An unusual experiment(实验) in Botswana shows that painting eyes on the butts(臀部) of cows
may help protect them from large predators(食肉动物) like lions. Protecting cows could also in turn
protect lions from angry farmers.
In the Okavango Delta, there are many small farms, with between6 and 100 cows. Lions are the
biggest danger to cows in the area. At night, farmers normally keep their cows in closed areas. But
in the daytime, when many predators are the most active, the cows are allowed out to eat grass. One
serious danger to lions comes from farmers, who often kill them after losing the farm animals
because of their attacks(攻击).
A team of researchers led by Dr. Neil Jordan from University of New South Wales wondered if
painting pictures of eyes on the cows' butts might protect them. Working with over 2,000 cows on 14
different farms in the Okavango area, the scientists tested this in a four-year study. They painted
large eyes on the butts of one group of cows. The second group got simple Xs. The final group got
nothing.
The fake(假的) eyes worked well. Of the 683 cows with eyes painted on them, none were killed
in the period. Fifteen of the 835cows with nothing on their backsides were killed. Surprisingly, even
Xs seemed to give the cows protection— only 4 of the 543 cows with Xs were killed.
But the researchers weren't sure if these would work so well when all of the cows had them.
Also, over time, predators might learn to ignore(忽视)them.Still, for now,it seems like a cheap and
simple way to protect cows in the area.
( )61.Paragraph 2 mainly focuses on____.

B.Cows' eyes could scare lions away.
C.Only 19 cows of all were attacked.
D.Xs could protect cows from lions too.
( )64.What's the author's attitude(态度)towards the way of protecting cows
A.Worried. B.Agreeable. C.Uncertain. D.Uninterested.
