When we build a new house, we often buy something beautiful to decorate it. The painting is always the first thing we want to buy. People from all over the world mostly like western paintings. But as a Chinese, I think Chinese paintings are the best.
Chinese paintings are one of the oldest kinds of paintings in the world. Chinese artists first started painting over two thousand years ago, and painters in China are still using many of the same ways today.
Chinese painters usually paint natural scenes (自然景观), animals or people. We can only see buildings in Chinese paintings when they make up a small part of a natural scene.
There are two kinds of traditional Chinese paintings. The first one is the gongbi style. People need a lot of time to make this style of painting, because they paint everything in great detail (细节). This style often uses a lot of colour. Long ago, most painters in China used the gongbi style.
The second style of Chinese painting is the ink-wash painting (水墨画). Painters usually finish ink-wash paintings very quickly and they may not always have much colour. Ink-wash paintings have fewer details, because the painter is trying to show something with just a few brushstrokes (笔画). Most ink-wash artists do not work as painters. They paint as a hobby. But a good ink-wash artist can still become famous.

Living and dealing with kids can be a hard job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even harder.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you will drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn’t solve anything.
Communication begins with the care of another. It means that you can’t just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say “Hi”, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it’s just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you’ll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.
Here is an example: One night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn’t feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with her. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren’t as mad and let the incident munication is the key factor here. If Sophie’s parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn’t a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie’s, telling the other person how you feel- listening is the key factor to communication.
38.In the writer’s opinion, dealing with parents is ________ than with children.
A.much easier B.more careless C.more difficult D.more interesting
39.The underlined phrase “drift apart” in Paragraph 2 means ________.
A.合群 B.漂流 C.疏远 D.满意
40.Sophie’s example here is used to show that ________.
A.Sophie is very polite to her parents
B.It’s OK to come back home late at night.
C.Sophie’s parents are very kind and listen to her
D.Communication is the way to solve misunderstanding
41.All the following are true EXCEPT (除了) “________”.
A.Communication is a two-way deal
B.If you are not able to communicate, walk away
C.It is better to say “Hi” to others than saying nothing
D.If you don’t agree with others, you’d better let them know
D
Years ago, the UK government discussed changing the starting time of junior and senior schools in the UK to 10 a.m. It was a result of an online discussion set up by a teenager named Hannah Kidner.
Hannah believes that teenagers are getting too tired as a result of having to wake up for school that starts as early as 8:30 a.m. She also believes that if schools allow teenagers a later starting time, they will see greater performance among the pupils and finally better exam results. But it isn’t just about improving grades. Many are worried that not enough sleep is also causing a growing number of health problems in young people, especially when it comes to mental problems.
But a later school starting time isn’t just the wish of a teen who would like to stay in bed for longer every morning. Some scientific researches show the same opinion. A long-term study at a British university found that by allowing students to start school an hour and a half later, there was more than a 50 percent drop in the number of students who were getting ill.
While many people welcome the idea to start school later, some other people believed there are lots of other reasons to explain a group of over-tired teens. Many join in the discussion online, listing reasons such as soft-parenting and a late-night gaming habit as the real causes for teenage tiredness.
The final result of the discussion, however, was bad news for Hannah, as it allows all schools to decide when they open and close. This means that Hannah still has the chance to try to convince (说服) the headteacher of her school to set a 10 a.m. start, but without enough back-up (支撑) it would seem impossible that a change will happen.
42.What made the UK government discuss the school starting time
A.A study on student tiredness.
B.An online talk started by a teenager.
C.A report about sleeping time.
D.A research on students’ study stress.
43.Which of the following might Hannah agree with
A.Health problems are not a worry for teenagers.
B.A later school start time would be bad for grades.
C.School time has nothing to do with exam results.
D.Teenagers are too tired because of early school time.
44.Why does the writer mention the scientific research in Paragraph 3
A.To stop the meaningless discussion.
B.To back up Hannah’s idea with facts.
C.To show lots of students are getting ill.
D.To tell the importance of school rules.
45.What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph
A.Hannah has given up trying to convince the headteacher.
B.It is difficult for Hannah to change the school starting time.
C.Hannah accepts the discussion result with great satisfaction.
D.Schools can’t decide when to start or end classes themselves.

Free﹣time Activities Help Me Learn a Lot
In my free time, I often volunteer outside. I think volunteering is not only to help others, but also to help myself, because each of us needs help. I often go to the nursing home to help the elderly, pick up garbage in the park and give out leaflets to let people care for the environment.
I still remember my experience of being a volunteer last year. I joined a group to help the neighbors throw out their rubbish. Every day, I got up very early and collected the rubbish from door to door. At first, I found it hard to get up early. It was very tiring, but I did it for two weeks. I got a thank-you letter from the neighbors in the end.
I feel proud of being a volunteer, which means I am able to offer help. What is more, I am also thankful for the people who have helped me.
