This year is the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth and sure enough, Miss Austen, a new four-part
adaptation of a novel landed in February to kick off a year of Austen love.
What is the plot of Miss Austen
The series is told not from the perspective of Jane Austen but her sister Cassandra, a controversial (备受争
议的) figure in English literary history for having burnt Jane’s private letters after her death. The truth, though, as
this elegant and human period drama will reveal, is more complex...
Where was Miss Austen shot
Adwell House, Oxfordshire: It’s in Kintbury Vicarage that Cassandra locates and destroys her sister’s
letters. Adwell House in nearby Berkshire serves as the replacement for Kintbury Vicarage during the filming,
which no longer exists.
Shottesbrooke House, Berkshire: Steventon Vicarage, where Jane Austen was born and where she created
novels like Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, was torn down after the family moved to Bath in 1801.
Instead, Miss Austen used the privately-owned Shottesbrooke House near Windsor.
Chawton, Hampshire: Scenes from Miss Austen were also filmed in Austen’s home in Chawton. The
novelist lived in the village during one of the most fruitful periods of her life. Emma, Persuasion and Sandito n
were all written in Chawton.
Langleybury House, Hertfordshire: This 18th century manor (庄园) house has been a secret weapon in
numerous films in recent years. In Miss Austen, it doubles for Winchester, Southampton, and Jane Austen’s old
dancing haunt (常去之地), Basingstoke Assembly Rooms.
Is Miss Austen worth watching

forms,” says a leading news medium.

Girls who love to laugh usually have good luck, and the same goes for those who are disciplined. While her
peers were tasting the latest bubble milk tea and trending desserts, 21-year- old Zheng Qinwen spent 360 days a
year sticking to a striet, dull diet.
In more than a decade of strict training, Zheng never slacked off (懈怠). She was always the first to arrive
and the last to leave. This summer, that discipline has paid off. On Saturday, Zheng shined at Roland-Garros,
winning the women’s singles Olympic gold — the first-ever for an Asian athlete.
In the climactic moment, when the winning shot landed, she dropped her racket as she collapsed backwards
onto the red clay and raised her arms in triumph(狂喜), immersed in the thunderous cheers ringing out around
Court Philippe-Chatrier.
“Actually, at match point, I could feel my hands trembling, but my focus remained intense, as I
concentrated on conducting the next shot. When I finally won the match, I not only beat the pressure, but also
surpassed my own limits,” Zheng said.
Once nicknamed “Fire”, she has now perfected the art of balancing her hot-headedness with patience —
combining “water” and “fire" on the court, mastering the skill of channeling her energy with precision. The
newfound calmness and confidence have not only earned her greater success, but also the title of “Queen Wen”
among her fans.
“I love my fans for giving me this title , honestly, because it fits my character well: You need to present
yourself as the queen of the court, because you need this energy, this power to show that you are the best,” Zheng
said. “I remember before, when something bad would happen, or there would be a tough moment, I would
struggle and get panicked. I could not find peace in my heart. But, right now, as you can see in this Olympic
Games, when I’m 1-4 down, 0-4 down, I find a way to come back during the match ,” she said. “There is fire and
there is water at the same time.”
Zheng owed her success to her family’s firm support and the many sacrifices her parents had made along
the way. “They taught me how to be disciplined and to stay focused on my dream. Most importantly, they always
believed in me and the heights I could reach. I want to thank them for that,” she said.
24.What does the first two paragraphs try to tell us
A.Zheng lives a dull life compared to other girls.
B.Zheng has been devoting herself to gold medal.
C.Zheng is strongly self-controlled and it pays off.
D.Zheng is fond of laughing and has a promising future.
25.What did Zheng do when she won the match
A.She fell onto her back and lifted her arms.
B.She jumped up in excitement.
C.She shouted loudly to celebrate her victory.
D.She quickly ran towards her coach to celebrate.
26.Why are “fire” “water” and “Queen” mentioned
A.To indicate Zheng’ s final success. B.To show Zheng’ s gradual growth.
C.To imply Zheng’ s superb capability. D.To suggest Zheng’ s inconsistent efforts.
27.Which of the following best describes Zheng
A.Disciplined and unlucky. B.Ambitious and honest.
C.Gifted and intelligent. D.Hardworking and grateful.

Surgeons often emphasize that in the event of a heart attack, time is crucial for saving heart muscle. The
heart relies on a continuous supply of oxygen delivered by the heart’s blood vessels (血管). When these vessels
become blocked, the oxygen supply stops, and the heart's muscle cells begin to die within minutes. Survivors of
heart attacks frequently suffer from permanent heart failure, with a worrying statistic showing that 50% of them
may not survive beyond five years. “Eventually, their hearts become so weak that they can't sustain sufficient
blood flow, and they ultimately stop,” explains Sanjay Sinha, a cardiologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in
Cambridge.
However, within the next five years, there could be a new alternative — to grow live, beating “heart
patches” (补丁). Sinha, along with a team of biologists at the University of Cambridge’s Stem Cell Institute, is
working on this innovative approach. These heart patches are tiny, beating pieces of heart muscle. They are grown
in lab dishes over a month. The process begins by taking blood cells and reprogramming them into a specific type
of stem cell capable of developing into any cell type within the human body. Sinha is currently preparing to test
these patches, first in mice and then in pigs. If successful, he hopes to set up a human trial within five years.
In the United States, scientists from Stanford University are also working on creating heart patches. They
envision a future procedure where ultrasound and MRI (超声波和核磁共振) scans are used to identify damaged
sections. Based on the shape of the section, a custom heart patch would be 3D printed to fit perfectly. Surgeons
would then open the chest area and attach the patch directly to the heart.
The major challenge with this method is establishing “electrical connectivity” between the new patch and
the existing heart to ensure they beat in harmony. Additionally, the cost of developing and using these patches is
significant, which could impact accessibility. However, if these challenges can be overcome, Sinha is optimistic
that heart patches could transform the lives of millions worldwide.
28.What is the function of paragraph I
A.To reveal a finding. B.To offer a solution.
C.To present a problem. D.To outline a research.
29.What is the first step in growing heart patches
A.Launching a clinical trial in humans.
B.Testing the heart patches on animals.
C.Culturing heart patches in lab dishes.
D.Generating stem cells from blood cells.
30.What is the purpose of using ultrasound and MRI scans
A.To create a 3D model of the heart.
B.To locate damaged areas in the heart.
C.To design the shape of the custom heart.
D.To provide real-time guidance for operations.
31.What is the major challenge in employing heart patches
A.Promoting global accessibility. B.Reducing production costs.
C.Securing functional integration. D.Finding a suitable material.

Charlotte Bront ’s father was a rural clergyman. She lost her mother when she was five. Bront ’s two older
sisters died of an illness. Bront had an active imaginative life, writing stories of a fantastic world called Angria.
Her first novel — Jane Eyre — was immediately and widely popular, and brought her into London literary
circles. After losing all of her siblings (兄弟姐妹) to illness, Bront married a clergyman she respected, but did not
love. She died at 38 of complications (并发症) of her pregnancy.
The Victorian period brought sweeping changes across British society, and writers like Bront explored its
crises and progress. Abroad, the British expanded into a global empire that brought wealth from colonies. With the
Industrial Revolution at home, manufacturing became Britain’s economic backbone. As the middle class found
profitable opportunities, a new laboring class struggled for wages, job security, and adequate working and living
conditions. Jane Eyre includes themes of reforms that emerged from the crisis: better political representation,
working conditions, and education. Few of these reforms came immediately for women, who had limited status in
Vietorian society. As Jane strives for economic and personal independence, she touches on the issues of class,
economics, and gender roles that affected Victorian Britain at large.
The most popular literary form in the Victorian period was the novel, and Jane Eyre illustrates many of its
defining characteristics: social relevance, plain style, and the narrative of an individual’s inner thoughts. Jane
Eyre bears earlier Gothic features, with its mysteries, supernatural events, and picturesque scenery. Jane Eyre is a
coming-of-age story, in which the protagonist’s (主角的) ambitions are set against the pressures and expectations
of society. Victorian novels with similar styles and goals include Charles Dickens’ semi-autobiographical story,
David Copperfeld (1849-1850), and Elizabeth Gaskell’s Mary Barton (1848) and North and South (1855).
The Bront s became a literary powerhouse when Charlotte, Emily, and Anne all wrote successful first
novels. Each sister published under a masculine-sounding pseudonym (假名) based on their initials. Charlotte
Bront became “Currer Bell”; Emily Bront wrote Wuthering Height (1845-1846) as “Ellis Bell”, and Anne
Bront published Agnes Gray (1847) as “Acton Bell”.
32.What can we learn about Charlotte Bront based on Paragraph 1
A.She created a fantasy world named Angria after writing Jane Eyre.
B.She entered London literary circles due to the success of her book.
C.She was survived by her siblings who carried on with her career.
D.She passed away peacefully in her old age surrounded by family.
33.Why was Charlotte Bront ’s novel Jane Eyre widely popular
A.It was her first attempt at writing.
B.It was supported by famous literary figures.
C.It was written based on her own life.
D.It was about important social issues of her time.
34.Which literary characteristic of Jane Eyre fits with the Victorian novel tradition
A.A focus on the protagonist’s inner thoughts and social relevance.
B.A narrative style that avoids addressing class and gender issues.
C.A rejection of Gothic elements and mysterious stories.
D.An emphasis on fantastic worlds unrelated to reality.
35.What does the underlined word in Paragraph 4 most nearly mean
A.A group of people with minimal influence.
B.A powerful and influential force in literature.
C.A single writer who gained fame and strength.
D.A group of writers only focusing on social issues.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)

Many high school seniors approach the college application essay with anxiety. They feel their lives are too
ordinary to create a story that will impress admissions officers. 36 It just needs to be a genuine
reflection of their personal growth, drawn from everyday moments.
I once worked with a boy who had no idea what to write about. Family Favorite subject He kept silent
until I suggested, “Hobbies ” He shyly said, “I like boxing.” Then his essay unfolded, not about boxing itself, but
about self-discipline and resilience (坚韧), qualities that any college would admire. So look into the things that
shape you. 37
Some students try to catch attention by writing their essays in unconventional forms, such as a poem or a
play. Most still follow the traditional storytelling model: a hook (引子), a story, and a lesson learned. 38
For example, the rough edges and the pleasant smell of her father’s handmade furniture inspired one girl to
become an engineer. The magic is in the details and emotional depth.
As a writing tutor, I was hung up on language rules at first. Should I help my students stick to “standard
English,” or let them write the way they naturally speak — even if that includes informal expressions 39
It’s also about expressing ideas naturally and making connections with readers. It doesn’t hurt to tell a humorous
childhood incident in a light, conversational tone.
40 Essay writing teaches students to express themselves with precision through rethinking ideas,
refining language, and rewriting drafts. With multiple edits, they will uncover deeper insights and create a story
only they can tell.
A.After all, I preferred a formal writing style.
B.A great essay eventually takes form in revision.
C.I soon realized writing isn’t just about language.
D.That’s why they try to make up appealing stories.
E.Whatever the form, an essay stands out for its story.
F.Once a topic clicks, the essay practically writes itself.
G.But a powerful essay doesn’t require a dramatic story.

The wind howled as Chester tightened the wire headband around his ears. The beaver fur flaps (护耳),
sewn carefully by Grandmother, felt soft against his skin. He glanced at his reflection in the frozen pond — the
ear protectors looked clumsy, but his ears were finally warm.
“Watch this!” Chester called to his classmates skating nearby. He pushed off the ice, gliding smoothly. For
a moment, he forgot the strange looks they had given him.
Suddenly, William skated up beside him, sneering (冷笑).“Nice squirrel ears, Chester! Do they help you
hear the nuts cracking ” Laughter erupted across the pond.
Chester's face burned. He opened his mouth to answer back , but a sharp snap cut through the air. The wire
headband loosened, and one fur flap hung loosely. Panicking, he reached up to adjust it, only to feel the other side
give way. The ear protectors collapsed into his hands just as a bitter gust of wind stabbed his exposed ears.
The laughter grew louder. “Maybe you should invent something that actually works!” Robert shouted.
Chester stumbled toward the shore, clutching the broken pieces. His throat tightened. All those hours
bending wire, begging Grandmother for help, convincing himself it would work — now it lay ruined in his palms.
Even worse, tomorrow the whole school would hear about this failure.
He sat on a snow-covered log, staring at the twisted wire. The setting sun cast long shadows over the pond,
and the temperature dropped sharply. His ears ached with cold, but the shame hurt more.
A memory flashed — Father tightening a loose bolt on the bridge model, murmuring, “A broken tool isn't
the end, son. It's the first clue to a better solution.” Chester examined the broken headband. The wire had snapped
where it curved over his temples (太阳穴). The beaver fur, though warm, was too heavy for the thin metal.
As darkness fell, Chester noticed something shining by the pond’s edge — a flexible birch (桦树) branch
sticking out the ice, its surface smoothed by winter winds. He snapped (折断) it gently, testing its springiness. An
idea came...

【答案】17.A 18.C 19.B 20.B
【原文】 It’s good to see people live longer lives. But how we can help people who live longer live better has
been a big challenge. Now, a number of businesses are offering services specifically designed for the elderly. One
of them is True Call. True Call is a UK telephone communication service that can block unwanted telephone calls.
Businessman Robert Smith has set the system in his mother’s home, since a group of people had stolen her life
savings through phone calls a few months earlier.
Another one called Red & Yellow Care is a health care service. According to the director Mike Hart, their
staff is trained to be able to explain their service in a simple and clear way, and unafraid of repeating the
information. All the training is to provide safer and friendlier service for the elderly.
Then there is Safeway, a supermarket chain. One of the staff, Martin Bateman says that he and his co-workers
now ask older customers more frequently if they need help at the checkouts. These customers may not know what
to do with the self-checkout machines. All in all, the elderly are gaining increasing attention from the society.
They’ll be living longer and better.

D.A group of writers only focusing on social issues.

ordinary to create a story that will impress admissions officers.
G.But a powerful essay doesn’t require a dramatic story.

naturally and making connections with readers. It doesn’t hurt to tell a humorous childhood incident in a light,
conversational tone.(这也是关于自然地表达想法,与读者建立联系。用轻松、对话的语气讲述一个幽默的童

仅仅是语言”符合语境,故选 C。
40.根据后文“Essay writing teaches students to express themselves with precision through rethinking ideas,
refining language, and rewriting drafts. With multiple edits, they will uncover deeper insights and create a story
only they can tell.(论文写作教会学生通过重新思考思想、精炼语言和重写草稿来精确地表达自己。通过多
次编辑,他们将发现更深入的见解,并创造一个只有他们才能讲述的故事)”可知,后文提到经过编辑,文

【答案】参考范文:
Chester carefully bent the birch branch, shaping it into a curve. Despite his fingers numbing from the cold,
he focused intently, splitting the branch into thin strips, each one softer than the wire. With trembling hands, he
wove the strips into a circular frame, securing the beaver flaps with twine he had stashed in his pocket. A sudden
gust of wind nearly tore the model from his grasp, but Chester held fast, his persistence overcoming the biting
cold. Testing it on the ice, he marveled at how the wooden band fit snugly against his head, its flexibility making
it both sturdy and comfortable. For the first time, the flaps enveloped his ears like a soft, comforting embrace. Yet,
a seed of doubt still lingered in his mind — could this delicate design withstand tomorrow’s jokes
The next morning, whispers of teasing followed Chester as he entered the schoolyard. “Ready for round
two, Squirrel King ” William jeered, surrounded by a circle of snickering (窃笑) boys. Chester, undeterred,
calmly adjusted his new earmuffs (耳套), the birch frame gleaming in the winter sunlight. “Try them on,” he said,
tossing them to William. Hesitant but curious, William slipped the earmuffs on, and his smirk (洋洋得意地笑)
melted into wide-eyed astonishment. “No chafing... no burning...” he muttered in disbelief. By lunchtime, even
Robert, usually the loudest critic, was asking Chester for a pair. That afternoon, as classmates skated with rosy
cheeks and bright smiles, Chester knew that true warmth did not come from fur, but from the quiet strength of
unwavering resolve.
