letter”与“put into envelope”的动作匹配。
good to be included”体现被接纳的情感。
Although it rained, they
kept running”。
Last summer, I joined a
标记关键词:圈画情感词(happy/disappointed)、动作词(run/join)及逻辑词(but/so)。
连词匹配:因果用 because/so,转折用 but/however,递进用 moreover。
逻辑关系(30%):转折(but/however)、因果(because/so)、递进(moreover)。
固定搭配(20%):动词短语(look after)、介词短语(in surprise)。
action)。
首 尾 段 速 成 法 : 背 诵 万 能 开 头 ( “With the development of society...”) 和 结 尾 ( “In
conclusion...”)。

At the age of eight, I attended my first Kathak (卡塔克舞) class because I didn’t want to
feel left out by my friends. My mother was very 1 of my decision. “Give it a try. You
might just love it,” she said.
However, four years later, I was sure I 2 Kathak. Maybe it was because of the
online classes during the flu seasons, which felt like a waste of time. Maybe it was the seeds of
self-doubt that had taken root. Or maybe it was just the one-step chakkar (脚尖旋转), which
seemed as frightening and 3 as climbing Mount Everest. I couldn’t be certain what
caused this, but I was struggling to understand why I was still dancing.
Seeing my frustration, my mother tried to help by seeking advice from my friends. For a
teenager, that was humiliating (屈辱的), and I held her responsible for my 4 . I spent
more time arguing with my mother than practicing Kathak.
Looking back, I realize that if my mother hadn’t insisted, I would have quit long ago, and
my life would probably be 5 . However, fate had its own plan. After I reached the ninth
grade, I had bigger things to worry about, like my sleep schedule and the science project. Kathak
took a backseat on my list of priorities (优先). Too busy to hate anything or anyone, I stopped
wasting my breath arguing with my mother. I just got by with each dancing class, and, if I was
honest, I kind of appreciated those two hours when there was nothing else on my mind.
Months went by, I didn’t realize how much I had 6 , but suddenly I could do ten
one-step chakkars. I started to look forward to dancing. As I danced, the sound of each drumbeat
resonated (共振) deeply within me. My body moved naturally to the melody, and the jingle of
bells chased away my 7 thoughts. I felt peaceful. I found myself enjoying every second
of it.
Reflecting on the journey that has brought me this far, I realize that passion isn’t always
love at first sight. Sometimes, it grows slowly. Thanks to my mother’s support and belief in me, I
have discovered my true 8 . I was just too headstrong to see it at first. For me, Kathak is
not just about dancing; it’s about self-discovery and the unbreakable bond between a mother and
her child.

根据下文“suddenly I could

letter”与“put into envelope”的动作匹配。
good to be included”体现被接纳的情感。
Although it rained, they
kept running”。
Last summer, I joined a
标记关键词:圈画情感词(happy/disappointed)、动作词(run/join)及逻辑词(but/so)。
连词匹配:因果用 because/so,转折用 but/however,递进用 moreover。
逻辑关系(30%):转折(but/however)、因果(because/so)、递进(moreover)。
固定搭配(20%):动词短语(look after)、介词短语(in surprise)。
action)。
首 尾 段 速 成 法 : 背 诵 万 能 开 头 ( “With the development of society...”) 和 结 尾 ( “In
conclusion...”)。

Growing up in a military (军队) family, I moved a lot. But when my dad retired (退休)
from the Marines, I had to study in a civilian (平民的) school with twelve-year-olds who shared
no similar life experience with me.
I was a stranger in a strange land. Everyone in my class had grown up together, and they
had no room to spare for a newcomer. Everything was hard for the first few weeks of school. I had
no friends, no activities, and no 1 of a bright future. To deal with it all, I began 2
in my diary every day. I wrote as if my life depended on it, as if the very next breath I took could
not happen unless I wrote down words.
One day, my teacher, Mrs. Bush, came to me and asked why I always sat there writing
instead of playing with others. I told her I 3 writing to playing. She smiled at me and
walked away. About three weeks later, Mrs. Bush gave us a writing task. I was 4 that I
could now take part in something I knew I was good at.
That night I worked and worked on the essay. I wrote with great passion. It was my one
chance to feel important and accepted by the class.
A few days after we handed in our tasks, Mrs. Bush called me up to the 5 of the
classroom. I stood before thirty pairs of eyes looking at me, and I got 6 was I in
trouble Did I do something wrong
Then Mrs. Bush told the class how much she appreciated (欣赏) all the work that went into
the essay and everyone had done a great job, But, she said, one student stood out as an excellent
writer, one with imagination, creativity, and word mastery. That student was me!
The class clapped politely and Mrs. Bush handed me my paper, with the following
remarks-on-it: “Malinda, you are an excellent writer. Please keep on writing and share your
7 of writing with the world.”
Mrs. Bush helped me feel a sense of belonging and a way to survive a transition (过渡) in
life. She helped me gain 8 in myself that stayed with me beyond sixth grade.

I grew up poor-living with my wonderful mother. We had little money but plenty of love
and attention. I was happy and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he
could still afford a dream.
My dream was to be a sportsman. By the time I was sixteen, I had started playing baseball.
I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything that moved on the football field. I
was also 1 : my high-school coach was John, who not only believed in me, but also taught
me to believe in myself. He taught me the difference between having a dream and remaining (保
持) true to the dream. One unusual experience with Coach John changed my life forever.
A friend recommended (推荐) me for a summer job. This meant a chance for money in my
pocket-money for a new bike and new clothes, and the 2 of savings for a house for my
mother. Then I realized I would have to 3 up summer baseball to deal with the work
schedule, and that meant I would have to tell Coach John I wouldn’t be playing.
When I told Coach John, he was as 4 as I expected him to be. “You have your
whole life to work,” he said. “You don’t have too many playing days in your life. You can’t 5
to waste them.” I stood before him with my head 6 , trying to think of the words that would
explain to him why my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was
worth facing his disappointment in me.
“How much are you going to make at this job, son ” he asked.
“3.5 dollars an hour,” I replied.
“Well,” he asked, “is $3.5 an hour the 7 of a dream ”
That simple question made me understand the difference between 8 something
right now and having a goal. I decided myself to play sports that summer and within the year I was
hired (雇佣) by the Pittsburgh Pirates to play baseball, and was offered a $20,000 contract (合同).
In 2000, I bought my mother the house of my dream!

I was lucky enough to test into the best high school in the city. But then came my 1 :
Am I good enough It was a question that 2 me through my first month, even as I
began to get used to the early morning wake-ups and moving between buildings for class.
I knew I had to work hard to ground myself. My earliest strategy involved keeping quiet
and trying to 3 my new classmates. Who were these kids anyway How did they learn
in school All I knew was that they were the smartest kids in the city, obviously. But wasn’t I as
well Hadn’t I landed here because I was smart like them The truth is that I didn’t know. This
4 was like a deadly cell (细胞) that threatened to divide and divide again, unless I could find
some ways to stop it.
Fortunately, my first round of grades turned out to be 5 , and so did my second.
Over the course of my first two years, I began to build the same kind of 6 I’d had at my
junior high school. With each little achievement, my doubt 7 took leave.
I find subjects involving writing enjoyable but I think maths is difficult. I had classmates
who were always a step or two ahead of me, whose achievements seemed effortless, but I tried not
to let that get to me. I was beginning to understand that if I put in extra hours of studying, I could
often close the gap. I wasn’t a straight-A student, but I was always 8 and I made
progress.

For me, Kathak is
not just about dancing; it’s about self-discovery and the unbreakable bond between a mother and
her child.
