Module 10 On the radio 单元话题阅读理解
一、阅读理解
I'm Noah, and I'm 28 years old. I grew up in Germany. When I was little, I always enjoyed playing football with my friends. I joined my first football club when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and I've never stopped playing football since then.
Something important in my football journey happened after my second year at a football training school, when I had the chance to come to the US. I thought that I could receive a good education there and fought for my dream of a football career(事业) at the same time. After that, I started my career. If there is a night match, a football player needs to stay calm. However, I don't do anything special about it. I spend my day as usual. I may read a book, watch a movie, or study.
One of the most important moments in my career was in 2022, when our team won first place in a game. Everyone was surprised at it. But no team can win all the time. When you lose a game, you don't need to be sad but turn to do something harder. When you grow older, you may find playing games much more difficult. The key is to enjoy every moment on the football field.
1.What does Noah do before a night match
A.He practises playing football hard.
B.He spends the day with his friends.

D.He grew up in the US and received his education in Germany.
3.In which part of a newspaper can you see this article

Work is helpful to health. Scientists find that the hard-working people live longer than those who have no jobs. Studies show that the jobless are in poorer health than job-holders. The women who have jobs are healthier than housewives.
Why is work good for health It is because work keeps people busy away from feeling lonely. Researches show that people feel unhappy and worried when they have nothing to do. The happiest people are those who are busy. Many high achievers who love their jobs feel they are the happiest when they are working hard. They work as a bridge between their dream and reality, so they have energy every day. By working, people get to know each other. By taking part in all kinds of activities, they find friendship and warmth. This is helpful to health. The loss(丧失) of work means the loss of everything. It makes people down and it will cause more illnesses.
Besides, work makes one feel hopeful and proud. When a writer finishes his writing or a doctor successfully operates on a patient or a teacher sees his students grow, they are very happy.
From the above, we can come to a conclusion: the more you work, the happier and healthier you will be.

Few families in the United States do not have either a radio or a television set. Both of them have become a necessary part of our daily lives, keeping us filled with the news of the day, teaching us in many fields of interest, and making us happy with songs, dances and other performances.
Marconi, the Italian inventor, gave us the radio. He probably didn't know how much his great invention would have done for the world in the years to come. Radio had perhaps done as much as any other communication tool. Things of the world can be reported to people everywhere a few seconds after they happened. Travellers in out-of-the-way places, ships at sea, even astronauts around the earth are able to keep in touch with each other by radio.
Television is another important invention. It lets us see as well as hear the actor. Since its
appearance, TV has done a great deal in the daily lives of people everywhere. Many programmes are now televised in colour.
Perhaps the most modern invention is the "Telstar", a"star"moving around the earth. It makes it possible for the people all over the world to be closer than ever before. Now a family in Chicago can watch a motor car race in Italy on TV, a table tennis competition in Beijing or a volleyball match in Japan as these events are actually happening!

14.When the writer introduces Marconi in Paragraph 2, he means____.
A.he was just an Italian inventor
B.his invention has done much for the world
C.he reported much to people all over the world
D.he helped people travel a lot around the world
15.What is the use of a"Telstar"according to the passage
A.To receive and store information only.
B.To move around the earth just like the moon.
C.To give light onto the earth at night.
D.To help send out radio or TV information to the world.

The elephant was lying and fast asleep on its side. A few dogs started barking at it. The elephant woke up in a terrible anger: it ran after the dogs into the village where they ran for safety. That didn't stop the elephant. It destroyed a few houses and hurt several people. The villagers were scared and angry. Then someone suggested calling Parbati, the elephant princess.
Parbati Barua's father was a hunter of tigers and an elephant tamer(驯兽师). He taught Parbati to ride an elephant before she could even walk. He also taught her the dangerous art of the elephant round-up —— how to catch wild elephants.
Parbati hasn't always lived in the jungle (丛林). After a happy childhood hunting with her father, she was sent to a boarding school in the city. But Parbati never got used to being there and many years later she went back to her old life. "Life in the city is too boring. Catching elephants is an adventure (冒险) and the excitement can last for days after the chase," she says.
But Parbati doesn't catch elephants just for fun. "My work," she says,"is to rescue men from the elephants, and to keep the elephants safe from men." And this is exactly what Parbati has been doing for many years. Nowadays, the Indian elephant becomes angry: for many years, illegal(非法的) hunters have attacked it and its home in the jungle has been reduced to small pieces of land. It is now fighting back. "Everything happens for the best." Whenever things weren't going my way, my mother would say this to me.
After I finished college in 1932, I decided to find a job in radio as a sports announcer(广播员) . I went to Chicago and knocked at the door of every station. But unluckily, I got turned down every time.
In one station, a kind lady told me that big stations wouldn't hire (雇用) a person without any experience and suggested that I try my luck at smaller stations. While I was waiting for the elevator, I heard someone calling. It was MacArthur. "What was that you said about sports Do you know anything about football " Then he asked me to have a try. He was pleased with my performance, and he offered me a chance to work there.

"Just because you can't see something, that doesn't mean it's not there." This old saying is quite meaningful for British artist Willard Green. The items he creates are so tiny that most of them fit on the head of a pin (针). You can see them clearly through a microscope (显微镜).
At every one of his art shows, people always ask the same question, "▲"
The answer is "Very, very carefully." So carefully, in fact, that he actually slows his breath down and works in between breaths. Willard usually works patiently under a microscope using special tools that he creates. To paint his works, he uses the hair from a fly(苍蝇) as a paintbrush.
Creating these detailed works is a very long and difficult process, and it isn't always enjoyable. "It is a terrible dream when I start but a nice dream when I finish," he says. A single item can take at least several weeks to complete.
People have asked Willard why he chose to do something that needed effort and took time. When he was young, Willard was not a strong student. He had difficulty in reading and spelling words. Some kids used to call him a loser. This made him feel small, so working on little things helped him to feel big. The smaller his work got, the bigger he felt. A newspaper reporter said, "Though his works of art are small, Willard is a great artist!"
35.Why does the writer use the old saying to start the passage
A.To give us an example.
B.To show us it's important to see something.
C.To lead in Willard and his special work.
D.To introduce the tool of creating something small.

A.small B.bright C.special D.famous
37.Which is the best for the blank ▲ in Paragraph 2
A.How does he do it B.Why does he do it

38.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The suggestions for reporting an artist.
B.The steps of creating these detailed works.
C.The reasons for doing something difficult.
D.The difficulties in reading and spelling words.
