The bell rang, and I rushed to the library for Writing Club. Miss Lisa, our leader, announced that we would
share our stories with a critique partner. I knew the meaning of “critique” — giving helpful feedback. My partner
was Penny. I handed her my story, nervous about my spelling and grammar. Penny seemed worried, too, as she
gave me her story. I read it and was amazed—it was a heartwarming tale about a stray dog named Sunny who
saved a family from a flood.
“Wow, great story,” I told her. “I don’t have any suggestions. It’s perfect!”
“Yours too,” she said quietly in an unclear way. She didn’t even look at me as she passed mine back.
“OK, everyone, our time is up for today,” said Miss Lisa. “See you next week!”
Penny looked relieved. She jumped up and caught her backpack and hurried out of the library. I noticed a
book under the table. It must have fallen out of Penny’s bag. The title was Sunny the Brave.
I read the description on the back: In this heartwarming tale a dog named Sunny finds a home after saving a
family from a devastating flood.
That sounded to be heard. It was just like Penny’s story! It was longer, with some different words, but the
scenes were exactly the same. I couldn’t believe it. Penny had copied this idea!
Outside of the school, I noticed Penny sitting on a bench. I walked over.
Penny’s shoulders were slumped. She was crying!
All of a sudden, I wasn’t angry any more. I remembered that my job as her critique partner was to give helpful
feedback, not to make her feel bad. But what should I say
“I thought I would love writing club, but I’m terrible at it,” she said. “I never have a single idea for a story.”
“What if we worked on a story together ”
第 12页/共 24页
“Well, I have ideas, but my sentences aren’t always the best. I wish I could write perfectly like you do,” I said.
“I’d rather have ideas than write perfect sentences,” Penny said.
“I did have one new idea,” I said. “What if we worked on a story together I bet we could come up with
something great.”
“Can we do that ” she asked. She looked hopeful.
“Let’s talk to Miss Lisa,” I said. “She loves it when writers are creative.”
“Maybe we can write about two friends,” she said. “And one has a big problem.”
“And they work together to solve it,” I added.
“And everything ends up better than they could have imagined,” she said.
“Now that’s a great idea!” I said.
31. What does the underlined word “relieved” mean in Paragraph 5
A. Nervous. B. Relaxed C. Confident. D. Worried.

D. Because I wanted to give her helpful feedback.

Slouching, or walking, sitting or standing in a lazy way, is traditionally considered to be a “bad” posture (姿势)
—with some saying it will harm your spine (脊柱) and cause pain.
In the last 150 years or so, posture has had something to do with a person’s values, respectability and actions.
Upright posture has been considered “healthy”, “attractive” and “good” by different cultures. So it’s not difficult to
see then how slouching has come to be considered “bad” for us.
The great news is that in the past twenty years, a lot of careful studies have found that there’s no relationship
between slouching and spinal pain. Nothing can prove that people who slouch are more likely to experience back or
neck pain compared to non-slouchers. There are also no details to support that slouching while you are sitting at
your desk or are using your phone is harmful to the spine. Even the UK government’s latest guidance on working
with screens pays less attention to a perfect posture.
Instead, they stress the importance of adopting (采用) comfortable positions, changing your positions and
including regular breaks from your static posture throughout the day.
There is a pretty good reason why slouching doesn’t do harm to the spine, and that is because the spine is
designed to get used to different movements. In fact, the posture you adopt when walking or sitting probably isn’t
to blame (归咎于) as much as you might have been led to believe. Instead, it’s probably connected more to other
第 14页/共 24页
features of life—such as hw stressed or physically active you are and if you have had spinal pain before.
But there is one area where slouching may lead to a terrible influence. Slouching has been connected to poorer
information and memory recall, as well as worse mood when compared to sitting upright. These memory and mood
problems are shown to be rapidly improved when people move from slouching to upright posture.
Overall, the human spine is designed to be on the move, which is why movement is important to reducing
tiredness and discomfort.
34. What has traditionally been believed about slouching
A. It is a sign of confidence.
B. It is good for spinal health.
C. It is considered disrespectful and harmful.
D. It’s the best way to sit while using a computer.
35. What have recent studies found about the relationship between slouching and spinal pain
A. It is certain that slouching causes spinal pain.
B. There is no connection between slouching and spinal pain.
C. Slouching is worse for the spine than sitting upright.
D. People who slouch are more likely to have back pain.
36 The following sentence can best be put at the end of ________.
All of these tips will help reduce the risk of developing pain and muscle tiredness.
A Paragraph 3 B. Paragraph 4 C. Paragraph 5 D. Paragraph 6
37. What does the writer advise us to do

Each different part of China has its own special forms of traditional art. These usually try to show the things
that are important in life, such as love, beauty and family. The most common things, from paper to clay to bamboo,
are turned into objects of beauty.
According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sent them out to ask for
help when in trouble. Today, sky lanterns are used at festivals and other celebrations. They are made of bamboo
and covered with paper. When the lanterns are lit, they slowly rise into the air like small hot-air balloons for all to
see. They are seen as bright symbols of happiness and good wishes.
第 20页/共 24页
Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years. Paper cutting sounds very easy but it can be difficult to do.
The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and
things about Chinese history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of
wishes for good luck and a happy new year.
Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very real. The pieces are usually
cute children or lively characters from a Chinese fairy tale or historical story. The pieces are carefully shaped by
hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat.
They are then polished (抛光) and painted. It takes several weeks to complete everything. These small pieces of
clay art show the love that all Chinese people have for life and beauty.

I read the description on the back: In this heartwarming tale, a dog named Sunny finds a home after saving a
family from a devastating flood.
第 6页/共 12页
“And everything ends up better than they could have imagined ” she said.
“Now that’s a great idea!” I said.

Instead, it’s probably connected more to other
features of life—such as how stressed or physically active you are and if you have had spinal pain before.
