My name is Ann. I worked as a volunteer in 2013 because I wanted to do something to help others. I called
some charity shops (慈善商店) to ask if they needed volunteers. Although I didn’t mind where I volunteered. I
was glad that one of the Sue Ryder shops said yes. Sue Ryder was a charity very close to my heart because
volunteers from Sue Ryder once cared for my dad in the hospital.

didn’t need for the shops to sell. In this way Sue Ryder raised money to care for people with life-changing illness.
I always left the charity shop late because I knew how important the work of Sue Ryder was.
Another thing I enjoyed about volunteering was talking with other volunteers in the shop. They were

On winter nights, the wind usually blows strongly. Most of us stay inside our warm homes. Few of us think
about the homeless. These people have to sleep on the streets. Some of them are so poor that they have no money
to buy food.

a Spider-Man suit and gives food to the homeless he meets. He makes sure that these people won’t go hungry.

he finds a quiet alley (胡同) and puts on his “uniform”. After that, the “Spider-Man” starts handing his food out to
people in need. The man said, “I wear the Spider-Man suit in order to get attention (注意).” Without the suit, few
people took a second look at him while he was handing out food. When people see the “Spider-Man”, however,
they come over and ask what he is doing.

(23-24 八年级下·江苏南通·期中)An old saying goes “Laughter is the best medicine.” It’s true that
laughter is really good for our health. So, the next time you’re feeling stressed, try to laugh a lot, develop a sense
of humor and watch funny films.
The Comic Relief charity, an organization that helps people in need, uses laughter to raise money. Every two
years in spring, many English people put on a red nose, make a fool of themselves and do ”silly” things to make
themselves and others laugh.
Examples of silly things you can do are:
Invite friends round to your house to watch funny films. They have to pay to watch the films, those with the
most comfortable chairs pay more, and for food and drinks.
Hold a talent show at school and ask your friends and teachers to sing, dance or tell jokes. Sell tickets for the
show to the rest of the school.
Have a red nose party at your house. All your friends come dressed in red, including red nose, and you serve
red food and drinks. If they don’t wear red, they have to pay a fine.
Get the students in your school to make funny sculptures(雕塑) using all kinds of materials. Sell tickets to
your Red Nose Day exhibition and part of the money goes to Comic Relief.
The organization has helped people for more than 20 years. And how much have they collected since the first
Red Nose Day Over£600 million! The idea of Red Nose Day has travelled to other countries, too. In New

years in spring, many English people put on a red nose, make a fool of themselves and do ”silly” things to make
