一、阅读理解
This year, we celebrate 30 years since China started to build its Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS, 北斗卫星导航系统). It took its name from the Big Dipper stars, a group of seven bright stars in the sky.
In 1994, China began building the BDS, so it wouldn't have to use navigation systems from other countries. It's a lot safer this way. In 2020, the BDS was completed. This achievement made China the fourth to have its own navigation system after the US, Russia and the European Union.
The BDS does not just show where you are. It's the first to let you send messages where there is no phone signal (信号). It has also played an important role in disaster prevention and response (防灾救灾). It even helps farmers in China by providing information for planting, which makes farming smarter.
The BDS is more than a system. It shows China's ability in science and technology. Now, over 120 countries and areas are using it. Wherever you are, the BDS is there to help you find your way.

Nowadays, we have kinds of technologies to protect us from different disasters. We even know where and when some disasters, like the typhoon, the flood. While most of the new technologies are far away from us, some around us can help people in disasters.
The drone (无人机) is one of them. It can be used to send food, water when a natural disaster happens. Very often the buildings are too dangerous for rescue (救援) teams to get in. They can make the drone fly into the buildings to search for those who are still alive first. They are also becoming a useful tool for firefighters, helping them find and fight wildfires. In some faraway places in the world, drones are the fastest way to send medicine to people who are in great need of it.
Social media is also a useful tool when it comes to natural disasters. With its help, people can know about the natural disasters before they hit. And some social media platforms allow people to mark themselves as safe after disasters, so others can know their situations.
Social media is also a place for up-to-date news, so people can learn what is going on in the disaster areas. Besides, many social media platforms allow people to donate money to help people in disaster areas. The money will help them get back to their normal life as soon as possible. For example, live streaming (直播) helped raise a lot of money for Henan after the flood in 2021.
Although these technologies can help when there is a natural disaster, we still need to prepare necessary tools and learn important skills to protect ourselves.

In many countries, people are encouraged to buy electric cars. It is said that driving an electric car is good for the environment. But is that true The University of Minnesota recently studied emissions (排放物) from different cars. The scientists found that sometimes, electric cars are more harmful than petrol (汽油) cars.
Surprising Well, please pay attention to the word “sometimes”. Electric cars are supposed to be clean. The problem lies in the power that is used to charge (充电) them. If the power comes from wind or solar energy, electric cars will cause little pollution. However, if the power is produced from coal, they will be very harmful. According to the study, emissions from these cars kill about 3,000 people a year. However, pollution caused by petrol cars only leads to 880 deaths a year.
In fact, sales people are not lying when they say electric cars are clean. However, they are right only when the power used to charge their cars is also clean.
So how clean electric cars are depends on what their electricity comes from. In France, more than half of the power comes from nuclear (核) stations. Electric cars there should be as clean as they are marketed to be. In many developing countries, however, electricity mainly comes from coal. India, for example, depends on coal for 61 percent of its power. Only two percent of electricity comes from nuclear energy. In countries like India, electric cars are not clean at all.

二、写作题
Hello everyone. My name is Li Hua. I’d like to share my thoughts on the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence, or AI. First of all, I believe we shouldn’t worry too much about its progress. AI is designed to help us, not replace us.
There are many advantages of AI. For instance, it can make our learning more efficient. With AI, we can get personalized learning plans and instant feedback. Another great point is that AI improves our daily lives. It helps in tasks like home automation, making our homes smarter and safer.
As for me, I hope AI can continue to develop in ways that benefit everyone. I dream of a future where AI assists doctors in treating patients more effectively and aids farmers in growing crops sustainably.
In conclusion, AI holds great potential for a brighter future. Let’s embrace it with an open mind!
Smart Products in Our Life
As we all know, smart products change our life greatly. With the development of science and technology, we can see all kinds of smart products in our daily life. For example, smartphones can make work and study more efficient. And chatting robots can chat with people while cleaning robots can help with housework. What’s more, some smart lights and smart sound boxes can work by themselves if people give orders to them. They all bring great convenience and progress to our society.
However, with smart technology being widely used, many workers will lose their jobs. Also, some students depend on smart products too much that they will lose their abilities to do things by themselves.
All in all, just as every coin has its two sides, smart products have both advantages and shortcomings. I believe that if we use them correctly, it will bring us more convenient life in the future.
