“Think of your wind or blow to. Ailao Mountain”, this kind of mystery of the undeveloped area has a lot of traffic on the social platform, and it is also a common path for many wild scenic spots to become popular online in recent years.
Currently, authorities have only opened the outer areas of the Ailao Mountains to tourists, as much of the inner area remains a vast, untouched forest with potentially dangerous terrain. The region has gained popularity .on Chinese social media platforms, with content creators regularly sharing thrilling videos of their experience in arid around the reserve. At present, a large number of southward migratory (迁徙) birds have arrived in Yunnan, and the local government has begun to implement the bird ring record and epidemic source disease monitoring work in 2024.
An endangered bird, one of the most elusive (难以找到的) members of the heron family, was again recently spotted in mountains in Southwest China. The white-eared night heron is listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. It also enjoys top-level protection from the Chinese government.
Only around 1,000 such birds remain worldwide. Known as the “world’s most mysterious bird”, white-eared night herons are elusive and prefer dense forests. Improved local ecology is attracting more rare wildlife. The species, indigenous to China and; Vietnam, has now been seen in this reserve for three consecutive years.
A spotted adult bird weighing 594 grams and measuring 63.2 cm in length was recently captured in the reserve by a team of experts. “Bird palls could be heard nearby that night, indicating the presence of more than one such bird,” said Zhao Xuebing, a PhD student from Yunnan University, who participated in a bird-banding operation which was taking place when the sighting happened. The captured heron has since been released back into the wild, equipped with a satellite tracker to monitor its movements.

Browsing videos on TikTok or YouTube can be a hit-and-miss affair, with gems lurking (潜伏) amid mediocre efforts. But researchers have found that switching to another video, or skipping forwards and backwards in the same one, actually makes people more bored. Dr Katy Tam at the University of Toronto Scarborough, the lead author of the research, said boredom was closely linked to our focus. “We feel bored when there’s a gap between how engaged we are and how engaged we want to be,” she said. “When people keep switching through videos, they become less engaged with the videos and they are looking for something more interesting. This can lead to increased feelings of boredom.” The results appear to chime (一致) with other studies: as the team notes, previous research has suggested that while boredom relief is a driver for people to use social media or smartphones, the use of such technology appears to make the feeling worse.
Writing in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, Tam and colleagues report how they carried out seven experiments involving a total of more than 1,200 participants.
The first, involving 140 participants, revealed that people tended to switch between videos more when they rated the content more boring, while the second—an online survey involving 231 participants—suggested people thought having the option to skip through a video or switch to another would make viewing a video less boring.
However, the team’s following experiments suggest this is not the case. Data from a group of 166 undergraduates suggests participants felt more bored when allowed to skip about within a video than when they were not able to, while results from 159 undergraduates revealed they reported higher levels or boredom when given a collection of five-minute videos they could switch between, compared with a single 10-minute video.
“Our research shows that while people fast-forward or skip videos to avoid boredom, this behaviour can actually make them feel more bored,” she said. “Just as we pay for an immersive (沉浸式的) experience in a movie theatre, enjoyment often comes from immersing ourselves in videos rather than swiping through them.”
24. According to the text, what makes us get bored when we keep watching videos
A. The content of the videos.
B. Our attention.
C. The emotions of the person watching the videos.
D. The lives of people who watch videos.
25. When do people most want to watch videos
A. When people feel helpless in life. B. When they’re out of work.
C. When they feel terribly bored. D. When the family is not harmonious.
26. What do we learn from Tam and her colleagues’ experiments
A. When people find video content boring, they will switch videos more frequently.
B. Having the option to skip or switch to another video will make watching the video less boring.
C. Being able to casually watch a 5-minute video is less boring than watching a 10-minute video.
D. Watching video is leisure and should not be absorbed in it.
27. Why are we constantly twitching videos according to the text
A. To come up with a new idea.
B. To find videos that are useful to ourselves.
C. To rethink about something so bad in the past.
D. To wonder if the next video is more interesting.

Sun Yang, who returned to the competition after a gap of four and a half years, ranked first in the group and second in the initial round in 3 minutes 54.98 on the morning of the 25th. In the final, Sun Yang competed in the fifth lane. When he stood at the start of the game, the whole audience remained quiet, waiting for the start of the game with bated breath. After returning from a 51-mpnth suspension (禁赛), the 32-year-old showed his supremacy by leading the race from the first 200m, Sun, representing Zhejiang province, won his title in three minutes and 49.58 seconds.
“I could have done better,” Sun said after the competition. “Four years away from competition, and without intensive training, I do feel out-of-practice in controlling the tempo, and I need more competitions. But it’s a good start for my comeback, and I’m happy with this result.”
In June 2021, a panel of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that Sun Yang committed Anti-Doping Rule Violations during an unsuccessful attempt to collect blood and urine samples at his residence on September 4-5, 2018.

On May 28 this year, Sun Yang’s suspension of four years and three months ended. Sun Yang said on social media after the competition: “I want to sincerely thank myself for every road I have traveled. Those victories, failures, and setbacks taught me how to face the difficulties and challenges of life, and how to make myself stronger and more confident”.
In a post-match interview, Sun shared, “Over the past four years, I’ve experienced a journey from the peak to the valley and then gradually climbed my way back up.” While there is a noticeable gap compared to his peak period, Sun believed that this championship held profound significance for him.
Sun also revealed that throughout his more than four-year suspension, he independently financed his training, and injury treatments, and kept training without taking a single day off. “I don’t want to dwell on the past anymore because I’ve already emerged from the darkness,” Sun said, adding that he aimed to serve as a role model for the younger generation born in the 2000s and 2010s, hoping they will make significant contributions to Chinese men’ s swimming.

High ceilings in buildings linked to pooer exam result for students
New research has found a link between the height of ceilings in exam halls and the performance of students, which might sound a bit crazy, but makes more and more sense as you think about it.
While the shape of a room can’t make up for your lack of revision or make you any smarter than you were before, we do know that the environments we’re in have an effect on us. 36 The authors of the study, from the University of South Australia and Deakin University in Australia, suggest that big and open rooms, with high ceilings, are making it harder for students to focus on what’s in front of them.
A previous study from some of the same researchers, making use of brain mapping technology and virtual reality, had found a relationship between cognitive (认知的) ability and the perceived (感知的) size of a person’s surroundings. 37 “We wondered what the results would look like if we applied our lab findings to real-world dataset”, says environmental psychologist Isabella Bower from the University of South Australia.
The study analyzed exam results from 15,400 students over eight years and across three campuses, referencing their scores against what was expected based on the coursework they’d previously submitted. In exam rooms with elevated ceilings, students tended to underperform compared to those taking exams in rooms with a “standard” ceiling height. 38 Because there are other factors related to the environment to consider like the temperature or humidity inside the space, or even how many other students there are. “These spaces are often designed for purposes other than examinations, such as gymnasiums, exhibitions, events, and performances,” says Bower. “The key point is that large rooms with high ceilings seem to disadvantage students and we need to understand what brain mechanisms are at play, and whether this affects all students to the same degree.” 39 It’s clear though that environment matters and that we might not be giving students the best chance for success by holding exams in rooms that aren’t custom-built for the purpose.
“Examinations have been a key part of our education system for over 1,300 years, shaping students’ career paths and lives,” says educational psychologist Jaclyn Broadbent from Deakin University.
40 and it demonstrates (证明) the impact of architectural design on task performance.
A. The research has been published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology.
B. Here, the team wanted to do some real-world testing.
C. That includes our ability to concentrate and work on mental tasks.
D. However, the researchers are still not sure whether the actual size of the room plays a role.
E. A personal office or quiet corner can provide a more ideal environment for tasks that require intense concentration.
F. They also measured the participants' heart rate, breathing, and sweating.
G. Those are questions that future research can try to find out.

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday He must really be a nerd.” I had quite a weekend planned parties and a football game with my friend tomorrow afternoon, so I shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, “Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives.”
He looked at me and said, “ Hey thanks!” There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now.
We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me and my friends. He said yes. The more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him. And my friends thought the same of him. We agreed to go to school together on Monday.
Over the next several years, Kyle and I became best friends. Kyle was the valedictorian (优秀毕业生代表), he had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn’t me having to get up there and speak. I can see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, “Hey, big guy, you’ll be great!” He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. “Thanks,” he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. “Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach ... but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give him or her. I am going to tell you a story.” I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn’t have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home. He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. “Thankfully, I was saved, My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.”

Dear Mike,
I’m sorry to hear that you feel unhappy every day. If you wish to know how to get happiness, you must pay attention to the followings.
Firstly, health is the key to happiness. Only a strong man can enjoy the pleasure of life. Secondly, happiness consists in contentment. A man who is dissatisfied with his present condition is always in depression, Finally, keep a positive attitude and face life with optimism. Try to see the good in life, and believe that everything will get better. Happiness is not a distant thing but it exists in the things of daily life.
I hope everything goes well and look forward to your good news.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
Paragraph 1
Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, “Damn boy, you are going to build some serious muscles with this pile of books every day!” He just laughed and handed me half the books, an unnatural look on his face. “What a nerd,” I thought to myself. We walked while talking. He looked at me several times along the way, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he said nothing.
Paragraph 2
I heard the gasp go through the crowd. The crowds fell into silence, and then broke into loud applause. I looked at the handsome, popular boy who was telling his story about his weakest moment in shock. I glanced quickly at the crowd and saw his Mom and Dad looking at me and casting me the same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize its depth. Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gest are, you can change a person’s life.
听力部分录音
Text 1
M: I’d like to buy these four greeting cards. Are they ten yuan each
W: Three of them are. But that smaller one costs only half the price of the big one.
Text 2
W: We haven’t seen much of you lately in the company. Have you been away on business
M: No, I’ve been away on holiday. I’ve got a cousin in Edinburgh.
Text 3
W: Flight 331 is being announced. I’d better be on my way. Goodbye. Thanks for all your kind hospitality.
M: You’ re welcome. Happy landing.
Text 4
W: That’s a wonderful day for working in the garden.
M: Yes, I agree. But I want to play football today.
W: But you can’t. You promised to help me today.
M: OK, you’ re right. I’ll help you.
Text 5
M: The silver necklace is only $15 this week, the gold one is $ 30.
W: I’ll take the gold one, then, or on second thought, I’ll take the silver one. It’s half the price of the gold one and it matches my dress well.
Text 6
M: What a pretty picture, Samantha! That’s a cute puppy.
W: It’s not a puppy, Mr Patterson. It’s a dragon.
M: Oh, of course. And that’s the princess in the castle.
W: No, it’s not. That’s a train, not a castle. And the lady is buying a ticket.
M: I see. Of course it’s a train. I see the train tracks now.
W: The train is in a field. There aren’t any tracks around it. Don’t you see the corn plants They’ re just like the ones dad grows.
M: Oh, I’ see it now. Does your dad have dragons in his field
W: No, Mr Patterson, Aren’t you a teacher Dragons aren’t real. Mom tells me stories about them when she gets home from the post office every day.
Text 7
M: I love all the colors you used, Madeleine.
W: Thank you, Mr Cooper! I tried to make my own colors based on what you taught us in class yesterday. It wasn’t easy, though. Sometimes I added too much of one kind of paint or not enough of another kind.
M: Is that right
W: Yes, can you see it here I wanted to make purple, but I didn’t use quite enough blue. It turned out just kind of gray and boring.
M: Well, I think it turned out great anyway! This is part of the fun of painting—discovering what you can do with a little imagination, taking some risks, and trying to do new things.
W: Thanks for the encouragement.
M: Sometimes the most beautiful things result from artistic accidents. And I’d say the same is true of almost all interesting things.
W: Are you talking about painting now or life in general
M: Both!
W: Ha!
Text 8
W: Everyone seems to be on a diet. Have you noticed that
M: At least everyone is talking about it. A neighbor of mine is on a banana diet. She eats one banana for breakfast, one for lunch, and two for dinner.
W: That would be bad for her teeth and her health. Has she lost any weight
M: She doesn’t look any thinner. My sister eats eggs to lose weight, only eggs for breakfast, for lunch, and for dinner.
W: That’s bad for her heart! Something in eggs is good for losing weight, but too many eggs are bad for the heart.
M: I’ve read that too. Then what about a fish diet One of my cousins eats nothing but fish, even for breakfast!
W: That’s too expensive. The best way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. That’s why I’m on my way to the tennis court.
Text 9
M: How do you usually get to work in the morning
W: I try to ride my bike most of the time. Of course, when I’m running late, I take the subway.
M: I always seem to be five or ten minutes late for everything. I drive to work every day, so if the traffic is bad, I have to think of a new way to apologize to my boss for being late.
W: Does your boss yell at you if you’re late
M: No, not really. He knows that I live far away. I stay late whenever I don’t make it on time in the morning, and it probably helps that I earn a fair amount of money for the company year after year.
W: Have you ever considered moving into the city to be closer to your job
M: To be honest, I would rather, change jobs than houses! My wife loves our house, especially since she works from home. Our kids are in great schools. And on the weekends, there are a million things for us to do as a family.
W: It does sound nice. For me, though, I love living in the city. There are so many cultural activities, and I love not having to drive.
M: Yeah, driving is pretty stressful sometimes.
W: I think it’s also easier to live in the city when you don’t have kids. If I were a mom, I’d probably live closer to you.
M: Well, you and Timothy might want to think about getting started with that...
W: You sound just like my mother-in-law!
Text 10
This is the Lakewood Public Address System. This is not a test like the one we had last week. I repeat, this is not a test. The Western Hill Fire is spreading toward Lakewood much quicker than we had expected. Currently, we expect the fire, to come within twenty miles of Lakewood by six o’clock this evening. We, are therefore requiring all residents to leave this area immediately.
Springfield to the north, Point Cabina Station to the east, and Galveston to the south are all in the safe zone. It will take less than thirty minutes to drive to any of these towns. Take as many things as you can fit in your car, but do not delay. We have orders from the state police to make sure that the entire town of Lakewood is empty by five o’clock today. You have plenty of time to get all your family members, pets, and belongings together, so there is no need to panic. Stay calm, but get started as soon as possible.
