叙事文
Nine years ago, I was the director of operations at a consumer products company in San Francisco. One Friday afternoon, I was called into a meeting that was already in progress, which turned out to be my exit interview. I was fired along with several others. I was 64 years old at the time. It wasn’t completely unexpected. I signed a pile of papers, gathered my personal belongings, and left to join my wife who was waiting for me at a nearby restaurant. Fast-forward several hours, we both got drunk.
So, 40 plus years of continuous employment for various companies was over. I had a good network, a good reputation—I thought I’d be just fine. I was an engineer in manufacturing and packaging. I had a good background. Retirement was simply not an option for me.
And then an idea began to take root, born from my concern for our environment. I wanted to build my own business, designing and manufacturing biodegradable packaging from waste. This is called clean technology, and it felt really meaningful to me. So now at the age of 66, with 40 years of experience, I became an entrepreneur for the very first time.
By handling issues like manufacturing, patents, partnerships, funding, etc, I was on the track soon. Five years later, our profits have doubled every year, and we have no debt. Right now I’m doing the most rewarding and meaningful work of my life. The Census Bureau says that by 2050, there will be 84 million seniors in this country. That’s an amazing number. That’s almost twice as many as we have today. Can you imagine how many first time entrepreneurs there will be among 84 million people And they will all have four decades of experience.

Problem: Unexpected, I ,at the age of 64, was fired, but I still didn’t want to retire.
Solution: 1、 Analyze reasons for my not choosing retirement (had a good network, a good reputation,
be just fine, be an engineer in manufacturing and packaging, had a good background )
2、Take advantage of my strengths to
build my own business, designing and manufacturing biodegradable packaging from waste, a really meaningful enterprise.

When Lisa was a little girl, she learned an important lesson from her father. Her father told her that when facing a problem, she should never give up. Instead she should try another solution. In the following years, Lisa always remembered her father’s words.
When Lisa was little, she dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. It was always her dream. But it was not an easy road. After leaving college, Lisa went to Paris with her designs in order to make her dream come true. In Paris, she tried to talk to famous designers and show them some of her designs, but none of them showed any interest.
Though Lisa was discouraged, she didn’t give up. One day, at a friend’s party, she was introduced to a young lady who was dressed in a beautiful knitted(编织的) sweater. It wasn’t a fancy color, but it did have very special stitches(针法). Lisa asked that lady if she knitted it herself. She said it was a work of a lady in Paris.
Lisa really loved the special stitches and wanted to include them in her designs. And then Lisa had an even braver idea. “Why not own a fashion store of my own That
way, I could design, make and sell my own clothes,” she thought. So she decided to begin with that kind of sweaters.
Lisa’s friend introduced her to Madam Dean who knitted that sweater. The lady was from Armenia and she learned to knit that kind of sweater from people in her country.
Lisa drew a picture of a sweater and asked Madam Dean to knit the sweater for her. Madam Dean agreed. One week later, Lisa got the sweater. The following day after Lisa received it, she wore it to a party in the fashion industry.
Lisa was very nervous but she was lucky. Not long after the party began, her sweater drew the attention of a store owner from New York. She wanted to order 40 such sweaters in two weeks. Lisa was really happy and accepted the order.

Evaluation: Her father’s words has an significant effect on her life and dream.
The next day, Lisa told the good news to Madam Dean. However, without hesitation , Madam Dean refused, honestly saying that she could only knit two sweaters in two weeks and it seemed impossible to finish the order. Hearing her words, Lisa felt her heart beating wildly and even burst into tears as if her life had been at an end. But she didn’t want to lose such a great opportunity, which was really significant for her to achieve her dream.
Lisa then remembered her father’s words. She fought back the tears and calmed down. “ I am bound to think of another solution.” she thought to herself . Suddenly , it occurred to her that she could turn to Dean for help, asking her to make efforts to find other skilled knitters in Paris or her country. Eventually ,they succeeded in finding about 20 more knitters to accomplish the order together . Without doubt, the sweaters satisfied the owner completely. With time going by, her fashion store and sweaters drew the attention of people who had passion for such breathtaking sweaters. She became a success and she attributed it to her father’s words.

The Water of Life
It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. Cows had stopped giving milk. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. It was a dry season that would bankrupt several farmers before it was through. Every day, my husband and his brothers would go about the tiring process of trying to get water to the farm. If we didn’t see some rain soon, we would lose everything.
It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle I have seen with my own eyes. I was in the kitchen making lunch for my husband and his brothers when I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. He wasn’t walking with the usual carefree abandon of a youth but with a serious purpose. I could only see his back. He was obviously walking with a great effort trying to be as still as possible. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again toward the house. I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever task he had been doing was completed.
Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful stride toward the woods. This activity went on for over an hour: walking carefully to the woods, and then running back to the house. Finally, my curiosity got the best of me. I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.
He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked, very careful not to spill the water he held. Maybe two or three tablespoons were held in his tiny hands. I sneaked closer as he went into the woods. Branches and thorns slapped his little face but he did not try to avoid them. He had a much greater purpose. As I leaned in to spy on him, I saw an amazing sight. A mother deer with a huge pair of deer horns appeared in front of him, with a baby fawn(幼鹿) lying on the dry ground. I almost screamed to get him away.
Paragraph 1
However, Billy walked right up to them. _____________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2
I witnessed the most beautiful heart working hard to save a life. ____________________________________________

Describe what I witnessed vividly
How did Billy feed the fawn
Cautiously, Billy crouched down by the weak fawn, holding the water in his cupped hands and slowly sending it to its mouth.
Anxiously yet gently, he knelt down beside the baby fawn, carefully stretched his arms, and sent the two or three tablespoons to its mouth.
He crouched gingerly in front of the fawn, stretching out his hands with the water in the palms. “Drink it!” he murmured.
What did the fawn do
The baby fawn lifted its head slowly and drank the water in his tiny hands.
The poor creature, apparently in desperate need of water, licked it up quickly with its shell-pink tongue.
The thirsty fawn drank the water greedily, and much to my surprise, the feeble creature struggled to its feet slowly.
What did the mother deer do
The mother deer lowered her head and licked my boy’s cheek gently, as if expressing gratitude.

参考范文
Para1:
However, Billy walked right up to them. Cautiously he knelt down by the weak baby fawn, seemingly familiar with the two creatures. The fawn suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion lifted its head up with great efforts and eagerly lapped up the water cupped in my beautiful boy’s hands. The mother deer stood by as if in guard. Not until the fawn licked the last drip of water did Billy move a little bit. I contained myself not to make a slightest sound, for fear of scaring them.
I witnessed the most beautiful heart working hard to save a life. With the water gone, Billy jumped to his feet and met my smiling eyes. Before he tried to explain, I strode to him and held him tight. As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops and more drops and more. I looked up at the sky. It was as if God, Himself, was weeping with pride. The rain that came that day was a miracle, saving our farm, just like my boy saved a life.
