Although technology brings
convenience, overuse may lead to isolation”)。
ethical to...
ethics”)。
因果链分析:关注“due to”“as a result”等词,理清论据与结论关系(如“数据 A→现象 B→作

Do you smile after leaving a barber shop This question is being talked about a lot on the
Internet again. It’s because a barber shop named Xiaohua in Hunan has become very popular
through live-streaming.
Xiaohua has been open for 11 years. People like it because it has low prices and a great
barber named Li Jing. Li Jing can always meet customers’ needs in the live-streams.
But Xiaohua is different from most barber shops. Many people still face problems like
expensive prices and barbers who don’t understand what they want. A survey by China Youth
Daily found that more than half of 1,314 people think the hairdressing service needs to be
improved.
I have the same feeling. Barbers often don’t understand my needs. A simple cut often turns
out bad. And they don’t thin my thick hair well. Bangs are the worst. Some cut them too long,
some too short, and they all say it’s the best for my face or style.
Liu Zhensheng, 48, who has been a barber in Beijing for 33 years, said customer
dissatisfaction is because of bad skills, confusion or barbers not listening. Some stores only
promise to do the same style according to the pictures displayed by customers, without really
discussing what customers want. But everyone’s hair, face, and bone structure are different, so
getting a haircut may be disappointing.
Also, the prices in many barber shops are very high. Near my home, in a chain barber shop,
the price for a simple haircut can be from 64 to 241 yuan depending on the barber’s title like
“chief designer”, “technical director” or “creative director”. These titles are confusing.
Liu said high prices are because of the shop’s design, facilities, fame and service, not
because of skills. But barber shops should focus on meeting customers’ needs.
The authorities should also pay attention to and reduce unfair prices. If the hairdressing
industry could provide a price guide for services, that would be great. In the long run, sincerity is
very important. Barbershops should listen to customers’ voices, pay attention to details, avoid
playing tricks, and choose products carefully.

What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life Somebody mentions
hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.
If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的顺序)and use numbers to
represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word
into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11="98," meaning 98 is its mark;
knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5="96," while love: 12+15+22+5="54," and luck:
12+21+3+11="47," a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about
money It can’t , either.
Then what else Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life,
when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude. Yes, attitude is
the word. See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark.
Most times people hope for a better life. It is possible if you will have a change for the better
after you have changed your attitude. When you change your manner and become friendly to
others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards you.

Don’t you find fewer and fewer animals can be seen in nature Do you know more and
more animals are in danger of disappearance How to protect the endangered animals is a great
problem for us all. I personally suggest that the best way to do this is to build more national wild
animal parks.
Firstly, national parks protect the animals’ natural home. The forests that farmers clear for
new fields, and the trees that are cut down to be used for buildings, are just animals’ home. If their
home is destroyed, many animals are unable to live any longer. And more of them will disappear.
Secondly, national parks protect animals from the danger of being hunted. A main reason
why many kinds are endangered is that hunters kill them for their skins, horns and so on.
On the other hand, some people are against building national parks. They consider that the
national parks will interfere (妨碍) with them. They say wild animals are happier in the wild,
though they meet some dangers.
All in all, though the disadvantages are far less important than the advantages of the
national parks. These parks allow animals to live in safety in their natural environment by
protecting from their greatest enemy--- humans.
1.The writer thinks the best way to save these animals is ________.
A.to plant more trees B.to put animals in the forests
C.to let animals live in nature D.to build national parks
2.One of the advantages of building national parks is that ________.
A.animals can live there freely
B.animals can escape from the danger of being hunted
C.people can go to see them easily
D.animals can eat something they want
3.Some people who are against building national parks think animals should live ________.
A.in the wild B.in the forests
C.in the zoos D.in the mountains
4.National parks offer ________ to many endangered animals according to the passage.
A.big and clean room B.a safe and natural environment
C.delicious food D.good nurses
5.The main reason for the animals being endangered is that ________.
A.people cut down trees B.people clear the forests for fields

With the development of technology, smartphones are widely used in our life. As a result,
people pay less attention to their handwriting, which has become a dying art. Some people argue
that grading (打分) students’ handwriting is helpful. Others, however, say it is something to be
admired but not given grades. Handwriting helps to improve the brain, but it’s not worth grading.
YES—grades make you work harder
Handwriting is important for students, both in their schoolwork and their daily life. So kids
should be prepared. Also, studies have shown that writing by hand is better for the brain and helps
people understand and memorize materials better. It requires them to focus on spelling and
grammar because they can’t use spell-check. What’s more, if students are being graded on their
handwriting, they’ll take this skill seriously. Even if they have poor handwriting at first, it can be
improved with practice. Grading will only drive them to do better and feel proud of their progress.
NO—it’s a waste of time
Students shouldn’t be graded on handwriting because the content (内容) is more important,
not what it looks like. We can learn from history that handwriting can’t always tell the potential
Scientist Albert Einstein and artist Pablo Picasso had great achievements, but look at their
handwriting! Since students have already been under too much pressure, why give them one more
thing to worry about Besides, grading people’s handwriting would be unfair to students with
physical problems. And it’s hard to grade fairly because no two people write the same way.
1.The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refers (指) to _____________.
A.technology B.handwriting C.the grade D.the brain
2.There are advantages of grading handwriting except ______________.
A.paying attention to spelling B.reducing grammar mistakes
C.making the content better D.driving students to write better
3.We can know that Einstein and Picasso might have _________ handwriting.
A.clear B.poor C.pretty D.normal
4.What can we learn from Paragraph 3
A.People hardly write in similar ways.
B.The idea is less important than handwriting.
C.It is easy to give points to people's handwriting.
D.Students with physical problems are graded fairly.
5.What can be the best title for the passage
A.Handwriting is a Waste of Time B.Handwriting Makes You Work Harder
C.Should Handwriting be Graded D.How to Improve Students' Handwriting

also study online. Do you have any online classes It is possible to take classes at home. All you
need is a computer and an earphone.
However, most students don’t seem to like online classes. Recently, over 2000 students
from 10 cities took part in a survey (调查). According to the survey, only about 35 percent of the
students like taking such classes.
Many students said it was hard to focus on studying while taking online classes. This was
true for Li Jing, 15, at No. 1 High School. “There are no classmates and no real teachers watching
me. I can surf the Internet or do other things if I want to. It’s harder to always stay focused (专注
的),” she said.
Li Jing prepares a lot before taking her classes to make sure she will keep her attention (注
She also pushes herself to communicate with teachers. Students can come up with or
answer questions while taking online classes.
Tian Lishan, 14, at No. 7 High School, thinks online interaction (互动) isn’t enough. “The
online teachers don’t really get to know me. When I don’t hand in homework, all I get is a short
message instead of real concern,” she said.

WeChat (微信) is becoming more and more popular, many families have a family group on
Wechat. What do you think of family groups
I am Zhang Xinyu. I like to have a family group on WeChat. It’s important to have a good
relationship with our family members. In my family’s WeChat group, we often share photos that
show our daily lives. We freely talk about our work, school, or even entertainment (娱乐). It is
nice to communicate with my families.
I am Wei Hua from Shandong. WeChat family groups can help us do lots of things. For
example, if you want to tell something to your family, you can just send a single message to the
group instead of meeting each member separately. This saves a lot of time. Also, not everyone
meets every other family member often. But family groups allow us to share our lives with
everyone.
I am Liu Xing. Many people share their photos, addresses, and other private information in
their WeChat family groups, which is not safe. Also, my family members often talk about
something that has nothing to do with me, but I have to spend time checking the messages
anyway. It causes me to spend more time on my phone.

The world is full of screens. They are on TVs, computers and smartphones. Screens are at
school, at home, and just about everywhere in between. The time people spend every day looking
at screens is known as “screen time”. Most families have rules about how much time children can
spend with screens. Why do they have rules Are there good reasons to limit screen time
In many ways, screens are helpful for communication and connecting with other people.
Social media (社交媒体) and video calls allow people to be always in touch with one another.
Screen time can also help people build new relationships. By sharing and commenting on videos,
photos, games or music, people can meet others who have similar interests.
However, some adults are worried that young people spend too much time on screens and
not enough time meeting people in real life. As a result, they may not properly understand feelings
or develop strong relationships.
Many kinds of screen time may be good for students. Students may use screen time to
develop their skills in creating music or videos. They may even learn skills such as coding (编程)
computer programs. When students use their screen time to do research online, they may meet
people who are different from them or ideas they have never thought about before.
However, some researchers think that screens change how the brain processes information.
Some have linked (连接) screen time to lower test scores or less attention time.
In the future, scientists will continue studying the effects of screen time. Parents will likely
continue to make rules limiting screen time. Plenty of good things can come from all this screen
time, but it’s a good idea for people to pay attention to how much time in a day they spend looking
at a screen. They should know how screen time influences their health, relationships and learning.
1.The writer starts the passage by ________.
A.giving an example B.listing numbers
C.explaining the facts D.comparing differences
2.Which group of screen-time activities would “coding” belong to

3.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Young people. B.Researchers. C.Teachers. D.Some adults.
4.What’s the writer’s opinion on screen time
A.For adults, screen time should not be limited.
B.People should make good use of screen time.
C.Young people had better stop using screen time.
D.It’s better for students to use screen time at home.
5.What would be the best title for the passage
A.What Is Screen Time B.Screens Are Everywhere
C.Screen Time and Learning D.Is Screen Time Good or Bad

After years of observing human nature, I have decided the two qualities that make the
difference between men of great achievement and men of average performance are curiosity and
disconten(t 不满足). I have never known an outstanding man who lacked either. And I have never
known an average man who had both. The two belong together.
Together, these deep human urges(驱策力)count for much more than ambition. Galileo
was not merely ambitious when he dropped objects of varying weights from the Leaning Tower at
Pisa and timed their fall to the ground. Like Galileo, all the great names in history were curious
and asked in discontent, “Why Why Why ”
Fortunately, curiosity and discontent don't have to be learned. We are born with them and
need only recapture them.
“The great man,” said Mencius(孟子)“is he who does not lose his child's heart. ” Yet most
of us do lose it.We stop asking questions. We stop challenging custom. We just follow the crowd.
And the crowd desires restful average. It encourages us to occupy our own little corner, to avoid
foolish leaps into the dark, to be satisfied.
Most of us meet new people, and new ideas, with hesitation. But once having met and liked
them, we think terrible it would have been, had we missed the chance. We will probably have to
force ourselves to waken our curiosity and discontent and keep them awake.
How should you start Modestly, so as not to become discouraged. I think of one friend
who couldn't arrange flowers to satisfy herself. She was curious about how the experts did it. Now
she is one of the experts, writing books on flower arrangement.
One way to begin is to answer your own excuses. You haven't any special ability Most
people don't; there are only a few geniuses. You haven't any time That's good, because it's always
the people with no time who get things done. Harriet Stowe, mother of six, wrote parts of Uncle
Tom's Cabin while cooking. You're too old Remember that Thomas Costain was 57 when he
published his first novel, and that Grandma Moses showed her first pictures when she was 78.
However you start, remember there is no better time to start than right now, for you’ll never
be more alive than you are at this moment.
1.In writing Paragraph 1, the author aims to .
A.propose a definition B.make a comparison
C.reach a conclusion D.present an argument
2.What does the example of Galileo tell us
A.Trial and error leads to the finding of truth.
B.Scientists tend to be curious and ambitious.
C.Creativity results from challenging authority.
D.Greatness comes from a lasting desire to explore.
3.Which of the following can NOT help recapture curiosity and discontent
A.Explore the unknown around you.
B.Embrace new ideas with hesitation.
C.Lead a life full of challenges.
D.Develop a questioning mind.
4.What can we learn from Paragraph 7
A.Gaining success helps you become an expert.
B.The genius tends to get things done creatively.
C.Lack of talent and time is no reason for taking no action.
D.You should remain modest when approaching perfection.
5.What could be the best title of the passage
A.Curious Minds Feel Contented B.Reflections on Human Nature
C.The Keys to Achievement D.Never Too Late to Learn

Strawberries look nice, but a light pressure can make them out of shape. Nowadays, there
are many young people who are just like strawberries. They easily break down when they face
difficulties. They don’t know what to do when they are in trouble. They have a common name -
strawberry kids.
Why are many students so easy to break down Parents and schools are a main reason.
Parents do almost everything for them in their daily life, while schools care more about their
grades instead of developing their personality (个性).
Liu Yue, 13, is from Fujian. His mom hardly criticizes (批评) him and he always feels good
about himself. When a teacher criticized him strictly, he felt surprised and sad. He began to doubt
his ability.
Students should do something to make themselves mentally (心理上) strong. An expert
said, “When you are in trouble, don't ask for help too quickly. You should try to deal with
problems first by yourself. I also advise you to take an active part in sports and social activities.
That can make you mentally strong.”
Growing up is not just a happy process (过 程 ). Pains also go along with it. The most
important thing is to face the pains bravely and learn from them.
1.Why are some students called “strawberry kids”
A.Because they all like to eat strawberries.
B.Because a light pressure can make them out of shape.
C.They easily break down when they face difficulties.
D.Because they plant strawberries when they are in trouble.
2.Which’s a main reason of becoming strawberry kids
A.Teachers criticize them strictly. B.Schools develop their personality.
C.Kids care more about their own grades. D.Parents do almost everything for them.
3.How did Liu Yue feel when his teacher was strict with him
A.Surprised and sad. B.Angry and worried.
C.Nervous and afraid. D.Happy and hard-working.
4.According to the 4th paragraph, what shouldn’t the students do when they are in trouble
A.Ask for help too quickly. B.Join the basketball club.
C.Help clean up the city parks. D.Try to deal with problems first by yourself.
5.What does the writer advise students to do in the face of pains
A.Doubt their abilities. B.Face the pains bravely.
C.Keep away from the pains D.Learn from the strawberry kids.

1.Why did Xiaohua barbershop become popular
A.Because of its high prices.
B.Because of its good location.
C.Because of its low prices and a great barber.
D.Because of its fancy interior design.
2.What are the factors that cause high prices in some barber shops, according to Liu
A.Good skills and service. B.Shop design and facilities.
C.High-quality products. D.Frequent promotions.
3.According to the article, what is a common problem customers face at barber shops
A.They always pay extra fees.
B.They often get exactly what they want.
C.They face expensive prices and misunderstandings.
D.They are always satisfied with the service.
4.Which of the following statements is correct
A.The skills of barbers are the main reason for high prices.
B.Most barbers can understand customers’ needs.
C.The hairdressing industry needs to improve its design, facilities.
D.A sincere attitude is crucial for the long-term success of barber shops.
5.What is the main idea of this passage
A.The introduction of Xiaohua barbershop.
B.The problems and suggestions of the hairdressing industry.

hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck.
If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的顺序)and use numbers to
represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word
into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11="98," meaning 98 is its mark;
knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5="96," while love: 12+15+22+5="54," and luck:
12+21+3+11="47," a small mark. None of these words can give one a full mark. What about
money It can’t , either.
Then what else Don’t be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life,
when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude. Yes, attitude is
the word. See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark.

C.people kill animals D.natural parks interfere with animals

C.Should Handwriting be Graded D.How to Improve Students' Handwriting

spell-check. What’s more, if students are being graded on their handwriting, they’ll take this skill
seriously.”和“Grading will only drive them to do better and feel proud of their progress.”
根据“NO—it’s a waste of time”和“Scientist Albert Einstein and artist Pablo
Picasso had great achievements, but look at their handwriting!”
And it’s hard to grade fairly because no two people write the same way.”
故选 A。。

2.Which group of screen-time activities would “coding” belong to
A.Social media. B.Playing games. C.Learning skills. D.Researching online.
3.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 3 refer to

4.What’s the writer’s opinion on screen time
A.For adults, screen time should not be limited.
B.People should make good use of screen time.
C.Young people had better stop using screen time.
D.It’s better for students to use screen time at home.
5.What would be the best title for the passage
