Pupae
The larvae will stop eating and start to make silk cocoons (茧) around themselves.
It takes two days. Then, they turn into pupae.

With the wide use of drones (无人机) in China, the requirements for training professional drone pilots is
rising.
As of June, the country had licensed over 1.87 million drones to fly. But so far, only around 225,000 people
have received the necessary licenses from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for working on
drones. There is a shortage (缺乏) of about 1 million licensed drone pilots in the country, said Li, an official at the
National Development and Reform Commission.
Drones have been used in agriculture (农 业 ), video filming, environmental protection and other areas,
drone pilots can choose from many industries (行业) to work in. Some pilots are paid around 30,000 yuan per
month.
To get drone-flying licenses for distances under 500 meters, people are required to have 44 hours of
training. For longer distances, 56 hours are needed. “I believe drones are the future and they have been used in
more than 100 scenarios (场景), so the future is promising,” said Dong, president of the company.
The popularity of the licenses has much to do with the rapid development of the low- altitude economy (低
空经济) in China. According to the CAAC, its market size will reach 2,000 billion yuan by 2030. The sector (行
业) has an industry chain that crosses many industries, such as AI and green energy. In the future, it will give rise
to new industries and professions and add to economic growth.

as he was carrying a lot of books. When I continued walking, I saw a group of kids run into Dan, knocking his

you can give. I’m going to tell you a story.” I just looked at Dan in amazement as he told the story of the first day
we met. He had planned to talk to his teachers about leaving this school and going to a different one. Dan talked
of how he had emptied his desk so his mom wouldn’t have to do it later and was carrying all of his books home.

On January 28th, 2025, a special performance called Yang BOT surprised audiences at the CCTV Spring
Festival Gala, China’s most-watched TV show. Directed by famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed
traditional Chinese yangko dance with modern robot technology.
In the performance, human-like robots were dressed in colorful costumes to do the yangko dance, a joyful
folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They spun (旋转) handkerchiefs (手帕) instantly and
formed creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree (宇 树 科 技 )、 a Chinese robotics
company. This was not Unitree’s first success. In 2021, their robot cows named “Ben Ben” (犇犇) danced as
backup for singer Andy Lau.
The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on stage.
Their strong joints (关节) helped them balance perfectly during fast steps. Zhang Yimou explained, “This dance
isn’t just fun, it shows how technology can bring new life to traditions.” Thanks to these innovations, the robots
won the hearts of millions. On social media, Robot Yangko trended quickly. Young viewers called it “cool”, while
older audiences loved its humor and festive spirit. As one fan said, “The Yang BOT program is a perfect mix of

According to a research, more than 130 billion pounds of uneaten (剩下的) food go to waste in Laura’s
country each year. That is about 30% of the yearly food supply (供应). It is a sad fact, especially when you
consider how many families and homeless people are in hunger.
When Laura saw her school dining hall throw away food that was not eaten at all every day, she came up
with an idea. She started a project to help her school dining hall to give away uneaten food to homeless shelters
(庇护所) in her community. In the past three years, the same project has spread to other schools and some fast

food restaurants throughout the city. The project is called Feed & Find, and has already fed thousands of
people in her city.
How does it work Through an app, Feed & Find matches local homeless shelters with school dining
halls and restaurants that have uneaten food to provide. When dining halls or restaurants have uneaten food left,
they can use the app to share the information about the food. A truck driver working for the project is then sent to
pick it up and take it to a shelter.
Pretty cool, right It’s not surprising that people in other cities have got in touch with Laura, hoping that
she could help develop similar projects for their communities.
Some people, however, have concerns about the safety of the uneaten food. They think such food may not
be clean enough. Still, this project is a clever way to help solve the problem of food waste and it helps those in
need.

It was a fine afternoon. As I was riding a bike home from my office as usual. I noticed a person cycling in
front of me, about 300 meters away. I could tell he was a little slower than me and I decided to catch up with him.
It was about one kilometer to go on the road before I had to turn off, so I started cycling faster and faster.
Every block, I was gaining on him just a little bit. In a few minutes, I was only about 100 meters behind
him. I got so excited that I really picked up speed, trying my best to push myself.
Finally, I made it. I passed him by and felt pretty good on the inside at that moment. I beat him, of course,
but he didn’t even know we were racing. He was still cycling slowly along the street.
And after riding past him, I was aware (意识到) I had missed my turn as a result of being so focused (专注

Some pilots are paid around 30,000 yuan per

training. For longer distances, 56 hours are needed. “I believe drones are the future and they have been used in
more than 100 scenarios (场景), so the future is promising,” said Dong, president of the company.

业) has an industry chain that crosses many industries, such as AI and green energy. In the future, it will give rise

They spun (旋转) handkerchiefs (手帕) instantly and

won the hearts of millions. On social media, Robot Yangko trended quickly. Young viewers called it “cool”, while

And after riding past him, I was aware (意识到) I had missed my turn as a result of being so focused (专注
的) on competing with him. I had gone almost six blocks further and had to turn around and go all the way back.
