The Animal Emergency Service (AES) — Jindalee was established to ensure veterinary (兽医的) attention is available to pets when general practices are not open. This means we are open all weekend, public holidays and overnight during the week, and closed each weekday morning at 8 am. when veterinary care is more widely available.
While your pet is in hospital at the AES, you can be assured that your pet is constantly taken care of by experienced vets and nurses.
There are 3 alternatives that may be appropriate — your vet will advise you which of these is most suitable for your pet:
Returning home: If your pet’s illness or injury has gotten better, or can be treated at home, you will be required to collect your pet before 8 am.
Transfer (转移) to your regular veterinarian: If your pet is stable, but still requires veterinary attention, you will need to transfer your pet to your regular general practice veterinarian. As most practices in this area open at 8 am, we ask that you be prepared to collect your pet between 7 am and 7:45 am.
Referral (转诊) for Specialist Care: If your pet requires the services of a specialist veterinarian, you may be referred to the Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS). An appointment with the appropriate specialist will be made for you as soon as possible, so we ask that you be prepared to attend the practice before 8 am.
If you are unsure of your pet’s requirements, please phone the AES before 12 am (midnight), the night before your pet is due to be discharged (准许离开).
In the morning, your pet is to be discharged from the care of the AES, please phone early in the morning (before 6:30 am) to make an appointment.

Malala Yousafzai is a young woman from Pakistan who has become a global symbol of courage and hope. Born in 1997 in the Swat Valley, Malala grew up in a region where the Taliban often prevented girls from attending school. Her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, was a teacher and a strong advocate for education. He encouraged Malala to speak out for her rights, even when it was dangerous to do so.
At the age of 11, Malala began writing a blog for the BBC under a false name. In her blog, she described the difficulties girls faced in getting an education under the Taliban’s rule. She wrote about how schools were being destroyed and how girls were forced to stay at home. Her writing gained international attention, and she became a voice for millions of girls who were denied their rights to learn.
In 2012, Mala’s life took a dramatic turn. While riding a school bus, she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman. The attack left her critically injured, and she was flown to the United Kingdom for treatment. After a long recovery, Malala became even more determined to fight for education. She refused to be silenced and continued to speak out for girls’ rights.
In 2014, Malala became the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Peace Prize. She shared the award with Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian activist fighting against child labor. Malala used her platform to call for global action to ensure every child has access to education. She also co-founded the Malala Fund, an organization dedicated to helping girls around the world go to school and reach their full potential.
Today, Malala is a student at Oxford University, where she continues to balance her studies with her activism. Her story reminds us that one person’s voice can inspire change, even in the face of great hardships. Olive (橄榄) oil has been a staple of kitchens worldwide for thousands of years.
According to Reuters, Spain is the largest producer of olive oil in the world. All that olive oil makes for a lot of byproducts. The country is left with over 400,000 tons of olive pits a year. Luckily, those pits aren’t wasted. Instead, they are turned into a biofuel. “Olives are like pigs: Nothing goes to waste,” Pablo Rodero, a project manager at Avebiom, a Spanish biomass association, told Reuters.
The push to use olive pits for energy came due to the poor crop yields and struggles of the olive oil industry over the last few years. Olive oil producers were looking for new ways to maximize the volume of the olives they grow. Now, the olive-pit-based fuel supplies energy to home boilers, industrial boilers, and more throughout the country.
Olive pits have also fueled airplanes. In November of 2022, the Olive Oil Times reported, the biofuel from olive pits was used to fuel 200 airplanes that flew out of Seville Airport. Cepsa, now called Moeveglobal, the biofuel producer that provided the aviation (飞行) fuel, said that it saved 200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions (排放) by using the biofuel.
Though environmental organizations like Greenpeace Spain say that biofuel should come second to electricity when it comes to clean energy, it is still preferable. This means that many energy companies, like Moeveglobal, have found it sensible to invest time, energy, and money into various biofuels, including the olive pit fuel.
The idea of using every bit of a product, whether a food product or otherwise, is part of a growing trend where humanity has come to realize their impact on the environment around them. This speaks to the idea that resources are limited and it depends on people to think creatively about the ways in which they can reduce waste.
32.Why did olive oil producers hope to use olive pits for energy
A.To make full use of the crop. B.To reduce energy consumption.
C.To control carbon emissions. D.To support local agriculture.
33.What can be learned about biofuels
A.They improve fuel efficiency. B.They are supported by the government.
C.They rank first as clean energy. D.They are eco-friendly.
34.What attitude do energy companies hold towards biofuels
A.Doubtful. B.Unclear. C.Favorable. D.Dismissive.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Future of Biofuels B.Olive Pits: From Waste to Energy
C.Spain’s Olive Oil Crisis D.Biofuels: A Challenge to Electricity

Following its move into podcasting (播客) two years ago, streaming platform Spotify started an audiobook (有声书) business. Though it has yet to start making its own recordings, last autumn it made a deal for 200,000 audiobooks to be available to its VIP users.
Not to be beaten, Amazon-owned Audible, which had been used to being the market leader, upped its game, hiring Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes to record multi-voice versions (版本 ) of Dickens’ novels Oliver Twist and David Copperfield, and announcing last month that it had reached an agreement for a recording of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, voiced by more than 100 actors and featuring a “groundbreaking new soundscape”.
Dramatised audiobooks are not an entirely new phenomenon. The use of multiple voices made them accessible to readers who might not have had the patience for the written versions. For example, George Saunders’s Lincoln in the Bardo, which surrounded the dead son of Abraham Lincoln with a group of spirit voices, became a great game of “spot the big name”.
Even single-voice readings can significantly change literature in which style is at the heart. Lucy Ellmann’s hit Ducks, Newburyport, is a case in point: a thousand-page stream of an Ohio woman’s thoughts, written in a single sentence. It unfolds on audio as a 45-hour monologue (独白), which is not the same thing at all, if only because an actor needs to breathe.
To say that audio versions are different does not mean they are not as good as printed texts, as brain scans (扫描) have shown that they excite the same parts of the brain. Additionally, listening to stories makes hearts beat stronger than watching them, according to a latest study. For people with dyslexia (阅读障碍), they can even be a lifeline — as they can be for those who do not have time for, or the habit of, reading books.
So while we celebrate what audiobooks have in common with their printed versions — both enable the brain to create its own pictures in a world where pre-produced images too often do all the work for us — we should also recognize that they are translations into a different medium, even when read by the authors themselves. What is certain is that there is room for both.
28.What strategy did Audible use to maintain its market leader position
Creating its own prize-winning audiobook content.
Focusing on single-voice audiobook productions.
Offering low-priced audiobooks to its new customers.
Inviting a well-known director to record classic novels.
29.How does the author present the effects of different versions of audiobooks
A.By giving examples. B.By sharing readers’ experiences.
C.By presenting data. D.By referring to experts’ words.
30.What is the purpose of the last but one paragraph
To show the advantages of audiobooks.
To compare audiobooks with printed texts.
To inform readers of findings about audiobooks.
To stress audiobooks’ value in treating dyslexia.
31.What is the author’s view on the future of audiobooks and printed texts
It depends on the choices of readers.
Both of them hold the future of reading.
Audiobook popularity is not expected to last.
Audiobooks will eventually replace printed texts.
第二节:(共5小题, 每小题2. 5分, 共12. 5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Don’t Let Personality Types Define You
Personality tests, especially the Myers-Briggs type indicator(MBT), are popular tools that many people use to better understand themselves and their relationships with others. MBTI sorts people into 16 different personality types based on four key categories. Although these tests can provide useful insights, it’s important not to let them define or limit you.
36 . But people are complex. Our personalities can change over time, depending on experiences and growth. What the MBTI test reveals is just a snapshot of one’s preferences, not a complete definition of who you are. For example, if the test labels you as an “introvert” (性格内向的人), you may feel tempted to avoid social communication because you think it’s not in your nature to be outgoing. But you might find that your ability to enjoy social events increases over time. The key is not to accept the label as an unchangeable fact. 37
Similarly, if you are categorized as a “thinking” type, it might lead you to believe that you are always rational 38 Emotional response is also an essential part of human nature, and embracing them can enhance your decision-making process and relationships.
Additionally, many people get caught up in the idea that their “type” limits their careers or personal choices. They might think, for instance, that an “introvert” would not be a good leader. 39 . Many introverts achieve success through careful listening and thoughtful decision-making. Don’t let de MBTI label stop you from pursuing opportunities that feel right for you.
Finally, one of the most important lessons we can learn from the MBTI is that we are not defined by one test or label. 40 . By focusing on our strengths and embracing the full complexity of our personalities, we can lead richer and more fulfilling lives. We are all more than the labels we receive.
The reality is quite different.
The test results should be seen as a guide, not a limitation.
The MBTI system provides a simple way to categorize individuals based on their preferences.
But there are countless examples of introverts excelling in these types of roles.
You should see it as a starting point for self-reflection and growth.
However, it’s essential to understand that both parts of the personality are valuable.
The MBTI system can sometimes prevent individuals from realizing their full potential.

This occurred on the day he was on business, leaving the child alone.
In order to catch the train, he hurried out without accompanying his child to breakfast. He was worried about the child all the way and upset, not knowing if he had his meal and cried. He kept phoning his child even when he arrived at the destination. But his child always sensibly told him not to worry about him. However, because he was worried and upset, he set foot on the way home after he hurriedly handled the affairs.
When he got home and saw the child had slept soundly, he sighed with relief. The journey made him tired out. When he was about to sleep, he was astonished to find there was an overturned (打翻的) bowl of soaked noodles under the quilt(棉被) . “This child!” Flying into a rage, he fiercely spanked (打屁股) his son sleeping soundly. “Why don’t you obey to Daddy You are so naughty, making the quilt dirty! “I haven’t . . . ” the child argued as he sobbed, “I’m not naughty. This . . . this is the supper for Daddy. ” It turned out that in order to meet the hour of Daddy’s return, the child soaked two bowls of noodles, one for himself, the other for Daddy.
