“See you at Open House tonight, Amy,” Evelyn shouted from the school bus window. “Don’t forget to ask your mom if I can come over tomorrow!”
“OK!” I called back. I wished I could feel excited about my first Open House at my new school, but I was worried. What would other kids say when they found out my parents can’t hear
And I wanted Evelyn to visit but then she’d see how different my house was. My parents use a video phone so they can use sign language to communicate with callers. We also have a light on the wall that flashes when the phone or doorbell rings. Would Evelyn think my house was strange
That night, when Dad drove us to the brightly lit school, it looked different. As we walked down the hallway to my classroom, we stopped in front of the bulletin board in the hall. “Look at Amy’s picture!” Mom said, too loud. She does that when she’s excited because she can’t hear herself. Some older kids turned to stare (凝视) at us and I wanted to hide.
I led my family into my classroom and looked around. Other kids and parents were there, but I didn’t see Evelyn. Ms. Jennings walked over to us. I introduced my teacher to my family and let her know about my parents’ deafness.
“Oh,” she said. “Well, how do you say ‘Welcome!’ in sign language ”
“Like this,” I swept my open right hand in toward my body, palm up.
She repeated the gesture.
“Thank you,” Mom said, smiling. “It’s nice to meet you.”
Ms. Jennings looked surprised, “You speak very well,” she said. Mom nodded, “I lost my hearing as a child after I’d learned to talk. Amy’s father was born deaf. He can talk too, but he’s shy about his voice.” Dad smiled in agreement.
Some of my classmates were watching us and whispering (低语). Then I noticed Evelyn and her mom standing by the door.
“I sit over there,” I told my family and quickly walked toward my desk.
“Hi, Amy,” Evelyn said suddenly. “I didn’t know your parents are deaf.”
“Yeah,” I couldn’t think of anything else to say.
“And you can talk to them with your hands That’s so cool.”
“You think so ” I said with relief (宽慰).
Evelyn nodded, “It’s like a secret code. Would you teach me some words sometime ”
I smiled, “Of course. If you come over tomorrow, we can practise some sign language then.”
24.How is Amy’s house different
A.It is brightly lit with many lights. B.It is fixed up in a fun way.
C.It has special tools for deaf people. D.It has strange furniture.
25.Why did Amy want to hide at the Open House
A.She couldn’t find Evelyn.
B.Some older kids were unkind.
C.Her picture was on the board for all to see.
D.Her mom’s loud voice attracted unwanted attention.
26.What made Amy feel relieved
A.Evelyn finally promised to visit her house.
B.Her teacher learned sign language successfully.
C.Evelyn didn’t mind she was from a special family.
D.Her classmates changed their attitude toward her mom.
【答案】24.C 25.D 26.C
【导语】本文讲述了作者因父母是聋人而感到羞愧、自卑,但因老师和好朋友的友好态度而改变心态的故事。
24.推理判断题。根据“And I wanted Evelyn to visit but then she’d see how different my house was. My parents use a video phone so they can use sign language to communicate with callers. We also have a light on the wall that flashes when the phone or doorbell rings.”可知,Amy父母是聋人,所以家里安装了方便聋人生活的工具,这使得她家有些不同。故选C。
25.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“...Mom said, too loud. She does that when she’s excited because she can’t hear herself. Some older kids turned to stare at us and I wanted to hide.”可知,Amy的妈妈看到Amy的画作后激动得喊出声来,由于妈妈听力不好,喊的声音过大,从而吸引了同学们异样的眼光,Amy因此想躲藏起来。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据“‘And you can talk to them with your hands That’s so cool.’ ‘You think so ’ I said with relief .”可知,Evelyn认为会手语很酷,说明她不介意Amy来自特殊家庭,Amy因此感觉很宽慰。故选C。
Have you ever bought a new car and started noticing the exact color and model of car everywhere Has that type of car just become popular in your city Were they there before Or are you just going crazy
You’re not going crazy. The reason you are now just noticing them is what psychologists call “priming”. Basically, the cars were always there. You just didn’t recognize them consciously (有意识地). However, when that certain model of car becomes part of your conscious thinking, you start “automatically” (自动地) recognizing all of the other cars that are the same, because you are already “primed” to do so.
The priming effect takes many forms. In one study, students were asked to walk around a room for 5 minutes very slowly—about three times slower than how they normally walk. After this brief experience, the participants were much quicker to recognize words related to old age, such as forgetful, old, and lonely. Reciprocal priming effects tend to produce a coherent (连贯的) reaction: if you are primed to think of old age, you would be likely to act old, and acting old would strengthen the thought of old age. This research shows that the way we think influences the way we act, and the way we act influences the way we think.
A similar conclusion was reached by the American psychologist William James a century ago, but he stressed the effect on feeling. “Actions seem to follow feeling, but in fact actions and feeling go together; and by controlling the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly control the feeling, which is not. Thus, the path to cheerfulness, should our cheerfulness be lost, is to sit up cheerfully and to act and speak as if cheerfulness were already there.”
So, that’s it. If you want to be happy, just sit up and act happy. Based on these scientific findings, we can use certain priming effects to help make ourselves consistently (持续地) happier.
One thing we have in common is our ability to think, and thus feel. Pleasant thoughts, particularly thoughts and feelings of gratitude (感激), have been proven to produce the chemicals that make us feel happy. When we purposefully go through and think about the things, we’re grateful for and try hard to feel as much gratitude as we can, we are flooding our mind with the “happy chemicals”. Furthermore, by consciously thinking, feeling and expressing gratitude, we will not only be happier in the moment, we will be “primed” to recognize the things in our life to value. Each time this happens, the “happy chemicals” will be produced. Do this every day and we will become consistently happier. This makes up for the momentary happiness we gain from eating chocolate or buying new clothes. More than that, combining thoughts of gratitude with happy acts like smiling and laughing will have an additional positive effect on our state of mind.
27.Which of the following is an example of the priming effect
A.Walking much faster after attending a lecture about old age.
B.Raising money for the poor after seeing pictures of cute cats.
C.Learning about various types of cars after buying the first private car.
D.Completing SO P as SOUP rather than SOAP after seeing the word EAT.
28.What does the underlined word “reciprocal” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Related. B.Two-way. C.Well-rounded. D.Opposite.
29.What will the writer probably agree with
A.Eating or shopping leads to consistent feelings of happiness.
B.Our will has greater control over emotions than over actions.
C.Practicing gratitude often prepares us for long-term happiness.
D.Happy chemicals make us think about the things we’re grateful for.
【答案】27.D 28.B 29.C
【导语】本文主要介绍了心理学中的“启动效应”,通过日常现象和实验研究说明思维与行为的相互影响,并提出通过感恩练习可以提升长期幸福感。
27.推理判断题。根据“when that certain model of car becomes part of your conscious thinking, you start ‘automatically’ recognizing all of the other cars that are the same, because you are already ‘primed’ to do so.”
根据“Reciprocal priming effects tend to produce a coherent (连贯的) reaction: if you are primed to think of old age, you would be likely to act old, and acting old would strengthen the thought of old age. This research shows that the way we think influences the way we act, and the way we act influences the way we think.”可知,我们的思维方式会影响我们的行为方式,而我们的行为方式又会影响我们的思维方式,说明思维与行为是双向互相影响的关系,划线词表示“双向的”。故选B。
29.细节理解题。根据“Furthermore, by consciously thinking, feeling and expressing gratitude, we will not only be happier in the moment, we will be ‘primed’ to recognize the things in our life to value. Each time this happens, the ‘happy chemicals’ will be produced. Do this every day and we will become consistently happier”可知,经常练习感恩会让我们为长期幸福做好准备。故选C。
Envy (忌妒) isn’t always a sin (罪恶). Often, it’s a sign.
The feeling of envy hits at many moments these days: When a friend buys a car while you can’t because of expensive costs or when a neighbor shares good news about a successful job while your career (事业) stays the same.
Envy is universal, but we don’t have to feel ashamed of it. In fact, analyzing our envy to understand what we really want can help us figure out next steps in our careers and personal lives.
There are two types of envy. Malicious envy arrives with anger, frustration and a desire to take an advantage away from another person. Benign envy, on the other hand, is when you wish you were in someone else’s position but don’t feel the need to harm their success. That envy can spark self-reflection and the motivation to set new goals. Research showed that marathon runners who experience benign envy also set higher goals for themselves, and tend to run faster in their races.
Instead of hiding your envy, start by asking who makes you feel admiration and jealousy (嫉妒). Changing your perspective (视角) helps you view someone as a model to follow rather than a competitor to beat, and helps you focus on what you can control, says Sara Protasi, a philosophy professor. This shift in perspective is particularly important because research shows that feelings of being less successful usually appear when the other person is similar to us, which is why envy toward a classmate or a neighbor feels stronger than toward a celebrity (名人).
Get curious about facts, rather than opinions. Research their path or ask them for advice. Dig into their experience, you may find methods to learn new skills. For example, Gill Le Fevre, a 51-year-old marketing professional, felt envious when her relative landed a new job. It wasn’t the job itself she wanted but the sense of direction and achievement her cousin had. This realization encouraged her to complete a master’s degree while continuing her career. “Envy was the elbow in the ribs,” says Le Fevre.
If you cannot stop thinking about comparisons and they’re not helping you move forward, try writing them down. “Spend 20 minutes thinking about envy and write down your thoughts.” said Robert L. Leahy, a cognitive therapy expert. Look for hidden clues in your writing. If you’re envious of someone at the gym, is it their hard work, positive attitude or stylish workout clothes sparking that emotion
If you still feel jealous of others’ achievements, consider broadening your goals beyond work or study. Spending more time with family or pets, taking walks and improving your fitness can all be worthwhile goals. “The envious person thinks about life as a race or a ladder, but that’s not what life is,” said Leahy.
30.According to the passage, which of the following is true
A.People are more likely to envy others when sharing similarities.
B.Malicious envy can encourage people to set higher goals in races.
C.Research into your envy and competitors ensure your achievement.
D.Hiding envy is considered to be a good way to avoid feelings of shame.
31.Why is the example of Gill Le Fevre mentioned in the passage
A.To tell how envy can lead to positive personal and career growth.
B.To stress the importance of finding some methods to learn new skills.
C.To highlight the value of taking higher degrees for career development.
D.To show how changing careers can help one find greater meaning in life.
32.What does Leahy mean by saying “The envious person thinks about life as a race or a ladder, but that’s not what life is’’
A.People caught by envy will fall from the ladder of life.
B.What matters in life are not comparisons with others.
C.Life is more important than taking part in a race.
D.Envy can be a ladder towards a successful life.
33.Which would be the best title for the passage
A.Broaden Your Goals with the Help of Envy B.Stop Damaging Relationships over Envy
C.Run Away from Envy and Be Yourself D.Turn Envy from Sin to Superpower
【答案】30.A 31.A 32.B 33.D

30.细节理解题。根据第五段“This shift in perspective is particularly important because research shows that feelings of being less successful usually appear when the other person is similar to us”可知,研究表明,当对方与我们相似时,更容易产生嫉妒。故选A。
31.推理判断题。根据第六段“Get curious about facts, rather than opinions. Research their path or ask them for advice. Dig into their experience, you may find methods to learn new skills. For example, Gill Le Fevre, a 51-year-old marketing professional, felt envious... while continuing her career. ”可知,通过Gill Le Fevre 的例子是为了说明了羡慕能够激励人去作出积极改变,从而在事业或个人成长上有所收获。故选A。
32.词句猜测题。根据“‘The envious person thinks about life as a race or a ladder, but that’s not what life is,’ said Leahy.”

I was standing in front of the dressing-room mirror, looking unhappy. I wore a white dancing dress and a white swim cap that covered most of my hair. I was one of 10 snowflakes in my dance school’s Winter Wonderland Show.
“Grandma, I really don’t feel like being in the show,” I said. Grandma Lani looked up from what she was doing. “Why, Avery You love to dance.” I used to love to dance. But Ms. Tuttle gave the part of the Snow Queen to Lisa. She got to do a dance onstage all by herself. The snowflakes just had to run and spin (旋转) to look like a snowstorm. “I don’t like our dance. And no one would notice if I wasn’t there. There are so many of us.” I sighed (叹气).
Grandma was about to speak. Then something outside the window caught her eye. She got my coat and pulled me out of the dressing room and through the doors to the outside. It was snowing. Grandma held her breath, and I suddenly thought of something. “Grandma, have you ever seen snow before ” “No. In Hawaii, it snows only on the very tops of mountains.”
I had seen snow lots of times, but now I tried to see it differently. Like it was new. So many snowflakes came together to create something magical. “Aloha,” my grandma said softly to the sky. Aloha can mean many things, including “love”, “hello”, and “good-bye”. She continued to say, “I don’t know when I’ll see something like that again.” “I do,” I said. I took Grandma Lani’s hand and pulled her back inside.

Every year, a lot of food is wasted, and kitchens are one of the biggest causes. The Zero-Waste Kitchen aims to change this by helping people cook and manage food with as little waste as possible. This concept (概念) can go back to the 1980s in the United States, but it was Bea Johnson’s 2013 book, Zero Waste Home, that made it widely popular.
Why is the Zero-Waste Kitchen important Food waste is more than throwing away leftovers (剩饭). It also includes wasting the water, energy, and work used to grow, move, and make food. Cutting down on kitchen waste not only saves money but also helps the environment and makes better use of natural resources (资源).
Many experts believe that small changes in cooking and shopping habits can help people practice a zero-waste lifestyle. Here are some simple ways to start.
Plan before you shop. Buy only what you need. A famous Chef, Massimo Bottura says, “Cooking is an act of love, but it requires planning to avoid waste.” We can make a shopping list according to the planned meals. Then we will buy only what is necessary, reducing the chance of food going bad.
Store food properly. As a food storage expert, Karen Kingston notes, “Proper storage can make the life of food longer and keep its good value for health. For example, using the right boxes and knowing how to keep different kinds of food can help stop food from going bad.”
Make good use of leftovers. “Leftovers are an opportunity for creativity,” says Chef Dan Barber. Instead of throwing them away, we can use leftovers to create new meals. For example, leftover vegetables can be used to make soup, and overripe (熟透的) fruit can be used for juice. If leftovers cannot be eaten, they can be composted (制成堆肥) to improve soil and reduce waste.
All in all, the Zero-Waste Kitchen is a simple and practical way to protect our planet. By making small changes in daily life, we can all help make the future cleaner and greener. Next time you cook, can you find one way to waste less
27.According to the passage, why is cutting down on kitchen waste important
A.Because it is an easy task to complete in our everyday life.
B.Because kitchen waste is the main cause of resource shortage.
C.Because it helps to save on costs and benefits the environment.
D.Because kitchen waste is responsible for most of the water waste.
28.Why does the writer use the example of Chef Massimo Bottura in Paragraph 4
A.To teach readers how to make a shopping list.
B.To explain why shopping needs better planning.
C.To encourage people to cook more often at home.
D.To show us how famous chefs cook delicious meals.
29.What is the passage mainly about
A.How the Zero-Waste Kitchen concept developed over time.
B.Why it is important for us to live a zero-waste lifestyle.

In many areas of life, people compete even when it does not benefit them. Office workers stay late at work to avoid looking lazy. On social media, people feel pressured to post perfect photos. These situations all come from a problem called the theater effect, which explains why people find it hard to stop competing, even when it is unnecessary.
The theater effect happens when one person tries to do better, forcing others to follow. In the end, everyone works harder, but no one truly benefits. Imagine watching a movie—if the people in front stand up, those behind must stand too. Finally, everyone is standing, but the view remains the same.
A well-known experiment at Stanford University tested this idea. Researchers invited 200 people to bid (竞标) for a $100 bill. The highest bidder won, but the second-highest still had to pay. At first, bids were small, but as the price neared $100, people refused to stop. Some even bid more than $100 just to avoid losing their earlier bids. This irrational behavior shows that once competition begins, people realize that it’s hard to stop competing, even when it no longer makes sense.
The theater effect comes from early human survival instincts (本能). Back then, the dopamine system (多巴胺系统) in our brain made us feel good about short-term success, like catching food, because it ensured survival. Today, this same system drives us to aim for victory in competitions—even when the results are meaningless. However, modern life is different. Today, while basic needs are no longer a big problem for us, we should learn to think clearly.
Then how can we stop this kind of useless competition First, we should know that we don’t need to win all the time to prove our value. Real growth means doing better than before, not better than others. Second, we should take a moment to ask ourselves, “Are we doing it because we truly enjoy it, or just because we are afraid to be left behind ” Another important point is to aim for meaningful goals, not just to win. Focus on what truly matters, and feel peace in your heart—that is how we find real happiness.
So next time you feel pressured to “stand up”, just because others do, ask yourself: Is this really the best choice for me
30.According to the passage, which is probably the example of the theater effect
A.A family enjoys a quiet dinner without surfing the internet.
B.A company gives praise to workers for their continual efforts.
C.People set a long-term goal to exercise more for better health.
D.Students sign up for more classes because others are doing so.

B.it is wise to stop and think before joining in a competition
C.competition is important and always helps us move forward
D.following others is a safe way to avoid making wrong choices
33.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage

In our writing club, we often shared our stories with a critique partner to give helpful feedback (反馈) so we could tell the best story.
Today my critique partner was Penny. As I handed my story to her, I was nervous. I had no problem coming up with great story ideas. I did have problems with spelling and grammar. Penny didn’t look at me or smile as she pushed her story across the table toward me. Why was she worried She always got perfect scores on her spelling and grammar tests.
I read her story without stopping. It was perfect! I loved it. “Wow, great story,” I told her. “I don’t have any suggestions.”
“Yours too,” she mumbled (嘟哝). She didn’t even look at me as she passed mine back.
After class, Penny hurried out of the library. I noticed a book under her table. It must have fallen out of Penny’s bag. I read the description on the back and found it was just like Penny’s story! I couldn’t believe Penny had copied this idea! It wasn’t fair!
Outside of the school, I spotted (发现) Penny sitting on a bench. I walked over and handed the book to her. She hung her head, almost crying! All of a sudden, I wasn’t angry anymore. I remembered that my job as her critique partner was to give helpful feedback, not to make her feel bad. But what should I say
I kept thinking about Penny as I walked home. I decided to ask Mom for help. When I found her in the kitchen making dinner with Dad, I realized that Mom and Dad had different skills, making them a great creative team. That gave me an idea to suggest to Penny.
At school the next morning, I found Penny at her locker.
“I thought I would love writing club, but I never have a single idea for a story,” she said.

In recent years, there has been a cultural change in the way we talk about mental health. We began to understand how important our emotional needs were. Since we’re paying more attention to our inner lives, it’s also necessary that we take action. Fortunately, there are a number of things that we can do to nourish (滋养) our mental health and find moments of joy.
1
The fastest, easiest ways you can calm your mind and body is by taking slow, deep breaths. Doing so helps to lower your blood pressure and make your heart beat regularly. One breathing exercise that can be particularly helpful is 4-4-8 breathing, where you breathe in for four counts, hold your breath for four counts and breathe out for eight counts.
Take part in the arts
The idea that art can improve mental well-being is something many people understand but don’t necessarily put into practice. You don’t need talent to give it a try, experts say. Writing a poem, singing or drawing are all good choices. One of the easiest ways to get started is to spend 20 minutes coloring a complex (复杂的) design.
Enter the walk
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to connect with the nature around us. Pick a walking place (either new or familiar) and imagine that you’re seeing it for the first time. Then pay attention to your senses. Feel the wind on your face, touch a flower, and simply notice the sky. It can make you stronger and healthier than you might expect.
Take a tech break
If you’re having trouble focusing, it’s not just you. Research has found that over the past twenty years, the amount of time we spend on a given task has reduced to an average of just 47 seconds, down from two and a half minutes. Technology is often to blame (责备). A method called “tech breaks” may help you regain control of your attention. Set a timer for 15 minutes, then silence and set aside your phone. When time is up, take one or two minutes to check your favorite apps-that’s your tech break and get back to work for another 15-minute cycle. The goal is to gradually increase the time between your tech breaks building up to 45 minutes (or more) away from your phone.

A.Count numbers. B.Do exercise regularly. C.Take a deep breath. D.Understand your mind.
28.According to the passage, which is the right way to improve mental health
A.Starting from developing talent. B.Getting away from our phones.
C.Checking your favorite apps. D.Taking a walk in the nature.
29.What can we learn from the passage
A.People change their attitude towards their lives in recent years.
B.People began to realize the importance of mental well-being.
C.The longer “tech break” lasts, the better it is for our mental health
D.Mental health can’t be improved by art because we don’t have talent.

Human augmentation technologies are all around you. They are wearable and portable (便携的). And they are so much a part of your daily life that you may not even notice them.
Do you, or any of your family and friends, wear eyeglasses Glasses allow us to see further, in finer detail. Next, think about the phone in your pocket. Phones enable us to quickly connect with people far away and to get a large amount of information on the internet. They each strengthen our human abilities to a surprising degree. Work exos make physical jobs easier, or help improve a worker’s physical performance or safety. Workers who do overhead tasks, like painting ceilings (天花板) can use arm exos to make these jobs less tiring and reduce their risk of shoulder injuries. This means workers can do their jobs without getting as tired or sore, which can improve work quality and well-being both at work and after work.
There are also exos to support many other tasks and body parts. There are exos for the back, hands, and legs. For example, delivery workers who load (装载) and unload boxes can use back exos to make lifting easier and less tiring. Doctors and nurses who need to stand for long periods of time can use leg exos to help support their body weight. Leg exos are also being developed for soldiers, firefighters, and mountaineers who may have to carry heavy equipment (设备) over long distances.
Exos are such a new technology that they are not yet widely used at work. But many experts expect that exos will become widely used in certain industries in the future. My Dad, a Superhero
When I was only seven, my family took a road trip to San Francisco. My father was driving our family car along the highway. The rain was pouring down so heavily that each drop of rain felt as if it were going to break the windshield (挡风玻璃).
I wasn’t scared. The downpour fascinated me. However, my brother, who is only one year younger than me, was annoying me with his unfriendly hits. I tried hard to stop him but failed. I could only complain to Mom and our sister about the fighting in the backseat, but it was useless.
My father, who was driving, knew the way to stop us from fighting. So he said, “Boys, do you know that I have learned magic ”
My brother and I stopped immediately. “What ”
My father replied, “Do you want me to show you some magic ”
I felt so excited that I jumped out of my seat. Even my brother was curious about what Dad was saying. It was every child’s dream to have a superhero father.
“I have the ability to stop the rain from falling. It’s only for short periods of time, so you have to pay close attention,” he said.
I was speechless. This seemed to be an impossible trick, even for a superhero. I could only stare at him through the rearview mirror (后视镜), wondering if the magic could really stop the rain.
“Are you ready ” he asked. “Yes!” we both answered.
“Okay. Let me collect my powers.” There was a short pause. “Okay. First, I have to say the magic words ‘Abra Cadabra’. Here we go ... Abra Cadabra!”
And just like that, for one second, the rain stopped! It was a miracle! I was shocked. My dad really was a superhero. How could I not have known For years, he must have hidden his magical weapons in the garage. I bet his old car was just a cover so that the bad guys wouldn’t know who he really was.
“Wow!” I said to my brother, who seemed to be just as amazed as I was. “Wow...” was all he could say, too.
Then our car drove under another overpass.

Many of us have had the same “pleasant surprise”. After you mark a song as a favorite on a music app, it suggests songs of the same kind to listen to. In fact, this seemingly magic, mind-reading power depends on data (数据).
Data is no longer only about numbers, but information about almost every part of our lives: where we go, what we do, and our likes and dislikes. Together it is called Big Data.
Big Data makes life more convenient. The smart traffic system in Los Angeles is a good example. It collects real-time traffic data and controls 4,500 traffic lights in the system. If an accident happens, the system will change the lights near there to allow cars to pass quickly.
Big Data can also bring in money. UK’s Tesco encourages its customers to have Clubcards. According to the data collected through Clubcards, Tesco knows their shopping habits and then suggests products on its website. The related app on a mobile phone even guides customers around supermarkets to find what they want and makes suggestions for what they may like.
However, this information-collecting process raises serious questions about how we protect our privacy. Big business companies like Tesco and governments can collect our private information and use it against our wishes. The laws should be able to protect people’s rights in the Big Data age.
And Big Data shouldn’t be confused with big ideas. Big Data requires you to have data first. That means the data is about what has happened in the past, not what you can imagine happening in the future. What if Albert Einstein lived today and not 100 years ago What would Big Data say about the theory of relativity (相对论) No experiment data could support his idea at the time—that’s why we call it a breakthrough. Another example is school. Big Data can lead to school improvement. But great ideas can inspire teaching and learning in classrooms. That’s what matters.
Though there are side effects, the benefits of Big Data are so big that there’s no going back. We just make the best use of it.
27.What are Paragraphs 3 and 4 mainly about
A.The surprise of Big Data. B.The information of Big Data.
C.The benefits of Big Data. D.The side effects of Big Data.
28.The writer talks about the theory of relativity to ________.
A.introduce the disadvantages of using Big Data
B.stress that big ideas are different from Big Data
C.show that Albert Einstein was a great scientist
D.suggest that schools should depend on big ideas
29.From the passage, we can learn that Big Data ________.
A.has mind-reading power B.is numbers about people
C.tells us about the future D.needs to be properly used

28.推理判断题。根据第六段“And Big Data shouldn’t be confused with big ideas. ...”可知,爱因斯坦的相对论在提出时缺乏实验数据支持,但最终成为突破性理论,说明“大创意”不依赖既有数据;作者以此对比“大数据”的局限性,强调两者本质不同。故选B。
29.推理判断题。根据“Though there are side effects, the benefits of Big Data are so big that there’s no going back. We just make the best use of it.”可知,大数据虽有利弊,但因其巨大价值需“善加利用”。故选D。
Group exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve physical fitness and sustain (保持) a healthy lifestyle. Group exercise is challenging, yet fun and empowering! Of course, everyone knows that exercise is good for the body. However, studies have shown that when exercise is performed in groups, it’s not only great for improving physical health but for psychological (心理的) health. It’s an opportunity to be social, release endorphins (内啡肽) , and improve your strength. Additionally, group exercise creates a community feel and the shared common goal pushes participants to work hard. The instrumental support of taking on a fitness journey with others proves more effective than going to the gym alone.
Another beneficial aspect of group exercise is the informational support participants receive from the instructor. Many people fear the gym because they feel lost and don’t want to embarrass themselves. If you feel you can relate, then group training is an even better choice for you. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about fitness through the clear instruction and supervision (监管) of a fitness instructor. If you’re tired of wandering around the gym wasting time and becoming bored, you can attend an upbeat group fitness class that’ll keep your workout on track. Don’t let fitness frighten you!
If you’re serious about wanting to live a healthy lifestyle, it’s extremely important to surround yourself with people who’ll provide you with the proper emotional support. I wouldn’t scold anyone for deciding to party on weekends and in turn I wouldn’t expect anyone to give offence to me for focusing on my health. Surround yourself with people who uplift, encourage and understand you! Make fitness even more fun by trying something new or any group fitness class, with a friend. Plan to go for a jog together. Then try a fun healthy restaurant or fresh juice bar! Fitness can be both fun and social!
Surrounding yourself with people who’ll provide you with respect support can be very beneficial while working towards reaching health and fitness goals. First, decide to do it for yourself and work towards staying positive. Then make sure the people you surround yourself with are supportive. Don’t let negativity ruin your motivation.
30.We can learn from the first paragraph that ________.
A.group exercise faces a lot of challenges

In 2019, I began my Chinese language journey at the Confucius Institute in Rome. I wanted a new challenge—something truly different that would expand my worldview. From the very first lesson, I found it both exciting and challenging. The characters, the tones, and the unique sentence structures deeply attracted me.
However, my interest soon branched out far beyond linguistics (语言学). As I explored further, I discovered that learning the language was just the gateway to a huge cultural heritage (遗产) going back thousands of years. Eager to understand the literary heart of China, I began with Tang Dynasty poetry. Poems by Li Bai and Du Fu introduced me to China’s poetic tradition. Then I explored earlier works like the Shi Jing and Chu Ci, further broadening my understanding of regional literary expressions (地域文学表达). I also took courses on Chinese history, literature and art history. In each new topic, I discovered various viewpoints on life, art and morality (道德).
All these discoveries inspired me to share what I have learned. I wanted to introduce Chinese traditions, stories and innovations (创新) to people back home. I decided to create a magazine, focusing on Chinese culture and traditions, such as history, mythology (神话), literature and art, along with special columns on tea culture and regional foods.
Starting this publishing adventure has also been exciting and challenging. From selecting articles and editing translations to working with experts who can provide unique insights, I felt like I was constantly learning. And that made me fascinated (着迷的) about China.
More importantly, I hope I can contribute to a mutual (相互的) understanding between cultures. If my journey from a curious language student in Rome to a cultural ambassador (大使) helps encourage others to explore, then I will find my personal “China moment”.

Thinking Outside the Box
What if, whenever we face any challenge, we stopped and asked, “what if ” What if we challenged the rules and started thinking outside the box
Thinking outside the box is a metaphor (隐喻) often used to describe different, or creative thinking. It shows up in simple things like using paper to make crafts— instead of just writing on them—for example.
According to Fast Company, the term came into use in the 1970s. Management consultants (顾问) would give clients a 9-dot puzzle and ask them to connect the dots with only 4 lines. Naturally, this task requires some lateral thinking (跨界思维), so the consultants would encourage their clients to “think outside the box.” In this case, in order to come up with an innovative solution, they needed to look beyond the box and create something else.
One thing stands out for us from this exercise. At first, you see a box. To draw those 4 lines, you have to first use up all the ways within the box. Only then can you realize that the problem is the box itself. You come to that realization after understanding the box and uncovering its limitations. To think outside the box is to fully understand the current situation—then challenge it.
Thinking outside the box helps you to solve challenging problems. It allows you to look beyond a narrow view to find answers that would not exist otherwise. Thinking outside the box also forces you to widen your horizon. And when you widen your horizon, you become aware of opportunities. Diversity of experience, divergent thinking (发散思维), and a willingness to take risks encourages people to grow. Thinking small keeps us small. When we stay within our comfort zone, taking risks, growing, and challenging the norm all seem much more frightening. To become an effective leader, or a team member, think outside the box.
Whatever you do, think twice: First in the box, then outside the box. Outside-the-box thinking often breaks the routines and may sound ridiculous (荒谬的). But without thinking outside the box, these people, like Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton, wouldn’t have changed the world in the way they did. Master the established rules of your craft, apply them and if they’re not bringing results, allow yourself to start thinking outside the box. You’ll be glad you did.
27.Which of the following is an example of the “lateral thinking”
A.Using a plastic bottle as a bird feeder.
B.Buying milk at a grocery store.
C.Taking an elevator to the office.
D.Watching TV in the evening.
28.What does the sentence “Thinking small keeps us small.” mean in paragraph 5
A.Small thinking helps achieve big goals.
B.Avoiding challenges and risks limits personal growth.
C.Big thinking 专题03 阅读理解(原卷版)

A.To teach readers how to make a shopping list.
B.To explain why shopping needs better planning.

29.What is the passage mainly about
A.How the Zero-Waste Kitchen concept developed over time.

“Well, I have ideas, but I wish I could write perfectly like you do,” I said.
“What if we worked on a story together I bet we could come up with something great.”

27.What might be the heading of Paragraph 2
And yet, they are completely ordinary nowadays.
But, what about physical augmentation Imagine something you could wear to make lifting easier or allow you to hold heavy tools without getting tired. What you are imagining is called an exoskeleton, or exo for short. Exos are wearable devices (装置) that support or augment movement or performance through physical work.
There is still more to learn scientifically about the longer-term effects of exos, but over the next ten years, the popularity of these wearable technologies is expected to grow rapidly. Exos might even become standard tools or safety equipment in certain jobs in the near future.

24.Who was fighting with the writer on the trip to San Francisco
A.His brother. B.His father. C.His mother. D.His sister.
25.When the father wanted to show some magic, the boys were ________.
A.relaxed and amazed B.excited and curious C.scared but surprised D.angry but worried
26.What might happen next according to the end of the story
A.The mother might be angry with the father.
B.The bad guys might know who the father really was.
C.The boys might know the truth of their father’s magic.
D.The family might find some magical weapons in the garage.
A.has mind-reading power B.is numbers about people
C.tells us about the future D.needs to be properly used
Group exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve physical fitness and sustain (保持) a healthy lifestyle.
B.group exercise is beneficial to psychological health
C.group exercise improves physical health most effectively
D.group exercise is less interesting than going to the gym alone
31.The underlined word “upbeat” in the second paragraph probably means “________”.
A.cheerful B.average C.serious D.popular
32.When it comes to emotional support, the writer thinks it necessary ________.
A.to sustain a colorful lifestyle
B.to try a fun healthy restaurant regularly
C.to party on weekends with positive people
D.to surround yourself with supportive people
33.What would be the best title for the passage
A.Looking for Support B.Supporting Health
C.Improving Your Strength D.Building Up Fitness

A.Small thinking helps achieve big goals.
B.Avoiding challenges and risks limits personal growth.
C.Big thinking leads to unnecessary risks and problems.
D.Small thinking is key to staying safe and comfortable.
29.What’s the main purpose in writing this passage
A.To discuss unusual methods.
B.To criticize creative thinking.
C.To explain ways to avoid risks.
D.To encourage us to break routines.
It’s looking increasingly likely that 2025 will be the year “My people will talk to your people” becomes “My AI will talk to your AI.” Are you ready
OpenAI recently introduced an artificial intelligence model that emulates (模仿) human-like reasoning about complex (复杂的) problems. It even shows the steps in its reasoning, so that humans can check its work. This development was quickly emulated by other AI developers. What then followed was “agentic AI (代理式人工智能),” where AI agents (AI智能体) can be given a complex goal, and use their new reasoning power to work out the complex steps necessary to achieve that goal.
Google, OpenAI and Anthropic had already made such agents available to their customers, at a cost. Then, the Chinese startup DeepSeek launched (上市) AI models that compete with the best US models and come free of charge. This has shocked AI companies in the US. DeepSeek isn’t just new competition for established players; it created its model without the latest processors (处理器) and at a low cost of its competitors. Moreover, the model is open, allowing other AI developers to understand how it works, emulate it and use it in novel ways. Most importantly, DeepSeek AI’s entry into a previously closed market will speed up the presence of AI agents, greatly affecting humans and human society.
It isn’t hard to see how agentic AI will make businesses more efficient (效率高的). But AI is sure to disrupt (打乱) social systems. Humans are social creatures. While AI models are designed for problem solving, human minds are far more focused on human relationships. Some people are happy solving problems alone, but most of us eventually end up around the coffee bar or water cooler socializing. But as AI agents become agentic, they will increasingly shape our self-understanding. With robots or androids, we might begin to see an ever more machine-like
understanding of ourselves. The more we treat technology like a human partner, the more we will understand ourselves as a form of technology. AI agents will quicken that process. Before this goes further, we should stop and take stock of (仔细审视) our own humanity.
We will not find our humanity in our AI companions. It can only be found within our fellow humans, and only by doing what we humans alone are known to do: imagining together fuller and richer humanity than any technology could emulate or create.
30.What started the connected reactions in AI development
A.OpenAI’s explainable reasoning model.
B.DeepSeek’s problems.
C.DeepSeek’s low-cost strategy.
D.Human’s love for video games.
31.According to the passage, what do you know about DeepSeek
A.It uses the latest processors to create its AI model.
B.Its AI model is more expensive than US models.
C.Its AI model is available to users without cost.
D.It doesn’t compete with US AI companies.
32.What warning does the author give about AI agents
A.They may change the way humans act.
B.They cannot understand scientific concepts.
C.They need expensive processors to function.
D.They will destroy traditional business models.
33.What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage
A.To introduce the development of AI.
B.To show the advantages of AI agents.
C.To encourage people to develop better AI agents.
D.To call on people to think about humanity when using AI.

“Guess what, Ethan!” his mother said, a week after moving into their new house. “One of my old friends lives nearby and her son Leo is your classmate. Is he your friend ”
Ethan shook his head. “That boy isn’t good at games or anything. He keeps reading old books all the time.”
Ethan was the captain of the school baseball team and was also good at many other sports.
“Well, maybe he is more interested in other things than sports,” said his mother. “You might also pick up a new interest from him. We’ve invited his family to tea this evening.”
That evening, the two boys didn’t talk a lot. Ethan knew Leo wasn’t good at sports, and he didn’t try to find out Leo’s interests. So, both felt quite relieved when Leo left.
Though their mothers visited each other often, Ethan and Leo never did. They just had nothing in common.
One day, while playing football, Ethan broke his leg and had to stay at home for six weeks. Lying in bed, he felt very lonely and upset, especially with the inter-school baseball match around the corner. At first, his friends visited often. But as the match drew near, they became too busy with practice to come.
One evening, Leo unexpectedly visited. Shyly, he handed Ethan a book. “You must be bored. This might help.”
Ethan picked it up without much interest, but the cover caught his eye—a yellow and golden lion called Simba. Inside were shiny photos of Simba and his friends.
“It’s a good book,” Leo said, “I think you’ll like it.” He then got up to go.
“Don’t go so soon,” said Ethan. “Tell me about the book.”
Leo sat down again and shared the story of Simba. Ethan was so fascinated that he asked for more books about animals.
Leo began visiting every evening, and Ethan grew to enjoy his company. He gradually learned about Leo’s deep love for zoology, his weekly zoo trips, and his collection of pets at home.
Six weeks later, Ethan returned to school. That evening, he visited Leo, who was feeding his pets.
“I’m going to the zoo on Sunday, Ethan,” Leo said, “Would you like to come along Maybe we can watch the lion cubs play with their mom.”
“That would be great,” said Ethan, his eyes sparkling at the thought.
24.Ethan was not friends with Leo at first because ________.
A.Ethan was too shy to talk B.Leo didn’t like reading C.Ethan didn’t have any pets D.Leo wasn’t good at sports
25.What did Leo do when Ethan was lying in bed
A.He visited Ethan with animal books. B.He gave some photos of zoos to Ethan.
C.He watched a baseball match with Ethan. D.He brought his pets for Ethan to play with.

A.Openness invites new friendship. B.Reading keeps our mind active.
C.Doing sports improves relationship. D.Interests help us find life goals.
Ever since we learned that the surface of Mars is cold and dead, people have wondered if there is a way to make it friendlier to life. Problems ahead include deadly UV rays and salty soil. But the biggest is that the surface temperature of Mars averages about -60°C. A recent study published in Science Advances put forward a revolutionary way to take one step closer to our age-old dream to live on Mars.
In the study, the researchers designed particles (颗粒) that look like tiny short sticks in order to keep the heat and scatter sunlight towards the surface, strengthening Mars’ natural greenhouse effect. This study shows that if the particles were sent into Mars’ atmosphere (大气) continuously at 30L per second, the planet would warm by more than 10°C, to temperatures suitable for microbial (微生物的) life—an important first step towards making Mars suitable for humans to live on.
What makes this method stand out among others is its use of materials available on Mars, making it far more practical than earlier ideas that depended on transporting materials from the Earth. And the new method is over 5,000 times more effective than earlier ones to globally warm Mars. This method would still take decades (数十年). But as Edwin Kite, a researcher in the team, said, “At least this suggests that the difficulty of warming Mars to allow liquid (液态的) water is not as big as thought before.”
However, much work remains to be done. We don’t know exactly how fast the particles would cycle out of Mars’ atmosphere, for example. Mars does have water and clouds, and, as the planet warms, it’s possible that water would begin to turn into tiny drops around the particles and fall back to the surface as rain. This would result in a decrease of particles in Mars’ atmosphere, reducing the warming effect. Kite noted, “Climate feedbacks are really difficult to model correctly. We would need more data from both Mars and the Earth and must proceed carefully to ensure the effects.”
Besides, the researchers stress that the study focuses on warming Mars to temperatures suitable for microbial life and possibly growing food crops—not on creating a breathable atmosphere for humans. Anyway, this research shows new possibilities for exploration and could bring us one step closer to our long-held dream of living on Mars.
27.According to the recent study, the particles could ________.
A.do harm to the microbial life B.deal with UV rays and salty soil
C.increase the temperature on Mars D.build a greenhouse for men to live in
28.What can we learn about the new method
A.Humans can breathe on Mars if it works properly.
B.Its full effect will be seen soon as the particles are sent.
C.Materials from the Earth will be transported to Mars.
D.Drops of water with the particles in may fall back as rain.
29.What is the passage mainly about
A.A more practical way to heat Mars. B.An age-old dream to explore Mars.
C.Chance of creating Mars’ atmosphere. D.Difficulty of making Mars more livable.
Children have an unbelievably curious mind. They explore new things for no other reason except that they just desire (渴望) to know. But as kids grow, they often fall into fixed thinking patterns. George Land, a researcher from NASA, studied 1, 600 children, testing their creative potential and curiosity levels at age 5, 10, and 15. The first time these kids took the test, 98% scored the highest possible score. Five years later, only 30% of them scored well. For the third time—by then in high school—only 12% of the kids did well.
This dramatic decrease in curiosity could be caused by their increase in knowledge, according to George Land. Once they feel like there’s no gap (缺口) between what they know and what they want to know, they just stop acting curious. Curiosity, it seems, gets unlearned as people age. But why should we care
Research shows that allowing our curiosity to be piqued can be very good for our mind. For example, when presented with an interesting puzzle that doesn’t have a clear answer, your brain is highly activated—it gets ready for learning and becomes more creative in handling related tasks. Lit by curiosity, the mind sharpens its focus and gains a fresh perspective (角度) .
In education, curiosity serves as a stepping stone to academic (学术的) success. For one thing, it boosts memory. A study in Neuron finds that when participants are highly curious about a fact, they are 30% more likely to remember it. Curiosity also builds patience. A study from Duke University shows that curious people are more willing to wait for the solution to a puzzle, while less curious people always rush through tasks, missing opportunities for deeper learning.
The benefits of curiosity do not end here. Greater curiosity can make people more open to hearing others’ opinions, even if they differ from their own. This openness is key to productive disagreements and helps avoid problems like groupthink, where poor decision-making happens because people don’t consider different viewpoints.
Ready to do more to develop your curiosity The good news is that low levels of curiosity don't mean your curiosity is just gone. In fact, you can actively train your curiosity. One effective way is to ask yourself questions and write them down and find the answers later. This simple step of finding gaps in your knowledge naturally inspires more curiosity.
We all start out curious. It’s our choice to be curious or not. As physicist Richard Feynman wisely said, “Nearly everything is really interesting if you go into it deeply enough.” And with the proven benefits, you may be surprised where curiosity leads you.
30.According to the passage, some people stop being curious because ________.
A.they develop a more open mindset as they age
B.they try to focus on their work rather than the mind
C.their knowledge increase weakens their desire to know
D.their study interest drops after getting poor scores at school
31.The word “piqued” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.
A.tested B.raised C.explained D.received
32.Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with
A.Less curious people often suffer more from memory loss.
B.High curiosity pushes people to look for quick solutions.
C.Curiosity allows healthy disagreement within a group.
D.Curiosity can be improved by remembering knowledge.
33.What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A.To prove the possibility of training curiosity.
B.To encourage people to restore their curiosity.
C.To show how curiosity leads to academic success.
D.To explore different reasons for developing curiosity.

Samuel lived in a small village near a big mountain. He was an ordinary (普通的) man, but he had big dreams and a heart full of hope. Even if life was not easy for him, he always believed hard work could change everything.
Every day, Samuel looked at the mountain. It stood high and strong, making him want to be strong too.
One day, Samuel decided to climb the mountain. The villagers laughed at him. “You can’t do it!” they said. However, Samuel didn’t let their mockery (嘲笑) stop him. With strong determination (决心), he began his journey up the mountain.
The path was tough, with steep slopes (山坡), slippery rocks, and unpredictable weather making the journey rather dangerous. Samuel fell lots of times. His leg hurt and he felt very tired, but he didn’t give up.
On the way, Samuel met other travelers. They helped each other. Soon, they became brothers, cheering each other up and sharing stories of their hard times and successes. Their friendship made them all stronger.
As Samuel climbed higher, the air got thinner, and the challenges grew harder. Samuel felt tired and scared. “Maybe I should stop,” he thought. But then, he remembered his dream. “I must try!” he told himself. With that thought, he moved on, bit by bit.
