China covers large areas and has a big population. Different living habits have always been an interesting
topic in the country. Recently, another difference between southern Chinese and northern Chinese became a hot
one: the way people shop at markets.
People from southern China say that they always buy what they need for just one or two meals. It is normal
for them to buy half of a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0.25 kilograms of beef at a time. However, one may
be laughed at if he does this in the north. Instead, buying vegetables and meat enough for a week is usual. Also,
you can buy a small amount (数量) of fruit, such as a single apple or pear, each time in the south. Shop owners
even help you peel and cut them. But shop owners in the north hardly offer such service. And many fruits are sold
in baskets and boxes.
The difference could be due to the different weather. Food can be kept for a long time in the north, as it is
usually cold and dry there. Many northern Chinese have the habit of storing food, especially for the long winter.
But the hot and wet weather in the south makes southern Chinese buy just enough food for one meal or one day,
or else the food may go bad.

decisions. So, the question is, “At what age do you really become an adult ” Well, people become adults at
different ages in different places.
In Australia, when young people turn 18, they can vote (选举), learn to drive a car, get married (结婚), join
the army and even buy their own houses. Even if they can do all these things, most Australians have to wait until
their 21st birthday to really celebrate becoming an adult. This is the traditional adult age in Australia, the USA

For more than two months, the world has been excited about a new AI model, DeepSeek-R1. It was
试卷第 1 页,共 3 页
developed by DeepSeek, a Chinese business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
The new AI came out on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat Open AI’s Chat GPT and became the top free
application (应用) in Apple’s App Store, reported Xinhua.
Its developer said that DeepSeek-R1 is as good at difficult tasks as other big models but needs less
computing power. It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million
yuan) to develop. That is way less than the hundreds of millions or even billions that US businesses have had to
spend on building similar AI models, a technology expert in the US, told Xinhua. DeepSeek-R1’s success largely
came from its special training method. Traditionally, AI is trained in two ways. One is Chain-of-Thought (思维
链), where AI learns to break problems into smaller, simpler steps. The other is Supervised Fine-Tuning (监督微
调), which works by showing AI lots of practice problems along with the right answers for it to find a pattern.
DeepSeek-R1, however, used Reinforcement Learning (强化学习) as the core method, Xinhua reported. In
RL, AI learns by trying different things. It gets rewards for correct actions and gets punished for mistakes. For
example, in a game, it gets points for picking up rubbish and loses points for breaking a glass. Over time, it works
out the best solution all by itself. This is how DeepSeek-R1 has grown to be a reasoning model, which are trained
to both think and show the process.
61.What does Paragraph 2 mainly say about DeepSeek-R1
A.It’s cheap. B.It’s popular. C.It’s new. D.It’s special.
62.What is one of the strong points of DeepSeek-R1 compared to other AI models
A.It’s cheaper to develop. B.It’s more creative than others.
C.It’s better at dealing with difficult tasks. D.It’s quicker at solving problems.
63.How does DeepSeek-R1 learn
A.By breaking problems into smaller steps.
B.By finding the right patterns in practice problems.
C.By trying different things to find the right way independently.
D.By following all kinds of orders from its creators.
64.What is the passage mainly about
A.The popularity of DeepSeek-R1. B.The challenges faced by DeepSeek-R1.
C.The differences between AI models. D.The introduction to DeepSeek-R1.

Some children cannot wait to grow up, because once you become an adult, you are free to make your own
This is the traditional adult age in Australia, the USA
and the UK.
Even though 21 is the traditional adult age in many English-speaking countries, the law (法律) nowadays is
different in each country. In the UK you can join the army at 16 and even get married at 16 if your parents allow.
Young people in the UK can learn to drive a car at 17, although they have to wait until they are 18 to vote.
In China, you can vote and learn to drive a car when you are 18, but if you want to get married, women
have to wait until they are 20 and men until they are 22. Chinese people celebrate important birthdays every 10
years—so when young people turn 20, they can wish a big party!
No matter what age you are, becoming an adult is really about learning how to be independent and
responsible (负责任的). Once you are finally able to take care of yourselves and make your own decisions, then
you can say that you are truly all grown-ups.

For more than two months, the world has been excited about a new AI model, DeepSeek-R1. It was
developed by DeepSeek, a Chinese business based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.
