三、阅读理解
A
Sleep and exercise work together like gears (齿轮) in a machine. When one works well, the other does too. Good sleep helps you exercise better, while exercise lowers stress and can help you fall asleep faster. However, just as the benefits go hand-in-hand, so does the bad influence. Exercising too much, too late in the day, or too often can backfire, making it harder to fall or stay asleep.
There’s no question that exercise is mostly good for sleep, but you can’t overdo it. Poor sleep is one of the results of overtraining. The benefits of exercise often come from moderate (适度的) activities, like walking, jogging, or cycling. High-intensity (高强度) exercise, on the other hand, like a half-marathon, can do harm to one’s sleep. It raises heart rate and blood pressure, which is not good for sleeping. The timing of exercise matters too. A recent study finds that any physical activity after 8 p. m. causes people to sleep less, and another study shows that high-intensity exercise ending one hour before bed may make it harder to fall asleep.
While researchers haven’t agreed on the best exercise routine for better sleep, a study advises people to add moderate exercise to other traditional ways to improve sleep. Dr. Kline suggested exercising at the same time every day as well. It’s important to be mindful of intensity and timing, pay attention to muscle pain, and find the right balance. If evening exercise leaves you feeling stressed, switch (转换) to mornings or afternoons. If the evening is your only free time, try exercising less and at a lower intensity.
Above all, find the routine that works for you. It can take weeks and months for an exercise habit to lead to better sleep, and the short-term effects can be pretty small. But once you find your routine, the gears will start turning again—you will sleep better after being active, and your workouts will feel easier as you sleep through the night.
21.What does the word “backfire” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.Slow down progress. B.Bring about improvement.
C.Make things worse. D.Keep things unchanged.
22.The writer probably agrees that ________.
A.better sleep comes after high-intensity workouts
B.having the right exercise routine improves sleep
C.we can improve our sleep quickly by doing moderate exercises
D.we should keep our morning exercise at a low intensity when possible
23.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To talk about possible risks of wrong exercise timing.
B.To introduce new research findings about sleep and exercise.
C.To give suggestions on how to improve sleep through exercise.
D.To show the differences between some common exercise routines.

China is trying to help people control their weight and live healthier lives. The government has started a three-year “Weight Management Year” plan (“体重管理年”计划) from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity (肥胖). Obesity can cause serious health problems. Here’s what you should know about the new guidelines (指南).
First, eating well is very important! When it comes to food, choose healthy food like fruit and vegetables. Don’t eat fried foods. Eat less salt and oil. For exercise, try to do 150-300 minutes of activities like walking, cycling, or dancing every week. If you sit for a long time while studying, stand up and stretch for 3-5 minutes every hour. Besides, small daily habits can also make a big difference. Teens should sleep 7 hours every night because bad sleep can make you gain weight.
Schools and communities are also helping. For example, schools in Shanghai now make sure students exercise for at least two hours every day, and hospitals have “weight clinics” with diet plans, exercise advice, and even traditional Chinese ways like acupuncture (针灸). By 2030, China hopes to slow down the increase of obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about being perfect—just start with small changes, like drinking water instead of soda or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. With these easy steps, everyone can have a healthier future.
24.What is the main goal of China’s “Weight Management Year” plan
A.To make traditional Chinese food popular. B.To encourage people to join sports competitions.
C.To teach students how to cook healthy meals. D.To reduce obesity and improve public health.
25.Why do schools in Shanghai ask students to exercise for two hours daily
A.To prepare them for sports competitions. B.To cut down students’ homework time.
C.To follow the plan against obesity. D.To teach traditional Chinese exercises.
26.What does the sentence “losing weight isn’t about being perfect” mean
A.People should never make mistakes. B.Small changes are enough to start with.
C.Only strict diets can help lose weight. D.Exercise is more important than diet.
27.What can we know from the text about the relation (关系) between sleep and weight
A.Longer sleep always causes weight loss.
B.Sleep has nothing to do with weight.
C.Enough sleep helps teens to keep a healthy weight.
