first, then, finally)。
responsible)。
One day, ...”“What impressed me most
was...”)

For Niu, it has been a long journey since an earthquake struck her village in Sichuan

But the earthquake took place and Niu was buried. She was only saved three days later and lost
her right leg. “I struggled for quite a long time before putting on the prosthetic leg and could not

know that I must be brave to face the world,” she added. She then took many pictures and posted

On October 11, she received a surprise invitation from a sportswear brand, asking her to
model their products. Just as she was hesitating (犹豫), she recalled an encouraging note received
from a disabled person last year. The message says, “Although we are not perfect, we are still

words of 18-year-old Zheng Xiaoyun as he stood in front of the statue (雕像) of his dead mother
at Yunnan Normal University. Zheng’s mother He Zhihong lost her life at the age of 35 when a
terrible earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010. She was serving on a UN peacekeeping mission (维

me, and looked through her photos over and over again, the blank space got filled up, clear and

studies to follow his dream of being a police officer. His efforts paid off. In late July 2024, he
received an admissionletter from Yunnan Police College.

Li Yongzeng is a Chinese railway engineer. In his life, one thing always makes him feel
proud. It is helping build the Tanzania-Zambia Railway The railway is a symbol of
the China-Africa friendship. His grandson, Li Shangyi is following in his footsteps and doing his

500 villages to get satellite TVs in Malawi. Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the

“Dear mother, this is my admission letter. I got into a police college!” These were heartfelt
words of 18-year-old Zheng Xiaoyun as he stood in front of the statue (雕像) of his dead mother
at Yunnan Normal University. Zheng’s mother He Zhihong lost her life at the age of 35 when a
terrible earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010. She was serving on a UN peacekeeping mission (维
In 2007, He, a police officer, joined the police team that left for Haiti. She left behind
her one-year-old son. Before leaving, He wrote a letter to her son, “We are about to leave. What I
care about most is you, my dear son. Keep in mind that your mother is a UN peacekeeping
officer.” He wrote in her diary, “In this big world, I may be just like a small feather (羽毛). But
even so, I want this feather to carry the wish for peace.” This was her wish, and it also stands for
Chinese peacekeepers’ commitment (承 诺 ) to peace. Recalling his mother, Zheng said, “My
mother is more like ‘a blank space’ in my memory. But as I heard her story from people around
me, and looked through her photos over and over again, the blank space got filled up, clear and
lively.”
During high school, Zheng paid full attention to strict physical training as well as his
studies to follow his dream of being a police officer. His efforts paid off. In late July 2024, he
received an admissionletter from Yunnan Police College.
For Zheng, becoming a police officer stands for not only continuing his mother’s wish but

Li Yongzeng is a Chinese railway engineer. In his life, one thing always makes him feel
proud. It is helping build the Tanzania-Zambia Railway The railway is a symbol of
the China-Africa friendship. His grandson, Li Shangyi is following in his footsteps and doing his
part for the China-Africa friendship.
To build Tanzania-Zambia Railway, Li Yongzeng and 100 other workers left China for
Tanzania in December 1970. Building the Tanzania-Zambia Railway was not an easy thing. It
needed to cross mountains, valleys (山谷), rivers and forests in both Tanzania and Zambia. In
many areas, there were no people but there were many wild animals. The workers often worked as
they moved along the railway line. They could only live and eat outside.
The Tanzania-Zambia Railway is 1,860 kilometers long. It has 320 bridges, 22 tunnels (隧
道) and 147 stations along the line. It took five years to completo the rallway. China sent over
50,000 workers in total. The railway is now considered a monument to the brotherhood between
China and Africa.
In 2015, Li Shangyi went to work in Tanzania. During his time there he learned how
important China’s help is for T’anznnin and Zambin. In July 2017, Li Shangyi’s company planned
to help 10,000 African villages have satellite TVs And he personally needed to help
500 villages to get satellite TVs in Malawi. Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the
world. By the end of 2019, there were digiml TVs and other devices in 500 villages in Malawi.

There are ups and downs in life. Whatever the situation is, you shouldn’t lose your joy of
life. Life is for a limited (有限的) period only and no one knows how long he/she will live, so
why do you waste your precious (宝贵的) time in worrying about the things that are beyond (超
出) your control Be happy, and enjoy your life unconditionally (无条件地).
You enjoy good days but you also need to learn how to enjoy bad days, even enjoy your
pain. In 2018 when I was in Geneva, Switzerland, I suffered (遭受) a sudden heart attack. My
friends called an ambulance (救护车) and I was taken to hospital with much pain in my chest.
Before reaching the hospital, I was exhausted (筋疲力尽的) with pain and was going to lose
control of my emotions. Then the doctor in the ambulance said, “Don’t worry, you are in safe
hands.” His words took away all my pain because I started realizing that it was no time to worry
about pain and it’s time to be happy that my life was safe. At that time, I knew that in pain there is
a hidden joy and whoever sees the bright side can enjoy pain. My pain turned into a joy which
greatly helped me recover (恢复) more quickly than expected.
You not only enjoy success but you also need to learn to enjoy failure (失 败 ). Failure
provides you with a chance to benefit (受益) from so many choices you’ve made. Celebrating
failure will raise your morale and make you more powerful and determined (决定) to achieve
success. We all make mistakes in life but only the brave people not only laugh at their own
mistakes but also let other people laugh at them and then they reach success without any spiritual
A person who learns from mistakes and knows how to turn the bad situation
into his/her favor is the most wisest person and really enjoys his/her life.
