Bethany is one of 100 winners (获胜者) of the first Super Amazing Neighbor Competition.
She won out of 46,000 nominees (候选人). What makes Bethany different from other nominees
It’s that Bethany shares love wherever she goes.
Bethany moved to her small community of just 17 neighbors four years ago. Not one to be
shy, she came to make friends with her neighbors at once. Many of them, she said, didn’t even
know each other. She decided to do something.
Bethany wanted to take more part in the school community, so she served lunch at different
primary schools. Bethany brought all the neighbors together by teaching Saturday morning
exercise classes. Neighbors from other neighborhoods even started to join in.
Kramer, Bethany’s friend and neighbor, said, “Bethany will often leave caring cards and
notes when a friend or neighbor doesn’t feel well. Her helpfulness and friendliness made quite an
impression (印象) on all us.”
“Bethany brings kindness and happiness to all. In four years she has brought our
neighborhood together, building up the community and making all of us better neighbors. Our
neighborhood is really a happier, healthier and more united place because of Bethany,” Kramer
added.
The key point of a Super Amazing Neighbor is offering help and sharing love. That’s what
Bethany and her husband Steve did. They are the first people to provide help whenever anyone
asks for help. They are 100 percent marvelous people.

Volunteering in your community gives you a chance to give back. You’ll feel proud that you
are volunteering your time, and a local organization will benefit, too. There are some tips you can
follow to help you do your volunteer jobs well.
You are supposed to choose a volunteer job first and pay attention to the volunteer job you
are interested in. Because you’re likely to be happier and volunteer longer at an organization that
supports a job you are interested in. And when thinking about where you want to volunteer,
considering your skills is more important. So you should find a volunteer job that can make full
use of your abilities or skills.
Then, treat the volunteer job like a real job or your study task. That means being serious.
Spend some time preparing for the interview as much as you would prepare for a job interview.
During your volunteering, you should take responsibility for everything you do. You may even
complete any needed training to help you volunteer well, such as learning some useful skills to
help others.
Being active and creative is also necessary. Both of the two traits (特质) will help you be a
great volunteer.
