A Bridge Linking Art and the Audience
According to a 2018 report, people aged between 16 and 24 make up about 15 percent of the population but only 10 percent of museum﹣goers.Similarly, people aged over 35 go half as much as you would expect from their population size.We have reached the point of recognising the disconnection between art and the audience but haven't yet determined how to bridge the gap.Two answers to tackling this challenge lie in telling a greater diversity of art histories and communicating these stories in more accessible ways.
In 2018,a radio program called Art Matters was started with the aim of discussing art from a pop﹣culture viewpoint with topics that would engage younger and more diverse audience. It offers an accessible pathway to art history with conversations on different topics.Art history is about storytelling;art content shines when there is an effort to bring audience along for the discussion.
More traditional institutions are paying attention.Recently the Getty Museum issued a social﹣media challenge for people to recreate paintings using items they had at home.Users displayed incredible creativity, and the museum was flooded with submissions. This reaction proves that there is a potential desire for the audience to engage with art topics if the format is appealing.Since many people feel intimidated and think that there's a base level of understanding required to join the conversation, the Getty initiative serves as a reminder that there are many pathways to engaging with it.
Another result of the Getty challenge was the exposure given to a diversity of artworks. The famous opera singer Peter Brathwaite, for example, made scores of attractive recreations highlighting centuries of black paintings. His efforts opposed the idea that there were not many historical paintings of black figures. It is extremely important that we do a better job of showing the complex and diverse stories that are represented in art.
Social media have offered a platform for people who have not traditionally had a seat at the table.Anyone can recognise a gap in the field and address it.Accounts have gathered tens of thousands of followers. They are the proof that there is hunger to hear these art histories, and these themes work brilliantly for museum programming.
But there is only so much that can be done without the museums and galleries changing meaningfully from within. We need to see a better balance of these stories represented in permanent collections. We also need a much wider diversity of people and interests represented on board.Ensuring that art﹣and writing and talking about art﹣is able to continue on the rising generation of storytellers, inside and outside of institutions, getting the funding and support they need to paint a brighter picture for the part.

9.Many years ago, people relied on the sun,the moon and stars to find their way around.Later, the compass was introduced. And now,we have the satellite navigation(卫星导航) system to guide us.The system uses groups of satellites to show the user's location. They send information to a receiver, such as a smartphone,to show us where we are.
The earliest built satellite navigation system is the Global Positioning System(GPS),which belongs to the U.S.Then there is Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System, the European Union's Galileo and China's own satellite navigation system,BeiDou.
On October 14,2017,an ARJ21﹣700 plane, which was the first domestically﹣produced jet equipped with the BeiDou navigation system, successfully completed a test flight. The results showed the performance of the system developed by China matches that of similar systems produced abroad, according to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China.
Since its introduction in 2000,the BeiDou navigation system has seen increasing numbers of applications linked to everyday life, from shared bikes to farming.
When it comes to shared bikes, smart locks that support BeiDou chips offer more accurate positioning than others, making it easier to find a bike.
Farmers can use BeiDou﹣enabled tractors to plow the soil and use unmanned aircraft with BeiDou to sow seeds, which can improve efficiency and make better use of resources.BeiDou's farming applications have spread from Heilongjiang Province to Beijing,Liaoning,Shanxi,Hubei and other regions across China.
With its many uses, the BeiDou navigation system is even playing a big role in the Belt and Road Initiative."To date, the BeiDou system has covered most parts of the Asia﹣Pacific region,as well as countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,"said Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the BeiDou system.
Today, there are more than 20 BeiDou satellites above our heads, and China plans to launch even more this year to expand the BeiDou network to better serve the Belt and Road Initiative.
"As BeiDou expands its overseas reach,it will be increasingly popular in the logistics(物流) industry,"said Miao Qianjun, secretary﹣general of the navigation services association."Ships, for example, can use it to position themselves while sailing across oceans to European countries,no longer limited to Southeast Asian regions in the near future."

The project called HI﹣SEAS is in the charge of Kim Binsted. She says this wild environment is as close to Mars as you can find on Earth.Because it is so high, the land is not warm or rich with plants, like the rest of Hawaii.
"You will see there is really no visible plant life or animal life. And you have got this wonderful volcanic material. "
Mauna Loa,2,500 metres above sea level,is geologically very similar to Olympus Mons on Mars and almost as tall as that Martian mountain. When measured from its base, deep in the ocean,Mauna Loa is the second largest mountain in our solar system, after the one on Mars.
The six﹣member HI﹣SEAS crew is mostly self﹣sufficient.Food and other supplies are brought to them. But the individuals bringing those supplies cannot communicate with volunteers inside the habitat,or base.
Kim Binsted says this experiment looks at how the astronauts interact,or get along with each other. "We study how well they work together, how we can keep them happy and supported, and not wanting to kill each other over these long durations. "
Crew members communicate with the outside world through e﹣mail and blogs. They also produce videos on the YouTube website.
"I am really enjoying this opportunity to live in this dome and pretend that I'm on Mars and get to learn all sorts of new skills, " one of them said.

11.Jeff Bezos, the world's wealthiest person, was just five when American astronauts stepped on the surface of the moon on July 20,1969.However,he's never forgotten the black﹣and﹣white footage from the historic moment.Since then, the moon has always been the center of his space dreams which are channeled through his spaceflight company,Blue Origin.
On May 9,2019,at a meeting held in Washington,DC,Bezos came one step closer to achieving his dream of sending people there, when he presented a model of a lander,Blue Moon, designed to carry both humans and goods to the satellite.
Though details of how Blue Moon will be sent to space remain unclear,Bezos is confident it'll be ready for its mission (使命) by 2024.He considers it unavoidable to settle in space given our ever﹣increasing population and fewer resources.Unlike those seeking a home on another planet,Bezos thinks humans will be living in orbital space settlements, which are similar to the International Space Station, except much bigger, each housing millions of people.Space taxis would make it easy for humans to travel between settlements.
But first we need to develop a cheaper way to travel between space and Earth.Bezos may have solved the problem partly by removing the biggest cost of spaceflights﹣single use rockets﹣with Blue Origin's reusable New Shepard rocket, which has made several trips to space and back since 2015.
To encourage future space dreamers, the company's recently built a free online club that will keep members informed of its progress and challenge them to find solutions to help humans and save earth. It invites students of all ages to draw or write how they imagine humans living and working in space on a self﹣addressed, stamped postcard and send it to the "Club for the Future" by July 20,2019.The first 10,000 postcards will be sent to space aboard the New Shepard rocket later this year. When it returns to Earth, the postcards, stamped "flown to space," will be returned to their owners.

My fellow peacekeepers are from many different countries including Pakistan,Bangladesh,Egypt,Rwanda and others. This is a good thing as it ensures that there are many different cultures and backgrounds all working towards the same goals. Our roles vary with many different tasks from one day to the next.We monitor cities and villages to ensure that no conflict is occurring, help bring supplies of food and medicine to those who need it and write reports on everything we do and see.Our role never involves violence against others. We are a barrier that can keep people in conflict apart.
As a woman,I am particularly valued by the United Nations Peacekeepers as I can act as a role model for many women and girls in the country. When they see my role and how others respect me,I hope they feel that they also deserve to be respected and treated equally to men.

5.(2024春 丰台区期中)
(1)What challenge is the author trying to tackle? C

B.Fewer and fewer young people go to museums.
C.Art appears too distant from common audience.
D.Adult audience has a different understanding of art.
