Tabby was an ancient Cocker Spaniel, probably 14 years old. What's more, she was blind and deaf.Tabby's chances at adoption seemed(3) at best. After all,we didn't have many adopters coming in asking,"Can you show me all of your really old dogs who are also(4) ?"We had all thought that Tabby would live out the rest of her life at the(5) .
One day a woman named Loretta came to the shelter. Her son,Gary,had(6) Tabby's picture and stories on the shelter's website at home. They were interested in meeting her!It was the only enquiry we ever received about Tabby. What could a young child possibly see in a 14﹣year﹣old dog who was both blind and deaf? Most boys would want a dog who could grow with them and(7) through grassy fields on summer days.Tabby would(8) be able to do that. But after meeting her,Loretta and Gary decided that she was the right dog for their family. They adopted Tabby!
If Tabby's story had simply ended with her(9) adoption,it would still have been something very special indeed.(10) ,it was what happened after her adoption that people might regard as "magic".Gary suffered from seizures (癫痫).Since Gary and Tabby met they became(11) .They did everything together. They became so "in tune"with one another that Tabby began to telegraph Gary's seizures before they occurred, giving his family a(n)(12) that one was about to strike. What's more,Gary seemed to be having fewer and fewer seizures since Tabby's(13) .
How could it be?Nobody could explain(14) Tabby did it.But those of us who were fortunate enough to know her and her family had(15) the magic, the kind that has its roots in love.

Social media has recently been added to smartphones, making it far more (4) than it originally was. This new way to easily be able to use social media has (5) children and teens to begin to use sites such as Facebook,Twitter, and Instagram frequently.Maturing teens and children are usually very timid when it (6) socializing with their families, which they sometimes (7) as "annoying".So, (8) do these kids use as a solution or an "escape'"?The answer is simple:social media.
However, parents tend to show(9) for their child and blame social media for (10) their attention.Parents of growing teens don't seem to (11) that. When they see their child using Twitter or Instagram they think that they are using it to get away from real world (12) .The truth, however,is that they are using it to receive information about what is (13) happening in the modern world.

【解答】(1)A.考查动词及语境理解。A.passed通过;B.broken打破;C.opened打开;D.locked锁。句意为:多年来,已经有5万多只动物通过收容所的大门。根据本空前一句话" In October,2003,I started my work at my local animal shelter's Adoption Department."(2003年十月,我在当地动物庇护所的收养部门工作)所以按照逻辑,应该是有超过五万的动物被领养,即通过了(passed)庇护所的大门,故选A项。
