The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics were more than a sporting event. They were also a showcase (展示) for
science and technology. Let’s look at some.
A lot of different kinds of robots served visitors and athletes
during the Olympics. Some machines were used to prevent COVID-19.
Robots could also transport, clean, prepare and carry food to stop
human-to-human touch.
The National Speed Skating Oval (速滑场) is said to have “the
fastest ice” because 12 new Olympic records and one world record
were set there. The secret is a new ice-making technology. Liquid
carbon dioxide (液态二氧化碳) is put under the ice to keep
temperature changes on the ice surface within half a degree. That keeps
the ice flat. Flat ice is easier to skate on.
第 3页/共 16页
During the speed skating race, athletes can reach speeds of up to
18 meters per second. To capture (捕捉) every exciting moment of the
competition, Lie Bao was used for the event.
Lie Bao can record speeds of up to 25 meters per second. It
closely tracks (跟 踪) the athletes’ movements and captures different
scenes during speed skating.
Gu Ailing got a historic gold medal at the Beijing Winter
Olympics in the women’s freestyle skiing Big Air on Feb 8. She won
with her first 1620-four and a half full rotations (旋转) which have
been shown to people in the way of a “time slice”. The system shows

Many people love eagles (鹰) because they can fly very high into the blue sky. But did you know that an eagle
knows when a storm is coming long before it breaks
When the storm is coming, the eagle will fly high to the sky and wait for the winds to come. When the storm
hits, it opens its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages (肆虐)
below, the eagle is soaring above (在……上飞翔) it. The eagle does not run away from the storm. It simply uses
the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.
第 4页/共 16页
When the storms of life come upon us—and all of us will experience them—we can rise above them by setting
our minds and our belief toward life. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can make use. We must believe of
the great power deep in our hearts to lift us above them and that we can overcome all the storms. The winds of the
storm can bring sickness, sadness, failure and disappointment in our lives, but we can soar (翱翔) above the storm
by riding them.
Remember, it is not the burdens (负担) of life but how we deal with them.
24. Why do so many people love eagles
A. Because they can fly high into the sky. B. Because they can run away from the storm.
C. Because they are not afraid of people. D. Because they are strong.
25. What does the eagle do when the storm hits
A. It runs away from the storm. B. It uses the storm to lift it higher.
C. It stops the storm from coming. D. It tells others about the storm.
26. How can we rise above the storms of life
A. By hiding ourselves in a safe place. B. By setting our minds and our belief toward life.
C. By running away from them. D. By letting them overcome us.
27. What does the writer want to tell us
A. The storms of life can never bring us sadness, so we needn’t run away.
B. We should watch the eagle carefully to know when the storm will come.
C. We should be brave enough when we experience the storms of life.
D. We should learn to fly a plane in the storms of life.

A new rubbish sorting system (垃圾分类系统) has been put into use in Fangchengyuan Community in Beijing.
Local people not only sort their rubbish, but also put QR codes (二维码) on it.
“When the rubbish is collected and the codes are seen, I will get reward points to ex-change for small gifts and
even some money,” one of the local people told reporters, “It’s really creative and encouraging.”
China produces quite a lot of rubbish every year. Much of the rubbish is buried (填埋) in soil or burned
without being sorted. Landfills (填埋场) take up a lot of land and have a risk of polluting the soil and water nearby.
And burning rubbish can produce harmful gases. Through rubbish sorting, we can reduce the use of landfills and air
pollution.
What’s more, rubbish sorting saves resources, which could bring economic benefits (经济利益). For example,
第 5页/共 16页
a ton of waste paper can be reused to make about 850 kg of paper, saving 17 trees and 50 percent of water. Because
of their benefits, some countries have developed successfully sorting systems. Japan has a strict and detailed system.
When people throw away a water bottle, the cap, the wrapper (包装纸) and the bottle itself should be put into three
different bins.
In Australia, every family is provided with three rubbish bins—the red lid (盖子) bin for “general waste” like
food and plastic bags, the yellow lid bin for “recycling” like steel and glass, and the green lid bin for “green waste”
such as grass and leaves. On the streets, the bins are printed with pictures of the things that are allowed inside. It
makes recycling quite easy.
28. What will local people probably get if they put daily rubbish into the new system in Fangchengyuan
Community
A. Small gifts. B. A computer. C. Some money. D. Reward points.
29. Which paragraph discusses the economic benefits of rubbish sorting
A. Paragraph 2. B. Paragraph 3. C. Paragraph 4. D. Paragraph 5.
30. In Australia, which bin should you put food left after dinner in
A. The red lid bin. B. The green lid bin.
C. The black lid bin. D. The yellow lid bin.
31. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. In Japan, all kinds of things for recycling are printed on rubbish bins.
B. In Australia, the green lid bin is used for all kinds of recyclable wastes.
C. In Australia, much of the rubbish is buried in soil or burned without being sorted.
D. Japanese people cannot throw a bottle into a bin unless they move away the cap and the wrapper first.

The Internet has become an important part of our daily life. With the development of technology more and
more people are using the Internet to work, study, and communicate. However, just like any other thing, the
Internet has both advantages and disadvantages.
One of the biggest advantages of the Internet is the convenience it brings. We can easily access(获 取 )
information, such as news, knowledge, and entertainment, at any time and from any place. For example, students
can search for study materials online, and people can watch movies or listen to music on the Internet. Besides, the

第 6页/共 16页
through social media platforms like WeChat and QQ. It breaks down the barriers(屏障)of distance.
On the other hand, the Internet also has some disadvantages. One of the main problems is the spread of false
information. Some people may post untrue or misleading information on the Internet, which can cause confusion
and harm. Another problem is the negative influence on people's health. Spending too much time on the Internet,
especially on mobile devices, can cause eye-strain, neck pain, and other health problems. Moreover, online privacy
is also a big concern. Personal information can be easily leaked(泄露), which may put people in danger.
In conclusion, the Internet is a double-edged sword. We should make good use of its advantages and try to
avoid its disadvantages.
32. How can students use the Internet according to the passage
A. They can watch movies and listen to music.
B. They can post untrue information.
C. They can search for study materials.
D. They can chat with strangers all day.
33. What are the disadvantages of the Internet mentioned in the passage
A. The spread of false information, negative impact on health, and online privacy concerns.
B. The convenience it brings and the breakdown of distance barriers.
C. The easy access to information and the development of technology.
D. The ability to communicate with others and the availability of entertainment.
34. What does the underlined sentence “the Internet is a double-edged sword” mean
A. The Internet is very sharp.
B. The Internet has both good and bad sides.
C. The Internet is like a sword that can cut things.
D. The Internet is a tool for fighting.
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. The Internet is becoming more and more important.
B. We should use the Internet to work, study, and communicate.
C. The Internet has both advantages and disadvantages and we should make good use of it.
D. The Internet causes a lot of problems, so we should stop using it.

Dear teachers and fellow students,
Do you want to live in a beautiful world As we all know, we have only one earth and we depend on the
environment for things like clean air, water and food. So it’s our duty to take care of the environment.
To reach this goal, our government can make some laws to cut down the number of factories. Besides, there
are also some organizations. What they need is to continue to play their important role in educating the public and
helping people know the importance of environmental protection. Last but not least, as a member of our home, we
should do something to save it, too. For example, stop using cars. Walking to school is a good way to reduce
pollution. It’s also important to sort the rubbish and recycle it, which is helpful in turning waste into treasure. We
should plant trees every spring to protect the soil from being washed away. Remember to turn off the water taps
after finishing washing and turn off the lights when leaving the classroom.
In a word, I hope everyone can play a part in protecting the environment. Only when we form the good habit
of environmental protection can we make the earth more beautiful tomorrow.
Yours,
Sarah
