A
Have you ever put your old clothes into the donation box in your neighborhood If not, you
can do it right now because the clothes donation is becoming a trend (趋势) in Urumqi.
“From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes which I no longer wear. You know,
we teenagers are growing fast. I think it’s a good way to help others,” Lin Tao, a junior student,
says.
“I often pick out some of my clothes which are out of style after going shopping. Then I’ll
put them into the donation box,” Miss Li, a pretty young lady, says.
“That seems like a good idea. Some clothes in the box are quite new. People can either wear
them or use them to make things such as handbags and pencil cases,” Mrs. Wang, an old woman,
says. “Sometimes I also look through the box for some nice clothes.”
However, there are some problems along with the popularity of clothes donation. Recently,
a UTV reporter from Focus on the City has made a survey. Here are the results:
The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away
clothes. Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money instead of wearing
them.
Some communities set the donation box in unsuitable places. So there are few clothes in it.
Many clothes are too old and shabby (破烂的).
“What’s worse,” one of the staff members in a community added, “we quite often see
people throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We’ve tried to stop them several times but
failed. It has been the most serious problem since we set the box.”
In order to make the donation box work in an efficient way, the government is taking
action. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it’ll be more convenient for people in need
to take the clothes away.

B
Which do you prefer to use, a clothes dryer or a piece of clothesline Actually, both of them
can help you dry your clothes. But there is a war breaking out between clothes dryer supporters
and clothesline supporter.
Mike Reed, 37, is the kind of eco-conscious (有生态意识的) person who feeds his trees
with bathwater and reuses water drops from his air conditioners to water plants. His family uses a
clothesline. But on July 9, 2024, the HOA (房主协会) in Wake Forest, North Carolina, told him
that a dissatisfied neighbour had telephoned them about his clothesline. The Reeds paid no
attention to the warning and still dried their clothes on a line in the yard. “Many people say they
are environmentally friendly but they do nothing to protect the environment. In fact, I think
clothes dryer are a waste of energy and a main polluter of the environment,” says Reed.
North Carolina lawmakers are also saying that it’s not right to prevent people from using
clotheslines. But HOA and housing businesses believe that clotheslines are unpleasant to look at.
What’s more, clothesline drying reminds people of poor neighbourhoods. They worry that if
buyers think their future neighbours can’t even afford dryers, housing prices will fall.
Environmentalists say such worries are not necessary, and in view of global warming, that
idea needs to change. As they say, “The clothesline is beautiful. Hanging clothes outside should be
encouraged. We all have to do at least something to slow down the process of global warming.”
1.How does the writer prove that Mike Reed is an eco-conscious person

3.Why do HOA and housing businesses prevent people using clotheslines
① Clotheslines are not good-looking.
② Clotheslines may lead to global warming.
③ Clotheslines may cause a drop in housing prices.
④ Clotheslines are the main polluters of the environment.
A.①② B.②③ C.①③ D.②④
4.What is the best title for this passage
A.Views on Clotheslines. B.Clothes Drying Habits.
C.Environmental Problems. D.Beautiful Neighbourhoods.
C
“Put on your winter coat! You’ll catch a cold!” I don’t know how many times my mom said
this to me when I was a kid. I’d often go outside, even during cold winter months, wearing just a
light jacket.
Of course, the idea that cold weather can make you sick is only partly true. After all, the
things that really make you sick are bacteria (细菌) and viruses (病毒). But I have noticed that in
China, people always make sure to wear lots of clothes when it’s cold outside.
In the time that I’ve been here, I’ve been asked by strangers, especially elderly people,
about why I'm not wearing more clothing. They think I’m wearing too little during the winter. I
guess this might have something to do with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) beliefs (信仰).
There is a TCM term called yuanqi (元气), which refers to the basic energy that helps one’s body
work and stay healthy. Anything that unnecessarily consumes (消耗) this energy is unsuitable. If
you don’t wear enough clothing when it’s cold out, your body will have to spend extra energy to
keep you warm. Chinese people wear lots of clothing to stay warm and save energy.
But I still don’t like to wear too much clothing, even when it’s cold. I get hot very easily—I
even sweat during winter months if my coat is too warm. I haven’t gotten sick because of this yet,
so I don’t think I have too much to worry about.
1.According to the article, what are the things that really make you sick
A.Cold weather. B.People to wear more clothes.
C.bacteria and viruses. D.Traditional Chinese medicine beliefs.
2.Why do Chinese people wear more clothes in winter according to TCM beliefs
A.To show respect to elderly people. B.To save energy (yuanqi) for the body.
C.To follow fashion trends. D.To avoid being asked by strangers.
3.What does the writer usually wear in winter
A.A very warm coat. B.Just a light jacket.
C.No extra clothing. D.Clothes suggested by elderly people.
4.What is the main idea of the article
A.Cold weather is the main cause of illnesses.
B.Strangers should not comment on others' clothing.
C.Differences in staying warm between cultures and personal habits.
D.Traditional Chinese medicine is scientifically proven.

On March 6,2025, scientists in the USA made an exciting discovery. They created a special
animal called the Colossal Woolly Mouse by mixing DNA from modern mice and woolly
mammoths (猛 犸 象 ). This was done using gene-editing (基 因 编 辑 ) technology. What is
gene-editing then
Gene-editing helps scientists change parts of DNA.A tool called CRISPR-Cas9 acts like
“scissors” to cut and edit DNA.It can cut DNA at specific parts, remove unwanted genes, or add
new ones. It can remove bad genes, add new genes and help cure illness or improve crops.
Scientists hope this technology can one day bring back extinct animals like woolly mammoths and
dodos (渡渡鸟).
However this success also reminds us of a sad truth: We pollute air and water, destroy
forests, and hunt too much. We take away animals’ homes. Many animals in the old days can’t be
found in the earth now. While scientists spend years trying to save just one animal that has died
out, humans can harm thousands in a short time.
What should we do We must protect the animals we still have instead of only depending
on technology to fix problems. Every species is important for a healthy planet. Let’s act now
before it’s too late!
1.Which two kinds of animals’ DNA are used to make the Colossal Woolly Mouse
A.Modern mouse and dodo. B.Woolly mouse and elephant.
C.Dodo and woolly mouse. D.Modern mouse and woolly mammoth.
2.According to the passage, why do we use gene-editing technology
A.To create new planets. B.To increase air pollution.
C.To help cure illnesses. D.To destroy useless crops.
3.What is the main idea of the third paragraph
A.Genes’ work is really important.
B.Humans have done a lot to help animals.
C.Scientists’ efforts are useless in saving animals.
D.Many animals die out because of human activities.
4.What does the writer want to tell us
A.To call on people to protect animals.
B.To show the importance of learning science.
C.To share the ways of bringing back extinct animals.
D.To introduce the creation of Colossal Woolly Mouse.

Attention, everyone! Let’s hold our steps! Look up—there are 109 bright red pictures high
on the cliff (悬崖), 140 metres above the Zuojiang River! Now you’re enjoying the most famous
sight in Guangxi—Huashan Rock Art. This is one of the world’s largest rock painting groups.
Today, we’ll travel back through 2,000 years of history to explore the amazing rock art. It took the
ancient Luo Yue people more than 700 years to complete such an amazing work.
Let’s take a closer look. As you can see, these paintings show people, animals and things
used in festival celebrations. See here Some pictures have a central human figure (画像) shaped
like a frog—an animal usually lives near the water, with a group of people around him. Sometimes
they hold knives or swords, and other times they carry drums while wearing tiger-shaped hats.
Anyway, most human figures have their arms raised high on both sides just like frogs. Why so
many frogs The ancient Luo Yue people might have thought frogs could call rain to water their
fields!
Here’s an amazing fact: after 2,000 years, the red paint still looks fresh! How did this
happen Scientists discovered that ancient artists mixed their paint with special plant juices, like
nature’s secret recipe, to keep the color last over time.
However, up to now, many questions still don’t have clear answers. How did ancient people
“fly” through the air to paint on high cliffs What do the paintings really show For the second
question, there are different opinions. Some say that people are celebrating a fruitful season, while
others think they’re showing they have won a fight against enemies.
Now it’s free time. You can stay here to explore more or take photos.

As a top world carmaker, Tesla is leading the way in self-driving technology. The
company’s CEO, Elon Musk, has promised an exciting future where Teslas drive themselves.
Much of this promise is focused on Autopilot, Tesla’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).
It is designed to make driving safer.
Autopilot officially came out in 2015. It can reduce the work drivers need to do at the
wheel. Today, the system becomes standard on every new Tesla. It includes features like Autosteer
(自动驾驶) and Traffic-Aware Cruise Control (交通感知巡航控制), which together help a car
match its speed to that of nearby traffic and stay within a clearly marked lane (车道).
The Autopilot system requires special tools to collect and process data (数据). The first
tool, named “Hardware 1”, used a camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors (超 声 波 传 感 器 ) to
provide driving help. In 2016, “Hardware 2” was introduced. It was improved to include eight
cameras, a radar sensor and 12 ultrasonic sensors. With better tools, Tesla introduced Enhanced
(增强版) Autopilot later that same year. It has new features that help cars to change lanes and park
by themselves.
In 2017, Tesla began selling a more advanced model of Autopilot, calling it “Full
Self-Driving” (FSD). In addition to the features of Basic and Enhanced Autopilot, FSD can see
and stop for traffic lights. However, both Autopilot and FSD require active driver control and do
not make the car fully autonomous .
Another major development came in October 2024, when Musk showed the company’s
new robotaxi, called the “Cybercab”. Expected to be available before 2027, Cybercab will have no
steering wheel (方向盘). “You could fall asleep and wake up at your destination ,” said Musk at
the company event. However, experts aren’t sure if these Tesla taxis will be on the roads soon
because there are still many problems to solve and safety tests to pass.
1.Why did Tesla design Autopilot
A.To make driving safer.
B.To test new driving technology.
C.To collect information about self-driving cars.
D.To let self-driving cars run at a fixed speed.
2.When did Tesla introduce Enhanced Autopilot
A.In 2015. B.In 2016. C.In 2017. D.In 2018.
3.What can Enhanced Autopilot help cars do
A.Drive by themselves at night. B.Stay in a marked lane.
C.Change lanes and park by themselves. D.Use radar and sensors to drive.
4.How is FSD different from Basic and Enhanced Autopilot
A.It needs active driver control. B.It can stop for traffic lights.
C.It has a feature called Autosteer. D.It makes the car fully self-driving.

Sometimes, when you’re doing something boring, a familiar song may suddenly come into
your head. But there’s no music playing around you—it’s just in your mind, and it won’t leave!
This happens to everyone and it is called an earworm. It means a song or melody that keeps
repeating in one’s mind.
Either easy or hard tasks can make a song get stuck in your head. This happens when you’re
not really paying attention to what you’re doing. Maybe you’re bored because the task is too easy,
or maybe you’re feeling too much stress because it’s too hard. There are only a few tasks with just
the right amount of challenge to keep you focused. If you’re not doing one of those tasks, your
mind might start to wander (走神) and think about other things. Then suddenly, you have a song
playing over and over in your head.
What do all these earworms have in common They often have a fast beat and are easy to
sing. Besides, a song will be more likely to become an earworm if it is recently released (发行).
That’s because after that you can always hear it on the radio, in stores, or from other people’s cars
as they drive by.
We can do many things to get rid of (摆脱) earworms. One is to listen to the whole song. If
you can play music, you could try playing the song yourself. You can also focus on something
else, like spending time with friends or doing a puzzle. Listening to a different song can help, too.
A strange but effective solution is chewing gum (嚼口香糖). But remember, don’t try too hard to
forget the song. Thinking about it a lot will just keep it fresh in your mind!

In order to make the donation box work in an efficient way, the government is taking
action. Clothes donation will be better-organized and it’ll be more convenient for people in need
to take the clothes away.

and clothesline supporter.

Thinking about it a lot will just keep it fresh in your mind!

became a huge hit in Chinese cinemas. By February 3rd, it had made over 4 billion yuan (about
$550 million), breaking old records.
This film’s success changed how cinemas worked in the whole country. To meet the high
demand, theaters opened 1,000 - seat screening halls for the first time. Some theaters even had
nearly 100 showings a day. Tickets were sold out quickly both on the Internet and at ticket offices.
“Ne Zha 2” tells old stories in a new and interesting way. Popular characters like Ao Bing
attract many young people. The movie’s theme, “fighting against fate”, makes teen-agers under
pressure from school, family, or society feel inspired. A college student said after watching it, “It’
s not just about gods and demons. It’s about how we should fight for our future.”
Moreover, the film explores new relationships between characters. Ne Zha and AoBing
were enemies before, but now they have both competition and friendship. It sets a new standard
for Chinese animation (动画) with over 1,900 well—made special effect shots. A-mazing scenes
show that Chinese animation can be as great as that of global big names like Disney or Studio
Ghibli. “Ne Zha 2” not only makes a lot of money but also connects ancient culture with modern
creativity. The spirit of Ne Zha’s challenging old rules— not only entertains but encourages
young people to think critically and chase their dreams.
