When I was six, a new family moved into the house next door. There was a girl, Frances, who was about my age. We became best friends soon. I was too young to notice what was really going on in her life, but my mother did.
Mom noticed that Frances never invited anyone into the rooms they lived in. Her mother went off to work very early in the morning and came back looking very tired. And her two older brothers wore dirty clothes and were never at home. Frances was always hungry, and her clothes were often too small.
Mom never mentioned anything to me. But she once asked, “Would you mind if I give Frances some of your clothes ” I agreed. Frances seemed very thrilled.
Mom began to spend more time with Frances and me. She and I had always done kitchen jobs together, but now the three of us were making biscuits and washing up together. Frances was always willing to help, as long as Mom was there. And sometimes they would just sit together and talk while I was off doing something else.
That routine (日常事物) continued until we were both teenagers. But then her mother decided they were moving back to Ireland. We promised to write to each other.
One day, my mom called to say that a letter from Frances had arrived. “When I was four, my father died. My mother tried to make money. She ignored me. Your mom saved me. Without her love and attention, I would never have survived (渡过难关) my childhood. I have used your mother’s example as my guide to care for people around me.”
My mother taught me many things, but this was her most valuable lesson. Watching her example and seeing the life-changing results were powerful. We will never know how or when our acts of kindness will influence others, but it’s always better to try.

Every school has students who stand out for their abilities and their eagerness (渴望) to learn. In Mexico, a school created a program to work with them. In 2019. both teachers Lotta Andersson and John Rennie got the idea to provide learning opportunities for students with a desire for knowledge. They are English coordinators (协调员) in the school. “We want to have a program to encourage students who really have the abilities and the interests to learn more and continue accepting challenges,” Andersson said during a recent interview.
Students in the program, which was called Learning Challenges, met with the teachers about once a month. Andersson and Rennie would help us choose research topics. We then worked with the teachers to find books, interview subjects and Internet sources, While in Learning Challenges, I gave statements on European culture and the fashion industry.
When asked what skills students had formed in the program, which ended in June 2020 because of the limits of a common disease. Andersson said, “They had learned to ask questions, be more open-minded and see things from different angles (角度). Also, they mastered the skills-reflecting more, acting actively, and learning not to put limits on themselves.”
A student, Yihane Abed, carried out research on the sun, the moon, stars, planets, etc, while in Learning Challenges. “The skills I developed were teamwork and the ways to do research and give a good presentation,” she said.
Andersson and Rennie continue to help students pursue their love of learning. “The program doesn’t exist formally, but as an important part of the culture at school, it is still needed,” Andersson said. “There is much more difference, not only for students who need extra help, but also for those who are higher achievers.”

Inside an amazing show center in Beijing, a two-armed robot is busy making sugar paintings. Its smooth movements attract a crowd of visitors. The robot is acting as a “skilled worker” of this traditional art of Beijing. But the machine also acts as both a witness (见证) to and a guide for the increasing mix of fields of knowledge that come from different places. This mix challenges the limits of time and geography.
At the show, hundreds of experts from home and abroad are considering the relationship between cultural heritage and new technologies. For many, the promotion of traditional culture is one of the areas in which technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) can play a key role.
“AI helps pass on culture,” said Guo Chunchao, head of Tencent’s Hunyuan Text to 3D project. Yu Minjing, a teacher at Tianjin University, agreed with him. She led her team to use VR technology to conduct a firework show and make traditional Hanfu clothes. With AI, the inheritance (传承) of traditional culture can solve the limits of space and geography, which helps traditional skills that used to be taught by talking, to be spread more widely and better, she said.
The mix of AI technology with VR,3D and other technologies has also helped create cloud walking-around experiences, attracting young people to traditional culture, Guo said.
However, some experts warned that while technology is important for preservation, it’s even more important to think about the people in the process.
Renata Sansone, from Italy, said that some archaeological sites are very difficult for everybody to understand, but the use of technologies may make a difference in getting more people interested and playing their part in preservation. Many Chinese experts agree with her. Yu Minjing thinks that saving and passing on cultural relics should focus on people. How much people like and accept it is very important for protecting cultural relics well.
Guo holds a similar view, calling for schools, businesses, and culture groups to work together. Each group should try their best to help make cultural relics digital.
32.Why is the robot mentioned in paragraph 1
A.To introduce the challenges the robot faces.
B.To call for people to protect traditional cultures.
C.To praise sugar paintings’ role in cultural protection.
D.To show a new function of technology in traditional culture.
33.What is the main reason for Yu Minjing’s team using AI and VR technologies
A.Solving space problems in culture sharing.
B.Making new technologies develop well.
C.Attracting more young people to their show.
D.Taking the place of old teaching methods.
34.Which of the following statements would Renata Sansone agree with
A.Schools will play a key role in cultural preservation.
B.Archaeological sites are best explored with technology.
C.It’s important to make the public join in cultural preservation.
D.Cloud walking-around has become a major way to experience culture.
35.What’s the best title for the text
A.The Popular Rise of Robot Artists B.The Role of Technology in Cultural Protection
C.The Influence of AI on Cultural Exchange D.The Future Development of Traditional Skills

Armed with two over-packed suitcases, we arrived at the airport just in time for my flight. “Well, here we are, the airport,” my sister said with a sigh. As I watched her unload my luggage, I could see the sadness in her eyes. This was not easy on her either. We had both been fearing this moment for the past week. One last hug and a final good-bye and I would be on my way to a new life abroad, leaving my beloved sister behind.
All my life I had loved airports. To me they were some kind of magic gateway to the world, a place from which to start great holidays and adventures. But today it seemed like a cold and heartless place.
As we made our way to the gate, we passed through a busload of frustrated holiday goers and their screaming children. I looked at my sister and even though her eyes were filled with tears, she was trying to keep a brave face. “You better go or you’ll miss your flight,” she said.
“I am just going to walk away and not look back,” I said, “that would just be too hard.”
As I held her one last time she whispered, “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be just fine.”
“I’ll miss you,” I replied, and with those last words I was off. As promised, I did not look back, but by the time I reached the customs’ office I was sobbing. “Cheer up, love,” the tall customs officer said with a smile. “It’s not the end of the world, you know.” But to me it was the end of the world, as I had known it.
While boarding the plane I was still crying. I did not have the energy to put my bag in the overhead locker, so I stuffed it on the empty seat next to mine. As I settled into my chair, a feeling of sadness overwhelmed me. I felt like my best friend had just been taken away from me.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The plane shook heavily and the bag that I had pushed onto the seat next to me fell on the floor, thus everything was spread on the floor, including a little book.

第二节 (满分25分)
The plane shook heavily and the bag that I had pushed onto the seat next to me fell on the floor, thus everything was spread on the floor, including a little book. It was not until I picked it up that I realized that it was a diary. Immediately, I recognized my sister’s handwriting. “Hi Sis, what a day it has been today. First you let me know that you are moving abroad and I feel proud of you... ” Only then did I realize that my sister had been keeping a diary for the past month and that she was now passing it on to me. She had been planning to start the diary for the past year but now the time seemed right. Thinking of this, I was close to tears.
I spent the rest of the flight reading about my sister’s diary. Memories came back flooding into my mind. All the moments we played together, the arguments we made, the secrets we shared embraced me. And even though a large ocean separated us, at some point it felt like she was actually there. It was only when I thought that I had lost my best friend and felt sadness that I realized that she was going to be around forever. Why not write in the diary for the next couple of months and then send it back to her Just at that moment, the destination airport was in view.
