and do some other things.
While Temi has taken on many human jobs, you'd never mistake it for a person. The robot has a screen for a “face”. Its “body” looks like a vacuum(真空吸尘器).
32 These products of technology are at the center of a debate: Should they be made to look like humans or just like what they are—machines
Robots are playing an increasingly bigger role in our lives. In some countries, robots have been entertaining kids and assisting the elderly. Some experts say robots will be more effective at such jobs if they look like humans. 33
“Humanizing the machines can turn cold technology into something that speaks to the human heart,” said roboticist(机器人专家) David Hanson. Hanson is the creator of Sophia, one of the most human-like robots ever built.
34 Just look at popular fictional(虛构的) robots like WALLE. They don't look like us at all.
Plus, human-like robots have disadvantages, these experts say. For one thing, they may leave us feeling disappointed. 35 However, robots can't always do that yet. For example, they can't laugh at the right moments during a conversation. Many people also find human-like robots frightening.
What's more, the human body is not the best design for many of the jobs we want robots to do. Just think of small, flat robot vacuums. They can go under a sofa to pick up the dust balls. Can human-like robots also do this
A. Robots don't have to look like humans.
B. If robots look like us, we may expect them to act like us.
C. Research has shown that people feel closer to human-like robots.
D. There are about 8,000 Temis in hospitals and shops around the world.
E. However, some robots are now being designed to look as human as possible.
F. Although they have many advantages, many people are unhappy about their designs.
G. But other experts say robots don't need to appear human for us to connect with them.

Do you know traditional Chinese flower arrangement Do you know Zhang Yan ZhangYan is an inheritor(传承人) of traditional Chinese flower arrangement. She first met traditional Chinese flower arrangement in college from an optional course(选修课程) she took. Back then, she never imagined that a single course could be the starting point of her life-long career.
The art of traditional Chinese flower arrangement has been handed down since 1046 BC. Historical records show it has served as offerings at temples, decorations in the palace and art at homes. “Though flower arrangement has a history of more than 3,000 years, the image of flower arrangement sometimes is still considered as the bouquets(花束) they see in flower shops,” Zhang said. To break that stereotype(刻板印象), Zhang began to study historical records on flower arrangement in China. In 2008, traditional Chinese flower arrangement was included in the second batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage(非物质文化遗产). It is the art form's rich historical connotation(内涵) that makes it heritage, and this national recognition(赏识) would lead to more public awareness.
Traditional Chinese flower arrangement is not only a decoration, but can also serve as a a form of therapy(治疗)for modern busy people. “Unlike its Western counterpart, traditional Chinese flower arrangement emphasizes simplicity,” Zhang said. The arranger must decide on what is truly necessary in his or her work and remove the rest. Sometimes learners are moved to tears because they begin to reflect on what’s truly necessary in their lives.
“It came from traditional Chinese culture, and it is part of it,” Zhang argued. “Only when it absorbs lots of nutrition(营养) from traditional Chinese culture can it bloom and be world-known. Our aim is to develop and inherit traditional Chinese culture.

Do you often put off doing something that you should be doing It's called procrastination(拖延症). Most of the tasks that you procrastinate on aren't actually difficult to do—you have the skills to complete them—you just don't want to start them for one reason or another.
2-Minute Rule is a method of dealing with the problem and the goal is to make it easier for you to get started on the things you should be doing. It includes two parts. Part One comes from David Allen's book, Getting Things Done. It's surprising how many things we put off that we could get done in two minutes or less, for example, taking out the litter, cleaning up your desk and sending an email. If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, then follow the rule and do it right now.
Can all of your goals be achieved in less than two minutes Of course not. But every goal can be started in two minutes or less. And that's the purpose behind the rule's second part. Once you start doing something, it's easier to continue doing it. The most important part of any new habit is getting started—not just the first time, but each time. I love the 2-Minute Rule because it accepts the idea that all good things happen once you get started.
Want to study better Just pick up your books(2-Minute Rule)and begin reading or learning, and soon you will memorize the knowledge that seems difficult to learn。
Want to become a better writer Just write one sentence(2-Minute Rule)and you'll probably find yourself writing for an hour.
Want to make reading a habit Just read the first page of a new book(2-Minute Rule)and before you know it, you have read the first ten pages.
Use next 120 seconds to get one thing done. Go!

A Moving Moment
Junior high school was filled with unforgettable memories, but one moment stands out as truly special. It was a simple yet powerful experience that taught me the value of kindness and friendship.
On a rainy afternoon, I forgot my umbrella and was about to walk home in the heavy rain. Just as I stepped outside, my classmate Li Hua noticed and immediately shared his umbrella with me. Though we weren’t close before, he walked me all the way home, making sure I stayed dry. His selfless act warmed my heart.
This moment made me realize how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Since then, I’ve tried to help others whenever possible, hoping to pass on the same warmth I felt that day.
