A dandelion(蒲公英) is a wild plant which has yellow flowers. Dandelion seeds fly freely in the wind. Some are preparing to fly north. Others are going to fly east, south or west. Each is programmed to release(释放) on a wind coming from one direction. It resists(抵制) winds from all other directions.
How are dandelion seeds blown off by the wind “It depends on where they sit on the seed head, ” says Jena Shields. She’s a biophysicist in the US. The feathery seeds on the side facing a breeze(微风) will let go most easily. The others hold on tens to hundreds of times more tightly until the wind changes its direction.
How did the research start Shields’ teacher was watching his child play with dandelions. He noticed that the flowers’ seeds didn’t all come off the same way. Some released more easily than others, but it depended on how children blew on the seed heads. So Shields dreamed to study what was going on.
Dandelion seeds are sensitive(敏感的) to the wind direction, which helps them spread widely. “Each seed will be released most easily for winds from one direction, ” says Shields. That helps stop seeds from one head all going the same way. And it may explain why the plants are so successful at spreading. Once blown off a dandelion, a seed’s white umbrella-like tuft(一簇) carries it on the breeze that pulls it away.
“There is one exception: a strong wind can still send all the seeds flying in the same direction, ” Shields says. So a powerful wind can blow off all the seeds at once.

Every day, as he sat and thought about his life, he occasionally heard the sound of a coin or two dropping into his cup. One day, the noise was louder than usual. A little later, when he looked into the cup, he could hardly believe what he saw. At the bottom was a shining diamond ring.
Billy went straight to a jeweller’s(珠宝店) and to his surprise, he was offered $4, 000. Billy thought long and hard. Was this a mistake It was more money than he’d seen in a long time. Two days later, a young woman appeared while he was begging. She introduced herself as Sarah Darling and asked if he’d found anything unusual in his cup. 第八大题
Dear Peter,
I want to share my recent mountain climbing adventure with you. Last weekend, I went to Mount Tai with my family. It was a beautiful and challenging trip.
On our way up, we met a group of elderly hikers who were very experienced. They shared some useful tips with us on how to climb safely and enjoy the view. It was inspiring to see them so active and full of energy at their age.
I think this experience was amazing. The view from the top was breathtaking, and I felt a great sense of achievement. It was also a great way to spend time with my family and make new friends.
What about you Any adventures lately Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Li Hua
