From ancient times to today, poets have been seen as romantic, well-educated and full of feelings. Can you imagine that a miner, born in a mountain village with only a high school diploma(文凭), doing the hardest and most dangerous work in a mine, could write moving poems

His experience in the mines was the source of inspiration for his poems, making him stand out in modern Chinese literature. He has published several well-received books so far.
Although the heavy load(负担) of life weighed on him, Chen’s poetry has a feeling of hope and strength. He writes about labor, loving labor and living a life filled with love, reminding us that no matter how hard life gets, we shouldn’t forget our dreams. In 1879, Edison invented a bulb. It changed the world and made Edison rich and famous. In 2002, a man invented a kind of lighting system that does not use electricity. But the man who invented this system is neither rich nor famous and his invention is changing the lives of millions of people. This system called the Moser Lamp was the idea of Alfredo Moser. And it’s now bringing light to homes and small businesses in poor countries.
The Moser Lamp is made of a plastic bottle filled with water and some bleach(漂白剂). It is fixed into a round hole in the roof of a building so that the top part appears in the sun and the bottom part hangs down into the room. The sun shines, and the sunshine falls on the top part of the bottle and makes the water produce light, so the bottom of the bottle shines like an electric bulb. So its disadvantage is that it can only be used when there is sunshine.
This idea came up during a power cut. One day Moser and his friends talked about how to live without electricity. One suggested using a lens(透镜) to focus the sunshine and start a fire. If they didn’t have a lens, they could find an old plastic bottle with water. This would act as a lens. This idea came into Moser’s head. Almost by accident, he developed the lamp.
Now the Moser Lamp is used in several poor countries. Many people are benefiting from Moser’s invention. A great number of people admire what he has done!
23. What do we know about the Moser Lamp

A. Many hands make light work.
B. When you give roses, you feel happy, too.
C. Small things can sometimes have big meanings.
D. Among three people, there’s always something I can learn.

In warm places near the sea, there’re amazing trees
called mangroves(红树). These trees live in places where
most other trees can’t. They grow in ocean water. Some of
their roots(根) have a special skill: take in most of the salt
from the water that might hurt plants. Then they filter(过滤) the salt and their leaves take it out. Mangroves also grow roots from their branches(树枝). These roots are curly. Some of them are in the water and others are out, which helps keep the tree alive in the soft mud. The areas with many mangroves are called mangrove swamps(沼泽).
A swamp is a special place with water. In swamps, you can see many trees and bushes(灌木). Some people think mangrove forests are the same as swamps—scary and useless. Because there’s mud and other dangerous animals in them.
So, around the world, mangrove swamps were cleared: cut down for houses, shrimp farms, and vacation places. But at the same time, many people are working hard to protect them. They know how important and useful these wetlands are.
Mangrove trees stand like guards between the land and the sea. They keep the coastline safe from big waves during storms. They keep the ocean clean. Water that has chemicals from farms and factories goes into mangrove swamps. The tree roots clean the water by taking in bad things. The roots also collect mud from the water. The mud is made of small pieces of rock. When the mud gets more and more, it helps make new dry land. Many animals find food and choose to live here. The roots help protect small fish and shellfish. The rare(稀有的) Bengal tigers live in one of the biggest mangrove forests in the world—the Sundarbans, in Asia.
Mangrove forests are very important. They’re special wetlands. Let’s care for and protect them.
27. What features do roots of mangroves have
①They can take in salt. ②They’re curly.
③They all live in water. ④They help trees live in the mud.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④
28. Why were mangrove swamps cleared
A. Because they’re especially suitable for keeping shrimps.
B. Because they are good places for people to take vacations.
C. Because people need to cut down mangrove trees to build houses.
D. Because some people think they’re as scary and useless as swamps.
29. Which is NOT true according to Paragraph 4
A. The roots of mangroves can collect mud.
