Earth Day is on April 22nd every year. Earth Day is a day to be remembered to take care of our planet, Earth.
We can take care of our planet by keeping it clean. We can keep Earth clean by following the rule of “reduce, reuse,
recycle”. Reduce means use less. We can reduce our use of things like water or gasoline. Reuse means use again,
rather than throw things away. We can reuse many things, such as plastic bags and boxes. Recycle means to make
something new from something old. We can keep Earth clean by recycling materials such as paper, wood and
plastic. If we take these materials to a recycling center, they can be used again in a different way. On Earth Day, we
remind ourselves and everyone on Earth that we must do these things. We must do these things every day, not just

Have you ever got a question in your mind that why we Chinese people are still using chopsticks Why don’t
第 4页/共 11页
we use fork and knife
Chopsticks are kitchen and eating utensils (用具). They have been used in all of the East Asia for over 2,000
years. They were first invented and used by the Chinese during the Zhou Dynasty. Chopsticks later spread to other
countries and regions across East, South and Southeast Asia. They are usually made of bamboo, plastic, wood or
stainless steel (不 锈 钢 ). But at first, chopsticks are not used as eating utensils. They were probably used for
cooking such as stirring the fire (捅火). Then people found it was convenient to eat by using chopsticks. Then
chopsticks began to be used as eating utensils during the Han Dynasty.
Why not use fork and knife In our mind, fork and knife are made of iron or steel. They are more similar to
weapons (武器). How could weapons be used on the eating tables And can you imagine how terrible it is to use
fork and knife while we are taking food out of hot pot Then chopsticks perfectly solve this problem. What’s more,
we believe in an idea of being simple. With the two sticks, we can do many things. Also, chopsticks contain the
principle (理念) of “Yin and Yang”. Besides, if you take a close look at the chopsticks, you will find the chopsticks
are round of one side and square of the other side. So the round side means the sky and the square side means the
earth. And when we hold chopsticks, our fingers are between the two sticks. That’s our understanding of the
relationship between man and the world.

My Learning Experience
Last summer, I joined a cooking class. At first, I thought it would be easy, but it was quite challenging. I had
to learn how to cut vegetables, follow recipes, and control the heat. Sometimes, I made mistakes and burned the
food. But I didn’t give up. I kept practicing and gradually got better.
Through this experience, I learned that learning is not just about books. It’s also about trying new things and
never giving up. I felt very proud when I could cook a delicious meal for my family. Cooking has not only
improved my skills but also brought me closer to my family. I realized that learning can happen anywhere and
anytime.
