Two things changed my life: my mother and a white plastic bike basket. I would be a different person if my mum hadn't turned the simple basket into a life lesson.
My mum handled most of the parenting in my childhood. Looking back, I don't know how she managed everything, especially the family budget. But she made it look easy. If my brother and I ever complained about not having what other kids did, we'd hear things like," I don't care what so-and-so got for their birthday. You're not getting a TV in your room or a fancy Sweet 16 Party." Instead, we earned our pocket money by doing chores around the house. We also had to take care of our belongings, and if something was lost, it would not be replaced
One summer day, my mum took me to the bike shop to fix a tire. That's when I saw it -a beautiful white plastic bike basket with colorful flowers. The basket winked at me and I knew had to have it. I begged my mum to buy it for me. I promised to do extra chores, anything, just to have it. She smiled and said gently, "If you save up, you could buy it yourself." I protested(反抗)afraid someone else would buy it first.
Then she said, "There might be another way." She bought the basket that day and hid it somewhere I couldn't find Each week, I saved up my pocket money and did extra chores washing the car, helping with dinner, running errands(跑腿)on my bike, which now looked empty without the basket Finally, after weeks of hard work, I had the full amount and got my dream basket.
Days later the unthinkable happened. A neighbourhood girl rode by on her shiny new bike with the exact same basket. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster.
And then came the lesson I've taken with me through my life. My mum knelt down, looked into my teary eyes, and said to me, "Honey, your basket is extra-special because you paid for it yourself. "

Skywells, or tian jing, used to play a key role in keeping people's homes cool in southern and eastern China. Could they do it again today
Skywells were designed to cool people's homes naturally before air-conditioning. When windblows above a skywell house, it can enter the indoor space through the opening. Because outdoor air is often cooler than indoor air, the incoming wind travels down the walls to the bottom and create airflows by replacing warmer indoor air, which rises and leaves through the opening.
Even though skywell buildings have existed in China for hundreds of years, in recent times they have often been forgotten by people who prefer modern facilities. Over the past two decades, however, they have been making a comeback. Yu Youhong. a craftsman, has spent more than 30 years bringing back skywell homes. He expects skywells to be more and more popular among
younger generations because of their ventilation(通风)and lighting functions, especially as sustainability(可持续)becomes more important for new buildings.
Architects are now looking towards the principles(原理)behind skywells while designing new buildings to save energy. One example is a research centre in Jinan, Shandong province. It 18-storey glass-walled tower block has a giant skywell in the middle. The elevators, toilets and meeting rooms are all situated around it, which helps improve the lighting and ventilation of the centre and reduces the use of energy.
Although ancient "green wisdom" like skywells continues to inspire today's architecture there are some challenges for bringing skywells into modern designs, according to Wang Zhengfeng, a researcher at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Because traditional skywells are highly dependent on their natural surroundings -for example, the amount of sunlight or rainfall-itis difficult to apply them as a universal solution, she explains.

33.Why does the writer mention the tower block in paragraph 4
A. To introduce how the building was designed. B. To explain why architects find skywells inspiring
C. To show skywells can be used in today's buildings D. To prove modern skywells differ from ancient ones
34.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Skywells will be widely used in the future. B. Osing skywells needs careful consideration
C. City environment is not suitable for skywells D. Skywells can't help solve environmental problems
35.What would be the best title for the passage
A. Skywells: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times B. Skywells: The Secrets of Chinese Architecture
C. Skywells: A Green Structure Needs Improving D. Skywells: A Traditional Design to Be Protected

参考范文:
Dear Jason,
I'm so glad to hear that you're interested in traditional Chinese handicrafts, so I'd like to introduce lanterns.
Lanterns symbolize a bright future and a happy life in Chinese culture. They are commonly used during the Lantern Festival, when people hang them everywhere to create a festive atmosphere. Making a lantern isn't too difficult. First, form a frame with bamboo strips, which determines the shape of the lantern. Then, cover the frame with paper or silk. After that, it's time to decorate it. You can paint beautiful patterns like flowers or animals on it. Finally, fix a candle inside. When the candle is lit, the warm light makes the lantern look charming.
Hope you'll have a chance to make one by yourself someday! If you want to know more about Chinese culture, please write to me.
Yours,
Li Hua
