The Biggest Stadiums in the World
People have been pouring into stadiums since the days of ancient Greece. In around 80 A.D., the Romans built the Colosseum, which remains the world's best known stadium and continues to inform contemporary design. Rome's Colosseum was 157 feet tall and had 80 entrances, seating 50,000 people. However, that was small fry compared with the city's Circus Maximums, which accommodated around 250,000 people.
These days, safety regulations—not to mention the modern sports fan's desire for a good view and a comfortable seat—tend to keep stadium capacities (容量) slightly lower. Even soccer fans tend to have a seat each; gone are the days of thousands standing to watch the match.
For the biggest stadiums in the world, we have used data supplied by the World Atlas list so far, which ranks them by their stated permanent capacity, as well as updated information from official stadium websites.
All these stadiums are still functional, still open and still hosting the biggest events in world sport.
Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, Pyongyang, D.P.R. Korea. Capacity: 150,000. Opened: May 1, 1989.
Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S. Capacity: 107,601. Opened: October1, 1927.
Beaver Stadium, State College, Pennsylvania, U.S. Capacity: 106,572. Opened: September 17, 1960.
Ohio Stadium, Columbus, Ohio, U.S. Capacity: 104,944. Opened: October 7, 1922.
Kyle Field, College Station, Texas, U.S. Capacity: 102,512. Opened: September 24, 1927.
21. How many people could the Circus Maximums hold
A. 104,944. B. 107,601. C. About 150,000. D. About 250,000.
22. Of the following stadiums, which is the oldest
A. Michigan Stadium. B. Beaver Stadium.
C. Ohio Stadium. D. Kyle Field.
23. What do the listed stadiums have in common
A. They host big games. B. They have become tourist attractions.
C. They were built by Americans. D. They are favored by architects.

There seems to be a lot of talk these days about what is fair, and what is not. Most people tend to believe life should be fair. Some of the 99% seem to believe life has somehow treated them unfairly, and some of the 1% feel life hasn't treated them fairly enough. My questions are these: What is fairness Is life fair Should life be fair
We clearly have no choice about how we come into this world. We have little choice early in life. But as we grow older, choices abound. I have long believed that while we have no control over the beginning of our life, the majority of us have the ability to influence the outcomes we attain. Fairness is a state of mind, and most often, an unhealthy state of mind. Our state in life cannot, or at least should not, be blamed on our parents, our teachers, or our society-it's largely based on the choices we make, and the attitudes we adopt.
Life is full of examples of the uneducated, the mentally and physically challenged people born into war-torn areas, who could have complained about life being unfair, but who instead chose a different path. Regardless of the challenges they faced, they had the character to choose contribution over complaint.
I agree that challenges exist. I agree that many have an uphill battle due to the severity of the challenges they face. What I disagree with is the attempt to use fairness to solve all problems in the world. Rules and orders don't create fairness, but people's desire and determination can work around most life challenges.
It doesn't matter whether you are born with a silver spoon, plastic spoon, or no spoon at all. A friend of mine came to this country from Africa in his late teens, barely spoke the language, drove a cab while working his way through college, and is now the president of a technology services firm. Stories such as this are all around us-they are not miracles, no rare they the rare exception. They do, however, demonstrate blindness to the mindset of the fairness.
24. What does the underlined word "abound" in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Change fully. B. Remain the same.
C. Exist in numbers. D. Disappear completely.
25. What opinion does the writer agree with
A. Most of us can influence the results we achieve.
B. Our background determines our choices.
C. People's desire and determination create unfairness.
D. We should depend on fairness to solve all problems.
26. What is the primary purpose of the text
A. To promote efforts over complaint.
B. To stress the importance of fairness.
C. To share an inspiring story of a friend.
D. To prove that fairness is a state of mind.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Fairness Is Justice. B. Life Is Not Fair—Deal With It.
C. Fairness Comes First. D. Fairness Creates Chances.
C
Imagine being told that you will never walk again! That was what doctors told the world-famous gymnast (体操运动员) Kieran Behan after they removed a cancerous tumor (肿瘤) from his leg when he was only ten years old. The operation went so badly that he woke up crying in terrible pain. Up to then, he had been crazy about gymnastics and was determined to become an Olympic champion. It took him three years to get back to where he had been before he injured his head. But unfortunately, he then suffered more injuries. Even just after he had been chosen for the European Championships, his knee was broken. Behan has said that was when he was about to give up.
But he never gave up and finally succeeded in becoming the Challenge World Cup floor champion in 2011, and his greatest moment of honor was when he attended the London 2012 Olympics. Ed Jackson's team were trying to climb to the top of a Himalayan mountain. However, weeks after they set off, they were stranded (滞留) there overnight without water, food or tents at a temperature of about -30℃. They took turns to keep each other awake in case they fell asleep and did not wake up again.
Actually, that night on the mountain top was not the first time that Jackson had been close to death.
Five years ago, while still a professional rugby player, Jackson broke his neck in a challenge, which nearly killed him. Jackson was told by doctors that he was likely to face life in a wheelchair. He was forced to retire from playing rugby.
Luckily, Jackson managed to discard his wheelchair six months after the accident. To mark the first anniversary of his accident, Jackson set himself the goal of climbing Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, even though he was still using two crutches (拐杖) then. He tried to climb many higher mountains after that. Four years later, he found himself in the Himalayas.
The challenges that Jackson faced in the mountains have had a great impact on his recovery both physically and mentally. Jackson realized that others might benefit, too. So he started the charity Millimeters to Mountains (M2M) with his wife Lois and his friend Oily Barkley. It takes beneficiaries who have suffered physical or psychological injuries in challenges around the world, allowing them to access the healing power of nature.
Jackson says, "I once lost hope in life because of my bad condition, thinking there was nothing I could do. But hopefully what I'm doing, what we're doing with the charity and what our beneficiaries are proving can give anyone the hope that they can turn their life around, no matter how discouraging it might seem at that moment."
32. What do the first two paragraphs mainly talk about
A. Jackson was tired of ball games.
B. Jackson was no stranger to suffering in life.
C. Jackson was well respected for his survival skills.
D. Jackson was advised to do exercise by his doctors.
33. What does the underlined word "discard" probably mean in the third paragraph
A. Give up. B. Figure out. C. Move on. D. Look through.
34. Why did Jackson start M2M
A. To educate sports lovers.
B. To raise money for the disabled.
C. To encourage safe mountain climbing.
D. To help people with similar experiences.
35. What kind of person is Jackson probably
A. Enthusiastic but impolite. B. Creative but impatient.
C. Adventurous and inspiring. D. Responsible and humorous.

Benefits of Sports
Doing sports is a physical, mental and social adventure. It's a great way for children to take a break from academics and release extra energy. It also helps them lead fuller and happier lives as regular sports have proven to improve overall well-being.
The physical benefits of doing sports are probably the most obvious. Regardless of your fitness level when you start playing sports, you'll notice an increase in your overall fitness once you're involved. 36 Basketball players focus on strength training; football players work on speed while track athletes train through longer runs. The training process helps promote physical fitness and performances in competitions.
37 Playing sports contributes to mental health, helping to increase confidence and self-worth. A pat on the back, high-five from a teammate, or handshake after a match really boosts a child's confidence. Words of praise and encouragement from the coach, parents and other players raise the self-worth. 38 So after a game, it's a better idea to ask "Did you enjoy the game " rather than "Did you win "
Children who participate in sports might also benefit from the social aspect, feeling part of a group, building up accountability and leadership. 39 Teamwork involves both being dependable as a teammate and learning to rely on your teammates to achieve a positive outcome. Teamwork breeds accountability and challenges you to be responsible for your actions. Being part of a team gives you an opportunity to be a leader.
Discipline is another social advantage. Most organized sports require a strict training and practice schedule. As a student-athlete, you need to balance academics and athletics. 40
There is no shortage of reasons to find a sport to get involved in. Are you ready to go Pick one and get moving!
A. It's not just your body that benefits from sports.
B. Therefore, playing sports is going to make you more fit.
C. But remember, a child's self-worth should not be distinguished by victory or loss.
D. If you play group sports, you'll be part of a team that takes direction from a coach.
E. Nearly every sport requires physical activity and the skills needed to be competitive.
F. Among these, learning how to function as part of a team is the most important advantage.
G. Only with strict discipline can you be successful both in the classroom and in the sports field.

第二节(满分25分)

The Leap
Once a twelve-year-old boy was traveling around the world by sea. His father was the captain of the ship. Now, the ship was sailing home at last. It was a pleasant day. All the passengers were on the deck (甲板).
A monkey was making funny faces at the passengers. It became funnier as more passengers came closer, enjoying its tricks. Suddenly the monkey ran towards the captain's son and took his hat. It then put the hat on its own head. Soon after that, it climbed up the tall pole with two crossbeams (横梁) that supported the sails (帆) on the ship.
Everyone laughed, but the boy was not sure whether to laugh or cry. It had come as a surprise. The monkey sat on the first crossbeam of the pole, took off the hat and began to tear it.
The hat was too important for the boy. So he shouted with extreme anger, "You terrible creature! Return my hat or you are going to pay for it." He went after the monkey on the pole, which continued to climb higher.
"I am not going to forgive you," the boy shouted, as he climbed higher and higher. After a while, the monkey stretched itself to its full length and hung what remained of the hat on the end of the second crossbeam. Then it climbed to the very tip of the pole and sat there, making fun of the boy.
The distance from the pole to the end of the crossbeam, where the hat was, was about two meters. To reach the hat, the boy had to let go of the pole. Everyone froze with fear when they saw the boy had stepped onto the crossbeam without support. One wrong step, and he would fall hard to the board of the ship, which would lead to death. The only solution was to jump into the water. However, the boy didn't realize the danger, as his mind was focused only on getting the hat.

Last week, a student named Tom Brown asked for some tips on how to stay healthy, so in today's program, I'd like to share a few tips on this topic with you. First, you should pay attention to what you eat and drink. Fruit and vegetables are good for our health, so try to eat more. You should also be sure to drink about 6 to 8 glasses of water throughout the day. Second, remember that doing exercise is very important. No matter which type of exercise you take up, try to get around 40 minutes of exercise every day. Don't give up! Third, if you are suffering from any health problems, you should find the causes behind them and then try to avoid those causes. For example, eat lots of food that's rich in vitamin C to help you avoid catching the common cold. The last, take time to do some deep breathing. Deep breathing is not only good for your lung, but can also be used to calm your mind. Repeat this around 10 times, you will be surprised at the results.
Thanks for your listening. Tomorrow, I'll share some tips with you about how to exercise every day to stay fit.

第二节
答案:
Just then the captain came on deck, carrying a gun to shoot seabirds. He was surprised at the sight of the huge crowd. Then he looked up,only to find his son likely to fall at any moment. A sudden wave of panic swept over him. But he managed to pretend to be calm."Hey, Dad is here! Be brave and jump into the water!" Hearing the words, the boy hesitated before he stuttered, "But…" The captain added."Trust me! I'll get you out immediately." Finally the body agreed and jumped off. At the same time, the captain, along with some sailors, dashed into the water, rescued the boy and brought him back on board. They pressed his stomach and water came out of his mouth and nose. Then he began to breathe.
Seeing his son wet but alive, the captain breathed a sigh of relief. A burst of applause and cheers broke out from the crowd. Though he had an outward appearance of calm, his heart was pounding with nervousness. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine he was so close to losing his beloved son. At the same time, he was proud of his son for making a wise choice in the face of danger. He kept his son company for a long while until his son felt better. The moment the boy stood up, he threw himself into his father's arms, saying in a gentle voice "Thank you, Dad!"
with tears of gratitude and happiness rolling down his cheeks.
