①Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable You
might have noticed many people choosing style over comfort and some even go to extremes (极端) to follow
fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
②Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets that are
not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy
way to live
③ Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels (鞋跟). They might think high heels make them look

taller. But these shoes can actually hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably, and it can increase risks of
falls. Some even wear tight (紧 的 ) clothes that influence blood circulation (循 环 ), making it hard to breathe.
Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health
④Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair colors. The material they
use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to
burn their hair. But using these tools too often or at very high temperatures can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is
it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money
⑤ So, let’s think about what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being Clothes or hairstyles don’
t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that
time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise regularly.
Remember, your worth is not decided by your look, but by who you are as a person. Being yourself comes the first.

Making good decisions is important for everyone. Here are some habits that can help us become better
decision-makers.
First of all, think about your mistakes. To make great decisions, it’s necessary to think about what went
wrong in the past. However, we should limit (限制) our time. Some people might think that 20 minutes would be a
better choice, but in fact, 10 minutes each day is enough to help you think about how you can do it better the next
day. Keep in mind that you needn’t spend too much time considering your past mistakes. Just learn from them and
move forward.
17 / 26
Secondly, know your abilities well. Did you ever think of finishing your homework in an hour, but you
found it took much longer This might be because you were overconfident about yourself. Good decision-makers
know what they can do and can’ t do. As a result, they can change their ways of thinking and acting.
In addition, take breaks from thinking. Though it’s important to think carefully about difficult choices, like
whether to change school, sometimes it’s best to take a break. If you center on a problem for a long time, you might
feel more worried. Studies show that letting your mind take a break can help you find clearer answers. So consider
sleeping on a problem or doing another activity to give your mind some time to rest.
1.How long should you think about your past mistakes each day
A.5 minutes. B.10 minutes. C.15 minutes. D.20 minutes.

4.Which title best fits the passage

Do you often compare yourself with other people Whether it’s the number of goals you’ve scored at
football or how many books you’ve read, it’s easy to compare yourself with someone else. It’s a natural behavior
that helps humans learn from each other, live happily together and achieve more. However, it’s not always helpful
and you can find yourself falling a comparison trap (对比陷阱).
Comparison can make us feel good and bad about ourselves. “Comparing up” means seeing someone is
19 / 26
better than you and using that to encourage yourself to aim higher and try harder. However, sometimes it can make
you feel rubbish about yourself and undermine your confidence. “Comparing down” is when you see someone who
seems like they’re not doing as well as you. This might make you feel you’re doing well, but it can also stop you
wanting to improve.
How do you escape (逃离) comparison trap Notice how people make you feel and spend time with friends
who celebrate your strengths (优势) rather than compare themselves to you. Find ones that make you laugh or show
you lovely places instead. Finally, pay attention to your own achievements and how you can improve. The best
person you can compete with is yourself.
Let’s make positive (积极的) comparisons. This means you value your own achievements and not someone
else’s. Celebrate progress instead of the final result. It doesn’t matter if someone is better or faster than you, it’s
important that how hard you try. Set some goals and pay attention to your progress. Instead of saying “I can’t do it”,
say “I can’t do it yet”.

C.We can follow the ways to escape comparison trap.
D.Friends can make you laugh and show you lovely places.
4.What is the key to making positive comparisons
A.Celebrating your progress. B.Valuing others’ achievements.

If you wake up one day and decide to build a house, how will you begin Get some tools and build it at once
Or think carefully and prepare everything first Of course, the second way is better. Why Because you make a
20 / 26
plan for your goal (目标)!
Many people have goals like getting better grades or finding a better job. But without a plan for reaching
those goals, only 8 percent of these people will finally be successful. ▲ First, it stops you spending time on
meaningless things. Also, it helps you know better what to do step by step. What’s more, if you make a good plan,
you’ll be surprised at how much you can reach. Last, by making a plan, you will know the problems you meet on
the way to success and try your best to solve them.
The importance of having a plan is now clear, but do you know how to make your own plan
Step 1: Put your goal down on a piece of paper. In this way, you will be more sure about it.
Step2: Cut your goal into small parts and make plans for them. So you will be clearer about what you can do
step by step.
Step 3: Read your plan every day. Believe it or not, a plan is no good if you never look at it.
Step 4: Tell a friend about your plan. You may need his or her help when you can’t follow it.
Remember: “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Once you make a plan for your goal and try your best to
follow it, you will hardly fail.

In small towns, people are used to saying hello to their neighbors in stores, on the streets and in front of their
21 / 26
homes. In today’s city life, people may feel uncomfortable talking to neighbors they do not know well in line at the
supermarket. But greeting your neighbors is actually good for you, especially if you say hello to six people,
according to a recent survey.
Saying hello to people increases well-being, but six is the magic number. The well-being score increases
from zero to six and then there are no further increases. These results are part of the Gallup National Health and
Well-Being Index which studies overall well-being and is calculated on a scale of (在……范围内) 0 to 100. The
survey was carried out from May 30th to June 6th, 2023 and was based on the answers from 4,556 Americans. It
covered social well-being, physical well-being, community well- being and more. People who said they didn’t say
hello to anyone in their neighborhood scored a 51.5. People who greeted six neighbors had a score of 64.1.
You might think that saying hello to neighbors is only about social well-being, but that actually isn’t the case.
In fact, regular (经常的) greetings also improve a person’s physical well-being and community well-being. That’s
because all of these are connected. You will be more likely to speak to people if you think your community is safe.
Your physical well-being can improve if you are getting out and walking around your neighborhood.
“We don’t require that you know the person well; just stop and talk to him or her,” said Dan Witters, the
survey’s director. “But the more people to whom you say hello, the greater the probability is that you’re actually
going to start a conversation with them.” While this is just a survey for now, saying hello on a regular basis is a
good way to improve your own well-being.

For most of us, walking is something we do without thinking at all. But for some disabled or aged people, it
can be a real challenge. It can also be difficult when a person needs to carry heavy things and walk for a long way.
Researchers at Harvard are trying to solve this problem with a soft robot suit worn over the legs. It uses
sensors (传感器) to watch how a person is walking. Then, it sends tiny electric impulses (脉冲) to the person’s leg
muscles to help them work when necessary.
It is not easy to understand, right Let’s start by looking at how humans walk. Walking is a process that
doesn’t require much thinking or energy. Our legs’ movement is like a swinging swing set. All our muscles need to
do is to provide tiny power to help that swinging along. That’s why humans can generally walk for a long time
without getting too tired.
25 / 26
Walking becomes a challenge when our muscles can’t provide energy to keep that movement happening.
This is where that robot suit comes in. It has many sensors all across the legs that are made to read how things are
going as the person is moving. This way, the robot can read in real time where the problems are. Then, it sends out
impulses to help muscles along in a way that is very similar to how our bodies work naturally.
Researchers are still working on the robot suit, although it takes time. They hope it can be as comfortable as
a pair of trousers and finally can take the place of things like metal leg braces (支架), walking sticks and walkers.
At that time, everyone, including the disabled or the aged, can walk without thinking again. What a cool idea!
1.What is the main purpose of the research at Harvard
A.To make a robot suit look like trousers.
B.To help people who have difficulty in walking.
C.To find out how humans walk.
2.How does the robot suit help people walk
A.By sending electric impulses to leg muscles.
B.By providing a lot of energy to legs.
C.By changing the way people walk.
3.The underlined word “swinging” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.moving back and forth regularly
B.stopping suddenly and then starting
C.moving quickly in one direction
4.Which of the following statements is TRUE
A.The electric impulses sent by the robot suit can directly make people’s leg muscles stronger.
B.People don’t need to move their legs when wearing the robot suit.
C.Those electric impulses to leg muscles help people walk freely again.
5.What’s the best title for the article
A.Modern Science Makes Life Better
B.A New Invention Is Solving the Walking Problem
C.The Technology Is Developing Fast

fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
②Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets that are
not good for their health. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy

t tell us anything about a person’s character.

Though it’s important to think carefully about difficult choices, like
18 / 31
whether to change school, sometimes it’s best to take a break. If you center on a problem for a long time, you might
feel more worried. Studies show that letting your mind take a break can help you find clearer answers. So consider

If you wake up one day and decide to build a house, how will you begin Get some tools and build it at once
Or think carefully and prepare everything first Of course, the second way is better. Why Because you make a
plan for your goal (目标)!

those goals, only 8 percent of these people will finally be successful. ▲ First, it stops you spending time on
meaningless things. Also, it helps you know better what to do step by step. What’s more, if you make a good plan,
you’ll be surprised at how much you can reach. Last, by making a plan, you will know the problems you meet on

In small towns, people are used to saying hello to their neighbors in stores, on the streets and in front of their
homes. In today’s city life, people may feel uncomfortable talking to neighbors they do not know well in line at the
24 / 31
supermarket.

It uses
29 / 31
sensors (传感器) to watch how a person is walking.
30 / 31
A.Modern Science Makes Life Better
B.A New Invention Is Solving the Walking Problem
C.The Technology Is Developing Fast
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.A 4.C 5.B
