Looking for a taste of true Athenian life Koukaki, a southeast neighborhood of Athens, offers a perfect mix of historic bakeries, cafes, and bars. To fully appreciate it, a few friends and I recently went on an evening tour of Koukaki, under the expert guidance of Theodore.
Our adventure started with Pandora, one of the oldest bakeries in Koukaki, hidden on a narrow street close to the Acropolis. Famous for its heavenly pies, an essential part of the Greek diet, Pandora uses special homemade pastry and prepares them on-site daily. We tried the spinach and cheese and chicken pies, both delicious and a perfect start to our tour.
Next, we visited Pantopolion, a popular local shop that features genuine Greek food specialties and a wide variety of Greek drinks. We were served some Graveira cheese, cold cuts of smoked meat, olives, and the famous alcohol Mastiha.
Our third stop was Tavern Thomas, j restaurant that aims to bring back the flavors of Athens from the 1950s. Led by passionate head chef Dimitris Panayiotou, we were treated to some olive oil tasting with home-baked bread and traditional dishes like fava bean puree and zucchini balls. We washed it all down with an excellent local white wine, Malagousia. It was a pleasant experience.
Our tour ended with a sit-down dinner at Dyo Dekares Oka, one of the most comfortable restaurants in Athens. Run by three brothers, it feels more like a gathering of friends and family. We tasted a homemade moussaka, roasted eggplant, and specially- cooked chickpeas. Theodore then took us on a walk through Tsami Karatasou, one of the most beautiful streets in Athens, to admire its classical architecture. If you want to dig into Greek food culture, this tour is perfect. Remember to come hungry and skip lunch!

Aborigines who are native to Australia have a close connection to the land, waters and living things. Their values, identity, spiritual beliefs, and lifestyles have all been strongly influenced by the environment. This relationship with the natural world comes from their belief: All the elements of the universe, including humans, plants, animals, landforms and waterways as well as the sun, the moon and stars were all created by ancestral beings, and after the creation of the world, they live on in mountains, rivers and other natural features today.
Within their traditional societies, each clan(氏族) has a specific area of land, or the country, to which they are connected or belong. Each clan has built a unique body of knowledge based on its Country that is passed down through generations by the elders. The knowledge includes practices for managing the land and its resources, which are known as "caring for Country". Although these practices differ according to location, Aborigines share the belief that protecting resources is essential.
Traditionally, they would stay in an area only for a certain period of time to prevent excessive hunting, fishing or harvesting. They also moved from place to place to adapt to changes of the seasons, which can affect the availability of food sources.
Aborigines were hunters and gatherers. Men hunted mainly for large animals, such as kangaroos and big birds. Women and children hunted small animals, and collected fruits, honey, insects, eggs and plants.
Aborigines have a deep respect for nature. Over tens of thousands of years of living close to nature, they have also learned how to change the environment to meet their needs while ensuring that natural resources can continue to be available for future generations.
4. How do Aborigines manage their land and resources
A. By leaving the land untouched.
B. By engaging in “Country care” practices.
C. By selling resources to outsiders.
D. By emphasizing environmental changes.
5. Why did Aborigines traditionally move from place to place
A. To trade with other clans for food.
B. To explore new territories for settlement.
C. To avoid conflicts with other ethnic groups.
D. To adapt to seasonal changes and find food.
6. What can be inferred from the text about “bush medicine”?
A. It is no longer used in present times.
B. It is only used by a particular ethnic group.
C. It is more effective than modern medicine.
D. It is closely related to the natural environment.
7. What is the main purpose of the text
A. To illustrate the variety of wildlife in Australia.
B. To describe the daily activities of Aborigines.
C. To highlight Aborigines’ connection with nature.
D. To argue for the preservation of traditional hunting practices.

The interplay between literature and scientific research has been evident throughout history. At a surface level, literature often anticipates future scientific developments, and science, in turn, provides a rich source of inspiration for literary creation. However, the interaction between these two goes beyond mere creativity; it invites deeper thoughts on the ethical (道德的) and philosophical impacts of technological advancements.
For instance, science fiction works like Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot play a direct role in shaping and inspiring the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This book pictures a future where robots coexist with humans and are governed by the “Three Laws of Robotics”. These laws not only influence the real-world AI research but also become a cornerstone in the debate surrounding AI ethics. These fictional laws provide more than just a blueprint for scientists; they serve as a bridge, making complex technological issues easier for the public to grasp.
Yet, the influence of literature on science extends even further. Take Liu Cixin’s The Three-Body Problem as an example. The scientists in this fiction are not merely pioneers of scientific breakthroughs — they also represent the difficult choices and inner conflicts that humanity faces. Through their struggles, Liu presents a profound question: As science pushes us into new territory, are we truly prepared to bear the responsibility for the unforeseen impacts of technological advancements in the future
The true value of literature in relation to science is its ability to stir the pot. It not only question what we can achieve through science but also whether we should pursue these achievements. While science focuses on problem-solving and innovation, literature makes us consider the broader influence on nature and society, ensuring our progress is guided by wisdom, understanding, and humanity.
8. What do we know about I, Robot
A. It instructs scientists in detail. B. It boosts research on bridges.
C. It facilitates public access to science. D. It sets laws for robots in the real world.
9. Why does the author mention The Three-Body Problem
A. To point out the complexity of science.
B. To warn about the dangers of technology.
C. To show literature’s moral concerns about science.
D. To suggest literature’s direct influence on innovation.
10. What do the underlined words “stir the pot” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Explore and explain. B. Challenge and reflect.
C. Assume and examine. D. Educate and entertain.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Science: the Blueprint of Literature
B. Science: a Whisper in Literature’s Ear
C. Literature: a Critical Insight into Science
D. Literature: the Gateway to Scientific Ideas
D
A lot of my friends are deeply worried about artificial intelligence, while acknowledging the possible benefits. Many fears about AI are based on an underestimation of the human mind. Some people seem to believe that the mind is like a computer. It's all just information processing, algorithms (算法) all the way down, so of course machines are going to eventually overtake us.
This is a poor view of who we humans are. The Canadian scholar Michael Ignatieff expressed a much more accurate view of the human mind: "What we do is not processing. It is not computation. It is not data analysis. It is a human activity that is a complex combination of conscious and unconscious, logical and emotional reflection."
The human mind isn't just predicting the next word in a sentence; it developed to love and bond with others; to seek the kind of wisdom that is held in the body; to seek and create meaning. Al can copy human thought because it can take all the ideas that human beings have produced and produce them into strings of words or collections of images that make sense to us. But that doesn't mean the AI “mind” is like the human mind. The AI "mind ` lacks understanding, self-awareness, emotions, moral feelings and a unique worldview based on a lifetime of distinct and never to be repeated experiences.
AI is a different kind of intelligence, more powerful than us in some ways, but narrower. It's helping people handle boring tasks. It's probably going to be a fantastic tutor, which will transform education and help humans all around the world learn more. But AI's ultimate accomplishment will be to remind us who we are by revealing what it can't do. It will force us to double down on all the activities that make us distinctly human: taking care of each other, being a good teammate, reading deeply, exploring daringly, growing spiritually, finding like-minded soulmates and having a good time.
12. What does the author intend to emphasize by quoting Michae Ugnarieff
A, The potential threats of artificial intelligence,
B. The gradual replaceability of human thought.
C. The information processing of the human mind.
D. The unique nature of human mental activity.
13. How does the author develop the third paragraph
A. By giving an exact definition.
B. By making detailed contrasts.
C. By listing specific data.
D, By analyzing cause and effect,
14.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Can AI Think for Itself
B. Do We Need to Resist AI
C. Will AI Threaten Humanity
D. Is AI Age Welcome

I'd always been told to take care of my older brother, Brian, who was born weak and small I'd often tie his shoes or prepare another glass of water for him My mom saw my larger size and strong body as a sign that I was to be a kind of guardian angel(守护天使) for Brian. However, that was not the case.
One day our school sponsored a pumpkin-carving contest. First prize was S100, and I knew just how I would spend it. There was a brand-new game I was dying to own. So I decided the first place bonus definitely had to land in my pocket.
When I had to carve the perfect pumpkin I’d picked out, it dawned on me that with my big clumsy fingers I’d surely screw it up(搞砸). I thought of Brian's smaller, delicate hands and knew he was the man for the job. I immediately begged Brian. Unexpectedly, he asked for a cut. That was fifty-fifty Quickly doing the math in my head, I figured out even if I split (分摊) the first prize, I'd still have enough cash for the game. So I gave in to Brian's demands. With skillful hands Brian carved the perfect face: and now we had best pumpkin ever.
Then the unexpected happened: We came in second Unfortunately, second prize was only $50, and I needed every penny of that to buy the game. The day of the awards ceremony, the principal handed over the money to me because Brian was home, sick with cold.
If he really wanted to win, he would have been here today, I thought to myself, justifying stealing the cash from under poor Brian's runny nose. With hardly a thought, I ran to the store and bought my dream game. That night when Brian asked if we had won, I denied, afraid to look into his eyes.
The whole thing was never mentioned again until the day when Brian was packing for college. I played my usual role in helping him pack when I came across an old album filled with photos he had taken as the school photographer.

第一节
Dear Ben
I'm sorry to learn about your current trouble regarding the use of AI tools you’re your assignment. I can fully relate to your situation as I once faced similar temptations to manage heavy academic workloads. However, Al should never replace our own intellectual efforts.
As a scientist once said, “ Our intelligence is what makes us human, and AI is an extension of that quality.” While AI can assist in certain areas, over reliance on it undermines the essence of learning and compromises academic integrity. Therefore, I suggest you improve your work without solely depending on Al tools and have an open conversation with your teacher, clarifying your intentions and demonstrating your commitment to genuine learning.
Learning is not just about completing tasks but also about the process of acquiring knowledge. Wish you all the best.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
Paragraph 1:
I was enjoying the photos when one caught my eye. It was a picture of the pumpkin we had carved together. Underearth, Brian had written, “My first real win with my brother. Even if we didn't get first, it was a victory because we worked as a team." Seeing those words, a wave of guilt washed over me. I remembered how I had selfishly taken all the money and lied to him. I realized how much I had let him down. I tuned to Brian, ready to confess everything
Paragraph 2:
“You actually knew and didn't say anything ” I was shocked. Brian just smiled gently and said, “I always knew. But I also knew that you needed that game more than the money at that time. And I was proud of our teamwork, not the prize. I hoped one day you'd understand the real meaning of winning together." His words made me feel even more ashamed. I apologized sincerely, vowing to make it up to him. From then on, I truly understood my role as his guardian angel and the importance of true brotherhood.
