When I was 21, I moved to Sydney, working as a waiter at a small local restaurant. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, and this uncertainty left me feeling lost. This big city was a soulless place and everyone was just out for themselves. The only thing that truly gave me comfort was playing the flute (笛子).
My connection with the flute began when I was 16. Determined to buy one, I worked at a supermarket earning just $2. 35 an hour. When I finally bought it, it became my most valued possession. Every day I would come home and play it. The tunes helped me process my emotions.
One day I was working at the restaurant when someone asked me what I was doing that night. I said, “I’m going to be playing the flute at…” and then I suddenly realised that I hadn’t picked up my flute when I got off the train that day. I immediately and completely freaked out (六神无主).
I raced to the train station to ask if it had been handed in. It hadn’t, but I gave them my number anyway in case it turned up. I just thought, well, it’s gone — stupidly, I didn’t even have my name written on the case. I spent the following week in total guilt, feeling sorry for myself.
Then, one day, I got a call from someone at CityRail saying they had my flute. I went into the lost property place at Central and there it was, among all the lost bags and umbrellas. As I went to grab it, the guards there asked for my ID.I told them I had lost my ID, and that it would take several weeks to get a new one. And they said, well, sorry — you’ve got to have your ID to get your flute back.

When Mr. Lee announced our project, I wasn't happy. “ Another group project ” I whispered to my best friend Lucy. Last time, I ended up doing all the work myself. I preferred working alone, and my medals proved I could handle things by myself. But this project about designing a class logo taught me something bigger.
My group had two very different classmates. Alex was the class artist who never finished homework on time. His desk was always covered in paint stains, and he often drew during class. During meetings, he sketched (绘制) random designs instead of taking notes. Sarah, on the other hand, was well organized. She carried a color-coded planner and sharpened her pencils until they looked like soldiers. “Emily, write the design concept! Alex, create the logo! Do it now!” she would say. I felt trapped between them. Alex kept missing deadlines, and Sarah shouted every time he forgot his work. Once, she threw an eraser so hard that it left a mark on the whiteboard. I stayed silent, watching them argue. My notebook was filled with angry doodles(涂鸦) instead of design ideas.
Everything exploded last Thursday. We were in the library when Sarah slammed(猛击)her hand on the table. Her water bottle tipped over, spilling on Alex's logo sketches. “Alex! Your logo draft was due three days ago!” Her voice echoed so loud that the librarian came to calm us. Alex said that's because of soccer practice. “But coach made us stay late,” he added, wiping water off his notebook. Sarah's face turned red. I finally spoke: “I feel scared we’ll fail if we keep fighting.” The words surprised even me. The room went quiet.

Mary watched as students crowded around a notice announcing that the school’s radio station was looking for a second host. Butterflies filled her stomach—she had always dreamed of becoming a campus host.
The radio station was a big deal: it aired music, school announcements, and entertaining shows that everyone tuned into during lunch breaks. Olivia, the current host, was confident and talented, earning widespread admiration. In contrast, Mary was naturally shy, and speaking in front of others made her nervous. Still, she decided to give it a try, even as a classmate remarked, “You You can barely read aloud in class without stumbling (磕磕绊绊)!”
Not discouraged, Mary practiced every evening by reading aloud from her textbooks. At first, she stumbled over her words, but gradually her reading grew smoother and her pronunciation clearer. She even borrowed books on public speaking from the library to learn vocal techniques. While her classmates chatted and laughed, she quietly absorbed every detail, determined to build her skills.
The day of the interview finally arrived. Holding the cold microphone, Mary felt her hands grow sweaty. She read the required texts perfectly—rehearsed (排练) thousands of times—but she struggled during the improvised (即兴的) part.
“Sir, I’ve been practicing for months, and I’m willing to work hard to learn,” she begged.
Mr. Carter smiled gently and said, “I appreciate your determination and your excellent reading. But during a live broadcast, anything can happen, and you need to draw your audience’s attention with genuine emotion rather than simply reading from a script.”
That day, no one passed the interview; everyone left except Mary. Lost in thought, she realized, “The problem isn’t with my pronunciation or reading…” It suddenly struck her that she could join the radio team in a supporting role to learn what it truly takes to be a host.

I was incredibly proud of my school, the Maplewood Elementary. It connected me to my roots, as my father and grandfather had all graduated from here.
So, when our teacher Mr. Dow announced a group project to create a brochure (小册子) about our school for its 100th anniversary, I was thrilled. The best three brochures would be displayed in the school library, which was a chance to show the new students how wonderful our school was.
I was paired with two classmates: Jake. who loved photography, and Lily who had a gift for writing. Working with others could be fun, right But my enthusiasm quickly faded.
Our first meeting was a disaster. When we discussed which part of the school we should focus on, Jake kept talking about cameras and photos. I turned to Lily, hoping for some support. But she simply shrugged and said, “I’m not really into this. It sounds boring.” Jake nodded in agreement. The project seemed to be harder than I thought.
At our next meeting, I tried to lead the conversation back to the project. I shared some interesting facts I had researched about the school. However, neither of them seemed interested. Jake had promised to gather materials from the library, but instead he showed us photos taken on the weekend. Lily hadn’t started her part of the research either, claiming she had been too busy. I felt like I was the only one who cared.
Back home, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I stayed up late that night, trying to create the brochure by myself. But no matter how hard I tried, the result was far from satisfactory. I was exhausted and disheartened. My mom noticed I was upset. “You can’t do this alone,” she gently reminded me. “Jake and Lily have talents that can make this project shine. You just need to find a way to get them involved.”

Ethan loved flying kites. Every weekend, he would head to the open field near his house with his favorite red kite. The bright red fabric with its long and flowing tail danced in the sky, and Ethan loved watching it soar higher and higher. It was his favorite activity, and he had gotten really good at controlling the kite, making it loop and dive through the air. One breezy Saturday afternoon, the weather seemed perfect for kite flying. The sky was clear, and the wind was steady — just strong enough to lift his kite high into the air. Ethan couldn’t wait to get started.
When he arrived at the field, Ethan quickly unwrapped the string and let his kite rise into the sky. It floated up effortlessly, climbing higher and higher with each pull of the string. Ethan ran across the field, guiding his kite as it danced in the wind. He felt free and happy as he watched it twist and turn, almost touching the clouds. But then, something unexpected happened. The wind picked up suddenly, becoming much stronger than before.
Before Ethan could react, a powerful gust pulled the string from his hands. His heart sank as he watched helplessly as his beloved kite drifted away, pulled farther and farther by the wind. The kite flew over the trees and disappeared from sight. Ethan rushed after it, his heart racing, but no matter how fast he ran, the kite was gone. Out of breath, he stopped near the edge of the field and looked around, but there was no sign of it.
Feeling disappointed, Ethan began searching the area near the trees, hoping his kite had gotten stuck somewhere nearby. He looked under bushes and in tall grass, but the kite was nowhere to be found. The sun began to set, casting long shadows across the field. Ethan’s excitement had completely faded, replaced by a sinking feeling of loss. “Maybe I’ll never see it again,” he thought sadly.

Schatz burst into the house, his cheeks burning red. He looked extremely worn out and unsteady on his feet. “Dad, I think I need to lie down as I’m running a fever,” he whispered weakly, before collapsing onto the sofa. His father, who was in the living room, quickly came over. After touching the boy’s forehead gently, he immediately felt how hot it was and called the doctor. When the doctor came, he took Schatz’s temperature.
“What was it ” Schatz’ father asked worriedly.
“One hundred and two.” The doctor responded calmly, leaving three different medicines in different capsules with instructions for giving them.
“Just a mild flu.” The father comforted Schatz in a soft voice. He then handed Schatz the capsules he got from the doctor. “These will make you feel better soon.” The father continued. But the boy’s eyes stayed wide with terror. Instead of taking the medicine right away, he stared at the wall blankly, his breath coming in short with quick gasps (喘气) as if he was in great fear.
At noon, when the room was filled with the warm sunlight, Schatz, who had been quiet for a while, suddenly asked in a shaking voice. “What time will I die ” His father froze in shock and replied firmly. “Don’t be silly! It’s just a fever!” However, the boy seemed not to hear him. “I know I will die. At school in France the boys told me you can’t live with more than forty four degrees.” He started to whisper some indistinct French phrases from his textbook, looking more and more desperate.
The father was puzzled at first, but then suddenly realized: in France where Schatz studied, temperatures were measured in Celsius. The poor boy, with his limited knowledge, thought his102°F which actually meant 39°C, was a deadly temperature! Schatz’ s father felt so sorry for his son’s misunderstanding and the fear that had been terrifying him all this time.

Located in the heart of our community, there was a pond that had long been a source of joy and peace. In the past, its clear waters sparkled (闪耀) like diamonds under the sun, and the gentle rustling (沙沙声) of the leaves along the banks created a pleasant tune. Colorful fish and frogs made it their home, and kids in the neighborhood would spend hours by the water, observing the wonders of nature.
However, over time, the pond became a victim of neglect and littering. Empty plastic bottles, fast-food wrappers (包装袋), and even old bicycles were carelessly thrown into the water. The once-clear waters turned dark, and a strange smell began to hang over the area, driving away the wildlife.
One sunny afternoon, I took a walk around the pond and was shocked by its sorry state. Determined to do something about it, I took out my phone and started taking pictures from every angle. Each image recorded the extent of the pollution, serving as a reminder of the urgent need for action.
After getting home, I sat down and crafted a detailed plan. I estimated that we would need at least twenty volunteers to cover all areas of the pond. I made a list of necessary tools, such as long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins. Then, I spent hours designing posters with pictures of the polluted pond and the words “Let’s Bring Back Our Shining Pond.”
I first shared my plan with my closest friends. We met at a nearby playground, and as I showed them the pictures, they were horrified. “I can’t believe it’s become like this,” shouted Jack. “We used to have so much fun here,” added Emily, her voice filled with sadness. I then presented my plan, and without hesitation, they all agreed to help.

On Christmas morning, the freezing wind blew into my small apartment. “Another lonely Christmas,” I whispered, holding my last dollar, with my stomach empty.
Earlier that year, I had to leave school because my parents’ financial situation had taken a turn for the worse, and they couldn't afford to support my education any longer. Now, with no job and no friends in this new city, I touched the holes in my old green coat-a reminder of happier times when I was carefree on campus.
I put on the coat, its torn shoulder blowing in the wind, and stepped outside. In the park, I sat on a cold bench. "Please, help me," I cried into my hands. The snow felt like sharp pins on my face.
I left the park and walked down the street full of holiday lights. Rain and snow soaked (使湿透) my coat when I passed a coffee shop. Inside, people in nice dresses laughed over hot drinks. I pressed my hand against the window, leaving a foggy mark. I counted my last dollar. Tea cost more. Sadly, I turned back.
As I heard a bell ringing, I noticed a charitable organization volunteer standing next to a red donation bucket. This organization was raising funds to help those in need. My hand trembled as I held my last dollar. I thought to myself, "You can still work and earn more money. They need this dollar more than you do." Finally, I placed it into the bucket.
That afternoon, I opened my bank letter. “$1,000 !” I shouted. My hands shook as I went to the bank to check. “We found a deposit (存款) that was added earlier,” the manager said, looking at my wet clothes. “But I didn't have any savings,” I responded. “It’s from a charitable organization, Miss,” he said kindly. As I walked back home, I couldn't help but think this might be a sign that things were about to get better and that I needed to find a way to give back.

It was June, the last day of school. My class of first-graders was feverishly anticipating their summer vacation. To add a joyful flavor, I had some balloons brought in, but for me, this holiday was bittersweet. I’d just moved to this city and couldn’t afford to fly back to accompany Dad. He was desperately missing me, for it was his first summer without me.
When switching off the light on my way out, I noticed the balloons near the window. Unsure what to do with them, I grabbed the thirteen strings and stuffed them into the backseat of my car. Their rainbow of colors lifted my spirits and gratefully, I didn’t feel so alone.
As the city was still foreign to me, I decided to go for a drive and soon found myself winding down a stretch of road where the trees overhead covered each other. The branches reminded me of two friends stretching out to greet each other. Before long, a retirement home appeared. It was a place with a feeling of forgottenness and I spotted a man sitting alone in the shade outside.
I felt a sudden urge to pull in. But the balloons in my backseat blocked my view-then I knew what to do with them. Opening the door and grabbing one of the strings, I waved to the man, and he smiled. His name was Daniel and he was about Dad’s age. When I handed him the balloon, he grinned (咧嘴笑),“Thanks. It gives a little color to my life.” While tying it to his chair, he looked happier than when I arrived. So I smiled, “You’re welcome, Daniel. Perhaps I’ll see you again sometime.”
Unexpectedly, he replied, “Perhaps, but probably not. Visitors are always welcome, but rarely come.” His words forced me to slide over an old chair next to his. Then we began chatting about our lives and his voice always reminded me of Dad. I’d thought it would be boring talking with a stranger. But it wasn’t; it was enlightening — I had been feeling lonely, and so had Daniel, and so had the residents in the retirement home.

In a bustling (喧嚣的) office building that scraped the sky, Alan, the diligent door keeper, carried out his daily tasks, maintaining cleanliness. His hands grasped the day’s trash, leading him towards the trash bin. On the ordinary day, Alan’s path crossed with the gaze of fate.
Peering over the edge of a trash bin was a young boy, searching for food among the discarded remains of the office workers. Alan’s heart seized at the sight of the child’s desperate searching. Instead of chasing the boy away, he extended an offering—a sandwich that he had hidden away for his break. Day by day, Alan shared his lunch, becoming a quiet source of nourishment in the boy’s otherwise uncertain life.
The boy, named Christopher, came to expect Alan’s presence, finding comfort in his kindness. Their exchanges transcended (超越) the exchange of food; they formed an unspoken bond, creating a safe place of companionship in the solitude of the alley. However, Alan’s heart ached for the child’s situation, longing to know more about his past and the struggles he faced.
Alan’s curiosity gradually gave way to gentle inquiries, and Christopher, feeling a sense of trust, began to open up. The boy revealed the disturbing truth—he had escaped an abusive home and fled to the streets. His heartbreaking journey had left him homeless and distrustful of most adults and potential refuge. Christopher’s reluctance to give away further details only deepened Alan’s determination to help.

I put on the gloves and pulled the pan of blackened, star-shaped cookies from the oven. Well, that seemed to match my holiday mood. Everything was overwhelming — a tight budget, a busy schedule and a house that seemed to be always in a mess. And the shopping list! I wanted to do something special, but I had no idea what to get my mom for Christmas.
Recently Mom had moved to Canada. With work, family schedules and limited time, I didn’t get to visit her much. So I did my best to keep in touch with her on the phone.
Over the next few days, I ran around shopping, helping with kids’ school programs, volunteering at a nursing home and making sure everything got done. I didn’t take time to stop and listen to the cheerful music in the stores or to appreciate the beautiful snowflakes outside my kitchen window. Instead, I worried about my gift list. I’d already shopped for my husband and the kids, but I still needed to get something for Mom.
For Mom, settling into a new home hadn’t been easy. She had made a new friend named Darlene and a few others, but she still missed her old friends. She especially missed having a cat. But Mom wouldn’t do anything special for herself. I wondered whether I could get Mom a cat for Christmas. But it seemed that I couldn’t order one online.
Anyway, the idea lurked (潜藏) in the back of my mind.
One day, while I was chatting with Mom on the phone, she mentioned that she was going to a party with Darlene. She went on to tell me about the Christmas party and something called Secret Sisters. They drew names, and would exchange secret gifts at the party.
Secrets Gifts A smile spread across my face. Could this be my way to get Mom a special surprise I quickly ended the chat so that I could get to work on my new idea.

As the student council president, I’ve always been the one who keeps our group together. But nothing tested our bond like the city-wide science fair. Our goal was to build a solar-powered robot that could go through a maze (迷宫) by itself. It was a big challenge, but with Benny’s strength, Rosie’s tech skills, Rascal’s brave ideas, and my planning ability, we were ready to try our best.
One afternoon, we met in the science lab to see how far we had come. Despite weeks of hard work, a lot of problems remained. The biggest one was whether our robot could successfully go through a maze.
“We’ve come a long way,” I said, “but we can’t relax now. We need to work harder, help each other, and stay focused.” With strong determination, we focused on the robot’s navigation (导航) system. It was our weak point, but it was also the key to winning.
During one of our test runs, the robot managed to finish the maze on its own. We cheered, but Rascal quickly raised a question: “What if something goes wrong during the real competition ” His words made us realize that success in one test wasn’t enough. So we sat down and talked about every possible problem that could happen. I knew it was my job to keep everyone encouraged and on task. Benny was calm and careful with tools, Rosie was quick with finding coding bugs (编码错误), and Rascal was full of creative ideas. Talking things through like this gave us greater confidence in our teamwork.
As the city-wide science fair got closer, everyone in school was getting ready. For our group, although we had passed the robot test, we were still worried about its navigation system. We felt a lot of pressure, but we were also very determined. No matter what happened, we were ready to face it together.

A Life-Saving Hero
My wife’s job took her out of town a lot and I needed some company. So one day, I went to the local animal-rescue center. The little cocker spaniel (可卡猎犬) trembling in a cage caught my eye right away. She had scared eyes and I could tell she longed to be picked up and hugged. I gently petted her soft fur, and to my surprise, she stopped shaking. That was that. I filled out the paperwork and took my new dog — Honey home.
I’d had her only a couple of weeks, but Honey and I quickly became close friends. She followed me like a shadow from the very first day. She loved sitting on my lap. We often went to the backyard, where I picked up a ball and threw it. I sat down to watch Honey race after the ball. We had great fun together.
That October morning last year I decided to take Honey with me while I ran some errands (差事). She jumped in and settled down on the passenger seat. I got behind the wheel and started the car. We lived in a remote area up in the hills outside San Rafael, surrounded by tall redwoods. We had to drive up the mountain at a low speed to get to our driveway, which was barely wide enough for one car and ended at a steep cliff.
I turned around and backed up slowly. Just then, a flash of sunlight blinded me. I put my hand up to protect my eyes. Suddenly, the car slipped in the soft soil and rolled down the valley. I heard a horrible crash. A giant branch plunged (扎进) through the roof and hit my leg. We landed upside down. I was stuck. I looked over to find Honey. She was still in the passenger seat. She seemed scared but was not hurt.

Publishers are rewriting classics
Recent arguments have arisen as British publishers changed Roald Dahl’s children’s books and Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels to remove language seen as offensive (犯忌的) today. Days after Puffin Books faced criticism for editing Dahl’s works, reports showed Fleming’s team also made careful checks before reissuing Bond books. Both authors’ works included problematic terms —Dahl’s books had unfair comments on race, gender, and mental health, while Fleming’s stories used old-fashioned descriptions of people of color.
Puffin Books worked with the Roald Dahl Story Company (RDSC) and a diversity group to update Dahl’s stories. Many changes were made, such as rewriting a line in James and the Giant Peach from “fried alive and eaten by a Mexican” to remove hurtful words. Mentions of a writer linked to historical unfairness, Rudyard Kipling, were replaced with Jane Austen. RDSC said these edits help Dahl’s stories “be enjoyed by all children today.”
Some critics, like Suzanne Nossel, have argued that Dahl’s work should stand as it is, with new introductions to prepare readers with context. She believed that the “problem” with rewrites “is that there is no limiting principle.” And the author, Salman Rushdie said: “Roald Dahl was not perfect but this is absurd censorship (荒谬的审查制度).” Despite the strong negative responses, Penguin Random House announced on Feb. 24 that it would continue to publish “classic” versions of Dahl’s books alongside the revised versions.
Yet Karen, a professor of children’s literature, says there is a precedent (历史参照案例) for rewriting texts and a reason publishers go to the trouble. She says they have three choices: stop publishing the work and lose money, continue publishing the original texts amid controversy, or tailor the texts to today’s audience. Karen says the third is the “least problematic option” but that an even better approach is discovering new and exciting authors. “The books are out there,” she says, “people just need to look for them.”

Watch out for blue light!
How many digital devices do you use throughout the day If you’re like most people, you probably spend hours on your computer, cellphone or tablet. These devices are convenient and entertaining, but they all give off blue light. The question is: Should you be concerned
According to WebMD, there is no current proof that regular exposure to blue light leads to long-term damage to your eyes. Yet several other studies seem to demonstrate a connection between blue light and eye damage. Due to these different opinions, it is essential that people study more to determine if blue light is bad for one’s health.
Sunlight contains different colors of light, each with different wavelengths and energy levels. Blue wavelengths are good for people during daylight hours because they can boost one’s attention, reaction times and mood. But the concern is that blue’s wavelength is very close to that of ultraviolet (UV) (紫外线的) light.
Research has long shown that ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause eye damage. Some studies suggest a troublesome connection between eye tissue damage and blue-light wavelengths ranging between 415 and 455 nanometers (纳米). Most digital devices have wavelengths that measure between 400 and 490 nanometers so that many think that this fact, alone, establishes a cause for concern.
Blue light is also believed to affect your sleep cycle. It helps to manage your wake-and-sleep patterns by providing energy keeping you awake during the day. Nevertheless, the same energy becomes an issue at night as it misleads your body into believing it’s still daytime, leaving you incapable of attaining a restful night’s sleep.
To lessen the potential risks, several practical strategies can be employed. Simple actions like reducing the screen brightness and using blue-light-blocking applications can effectively decrease your exposure to blue light. However, the most effective approach is to avoid using digital devices for a few hours before going to bed.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
《【高考真题汇编】热点压轴题专项训练:书面表达-2025年高考英语》参考答案
1.范文
Feeling quite desperate, I said, “What if I play you a tune ” The guards exchanged glances before nodding. With trembling hands, I lifted the familiar flute to my lips. The melody that flowed out was the first song I’d ever learned — a simple folk tune my grandmother taught me. As the notes danced through the cluttered lost-and-found room, the guards’ stern expressions softened. A passing janitor paused to listen, and even the ticking clock seemed to slow its rhythm. The flute’s voice carried memories of teenage summers spent practicing in my attic, of lonely nights in Sydney soothed by its song. My eyes stayed fixed on the scratched case, as if the music itself could prove our unbreakable bond.
I finished my playing. The silence that followed was broken by the oldest guard clearing his throat. “That’s enough proof for me,” he said, handing over the case. Clutching my flute, I walked into the bustling station where sunlight streamed through the glass ceiling. For the first time, the hurried footsteps around me sounded less like indifference and more like life’s vibrant rhythm. That night, as I played by my window, a neighbor waved from across the street. Maybe this concrete jungle had soul after all — it just needed a little music to wake it up.

2.Then something amazing happened. Sarah took a deep breath and broke the ice first. She apologized for losing her temper and explained she just wanted the logo to be perfect. “I shouldn’t have yelled.” Her voice shook a little. Hearing this, Alex looked at his shoes. “I’ m sorry for delaying. I’ll stay up late tonight to finish the logo draft. I really want this to work.” For the first time, we were actually listening to each other and putting ourselves in other people's shoes instead of arguing or blaming. We decided to change.
Throughout the following week, we did make our joint efforts. Alex arrived early each day. His desk was tidy as he perfected the logo. Sarah coordinated smoothly. I contributed by listing themes that reflected our class spirit. After numerous revisions, we finally finished our work. As sunlight passed through the windows, though tired, we were filled with a sense of achievement. Mr. Lee praised our teamwork, and our group project received an A+, a perfect teamwork! This experience has taught me the value of patience, communication, and appreciating others’ strengths. Together, our efforts do end in miracles.

She asked Mr. Carter for permission and began by taking on small tasks. Organizing scripts, preparing playlists and setting the facilities, Mary threw herself into these tasks, treating each one as an opportunity to learn. During breaks, she observed Olivia’s hosting techniques—how she handled technical issues and managed to make the audience feel excited and engaged. When no one was around, she would practice, pretending to host her own show, announcing imaginary school news, reciting poems, or introducing songs, just like Olivia did. As days turned into weeks, her notebook was filled with her thoughts and reflections. Mary felt more confident, and she hoped she could finally share her voice with the school.
Then one day, Mr. Carter rushed in with unexpected news: Olivia had suddenly fallen ill. Mary stood up, her palms sweating but voice steady. “I’ve learned a lot these days. May I try ” The studio fell silent. Mr. Carter studied her determined face and nodded. Holding the cold mic tightly, Mary’s clear voice flowed through speakers. She perfectly reported the news that day, played up beat music, and even shared fun stories about their school’s history. Students paused their sandwiches, recognizing the new voice. By broadcast end, the radio office buzzed with approval. Mr. Carter smiled, “Seems we already have our second host.” Mary was still holding the mic, which wasn’t cold anymore, but held the warmth of every host who’d ever panicked, triumphed, and grown here—including her.

4.With only three days left, I knew I had to act. After brainstorming some ideas, I invited Jake and Lily to my house. Opening my grandfather’s diary, I pointed at the faded photo of his class. “Your camera can save the moment for the future,” I told Jake, whose eyes suddenly sparkled. Then I suggested he photograph every corner of the school like “time travelers”. Meanwhile, Lily was engaged in my grandfather’s love letter, eager to bring hidden stories back to life. I was busy organizing layouts, combining historical accuracy with creativity. The clock was ticking, but our laughter replaced earlier frustration. (94词)
On the final day, we presented our brochure in class. We stood by the blackboard as everyone went through the pages. They examined the brochure carefully, with their fingers tracing the photos, narratives and timelines which connected three generations of graduates. Noticing surprise on every face, we couldn’t wait to hear Mr. Dow’s announcement of the winner. “This work isn’t just about the school anniversary,” he finally said, tapping the cover where our three names shone, “it’s about how its spirit lives through students’ cooperation.” That afternoon in the library, seeing our brochure on display, we realized our combined talents had created what none could alone. His hands trembled with relief as he held the string tightly this time, grateful that he had found it. “I can’t believe I found it,” he said to himself, a huge smile spreading across his face.

It’s just like how 100 pennies make a dollar!” As understanding dawned, the frightened look faded from Schatz’ s face.
That night, Schatz smiled for the first time all day. After taking the medicine, he felt much better physically and mentally. With the moonlight shining through the window, his father sat by his bedside reading stories. “Dad,” Schatz said sleepily, “Can you teach me more about temperatures tomorrow ” the father smiled and said gently, “Of course.” As Schatz drifted to sleep, the last thing he felt wasn’t fear, but the warm weight of his father’s hand resting lightly on his forehead and his burning curiosity for more knowledge and cultural difference.

The next step was to spread the word to more kids in the community. Armed with posters, we visited schools, community centers, and playgrounds. We passionately shared our plan and showed pictures of the pond’s once-beautiful state. The kids, initially hesitant, perked up when we described how cleaning might be fun and how it would restore the pond’s future. We also created a social media group, posting updates and appealing for more help. Slowly but surely, more and more kids joined our cause. Before long, we had well over twenty enthusiastic volunteers, far exceeding my initial estimate.
Finally, the big cleaning day arrived. Equipped with long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins, we gathered around the pond. Everyone was full of energy, ready to take on the challenge. We carefully scooped up trash from the water surface, while others collected litter on the banks. As we worked, a sense of unity and purpose filled the air. After hours of hard work, the pond was transformed. The water started to regain its clarity, and the foul smell dissipated. Looking at our work, we felt a great sense of achievement, knowing that we had made a real difference to our community.

I also started volunteering at the same charitable organization that had helped me. I realized that even the smallest act of kindness could make a big difference.
I still keep the old green coat today, a reminder of that hard but warm day. It hangs in my closet, not as a symbol of my past struggles, but as a reminder of how far I've come. Then I remembered the other twelve balloons in the backseat. An idea sparked. I hurried to the car and returned with the vibrant bunch. Knocking on each resident’s door, I offered a balloon and a smile. Faces lit up like children receiving candies. An elderly lady tied hers to a walker, murmuring “Just like my granddaughter’s birthday.” Soon the courtyard bloomed with floating rainbows. Laughter echoed through the once-silent corridors. As twilight painted the sky, I sat surrounded by storytellers sipping lemonade. Their wrinkled hands patted mine gratefully. For the first time since moving here, loneliness dissolved like sugar in warm tea.
Over the next six months, I visited Daniel often. We planted sunflowers by his window, their golden faces tracking the sun like old friends nodding hello. He taught me chess moves from his army days, and I read him newspaper crosswords. Gradually, my students joined our visits, crafting paper cranes with nimble fingers while veterans shared wartime stories. By Christmas, the home buzzed with cookie-baking aromas and carol singers.
