Because people don't see them in the real world.
“As happy as a clam” means very happy.非常开心，满足，舒适。这个短语的完整形式是“as happy as a clam at high water”，意思是在涨潮时，蛤蜊可以自由地在沙滩上活动，因此非常快乐和满足。
“As dead as a dodo” means completely dead.形容某事物已经完全消失或绝迹，无法复活。
