Yingge Dance is a traditional Chinese folk dance from Chaoshan, Guangdong. It’s a mix of dance, opera and kung fu. But these days, many young students don’t know much about it.
In a middle school in Chaoshan, two students, 14-year-old Mei and 15-year-old Kai, wanted to change this. Mei said, “Yingge Dance is so cool, but most of our classmates haven’t really seen it. We want to introduce the traditional dance to more people”. So they started the “Ying Lovers Club”.
They also made a simple website. On the website, there are pictures and short videos of YinggeDance shows. Club members can talk to each other there. They share how they feel about the dance and ideas to make it more popular.
The club also has a “Yingge Badge (徽章)” system. Students can get these badges by joining club activities, like making Yingge posters, telling stories about Yingge Dance or practicing Yingge Dance with other members. They hope more students will love Yingge Dance through their efforts and help keep this great Chinese culture alive.

(2025·江苏盐城·一模)Thanks to China’s new visa-free transit policy (免签过境政策), American YouTube star IShowSpeed, famously nicknamed “Jiakang Ge”, visited Dengfeng, Central China’s Henan Province, to learn Shaolin kung fu. His training video, which showed his teacher Liang Xiaolong, became popular online immediately. Liang, a modest kung fu coach at the Henan Provincial Shaolin Wushu Center, won high praise from viewers for his kindness and skills.
Liang, born into a martial arts family in 1987, started learning kung fu at the age of 11. He teaches both foreigners and locals at the center, which develops Shaolin culture and tourism. During the lesson, IShowSpeed learned basic moves like the “five-step fist” and tried Sanda skills, a mix of traditional kung fu and modern fighting. Liang later mentioned that Speed impressed him deeply with his bravery and quick learning, mastering most of the routine after just two tries.
One unforgettable moment came when IShowSpeed volunteered to try Hard Qigong, a skill where a person is hit with a stick. Though IShowSpeed clearly felt pain, Liang encouraged him by explaining that pain was part of kung fu training and life itself. Many viewers found these words inspiring.
Liang shared his belief that kung fu helps people connect even without shared languages. He described kungfu as a bridge connecting martial arts lovers across cultures (跨文化). Despite getting attention from IShowSpeed’s video, Liang remained modest, saying that his goal was to continue teaching Shaolin traditions developing cultural exchanges. And this event also shows how kung fu can bring people from different cultures together.

It is impossible to name all Chinese customs in a single article. Even so, in this passage we bring you several Chinese customs and traditions that you should know. Here we go!
Chinese usually do not show their feelings openly, also avoiding any unnecessary body touch. The Chinese see badly that people kiss each other on the face, even if they are women. In fact, shaking hands was also not so acceptable in the past. For them it is enough to make a small nod when greeting. As the country gradually (逐渐地) lets Western traditions in, people are used to shaking hands to greet.
Many food manners must be followed strictly at meals. Some details should be paid much attention to by both guests and hosts. In China, the older guests are always seated first, and then others can take their seats. Food manners are also very important. You should never serve yourself a drink. It should be served by someone else. Chopsticks should never be placed upwards in food. And to eat, never put your mouth away from your own bowl.
The Chinese have the habit and skill of being able to sleep anywhere at any time. It doesn’t matter if it’s on the break from work, in the middle of the street or waiting in a supermarket. This Chinese custom has nothing to do with laziness, quite the opposite. In China, sleeping for a short time in public places is considered a symbol of effort. For example, thousands and millions of netizens (网民) will give a photo of a sleeping doctor in the corner of the operating room a “like” to show their respect to the doctor. So, this person has been putting a lot of effort into his work and it is right that he should sleep as he likes.
Many of you have already known it’s polite not to open gifts in public. But that’s not the only important thing to know when receiving gifts in China. For example, the Chinese will always refuse your gift up to three times to show they are well educated. But in the end, they’re willing to accept it. And remember not to receive the gift with only one hand.
Chinese Customs and Traditions

Nature’s Engineers Build Dams (水坝) for Us
Seven years ago, a dam was planned in the Czech Republic. It would be built in the country’s Vltava River area. The project received more than 1.4 million dollars, but it never started because local officials couldn’t get the building permits (许可证) for it. This past January, however, people found the project had been done-by a family of eight beavers (河狸)! Beavers are the world’s second-largest rodents (啮齿动物). They can weigh up to 30kilograms. These big animals are nature’s great builders.
To make a dam, beavers first put sticks and wood into the mud (泥土) of the riverbed to form a base (底座). Then, they use materials such as rocks and mud to build the top of the base. They build the dam across the river to prevent the flow of water. This creates a large “beaver pool.” Beavers can build their homes in these pools. Because of the pools, beavers can get plenty of food and enemies can’t harm them easily.
Beaver dams also make good homes for many other animals, such as fish and frogs, which helps keep the balance of nature. What’s more, they work as natural firebreaks (防火带) and help prevent flooding.
The beavers have built at least four dams in the Vltava River area. Some of these dams are very big. The biggest one on record lies in Canada. The 850-meter-long dam is so large that we can see it from space! “They picked perfect places to build their dams,” said Jaroslav Obermajer, a local official. “Beavers’ designs are always better than what humans design on paper!” Nature knows best, doesn’t it

My shock and surprise disappeared when I understood that this island was my salvation (得救). I began to shout for help to the people on the island. They did not understand me but they understood that I was in difficulty and made signs for me to move towards them. They moved closer and when I was underneath the island they sent a chair down to me on a chain and pulled me up.
The people on the island were friendly and accepted me but they were incredibly strange. They wore the strangest clothes and they all had their own personal man servant who carried a large balloon on the end of a stick. The servant’s job was to tap (轻拍) his master on his mouth or ear when he needed to speak or listen to something. This was because these masters passed most of their time in intense thought (沉思). They thought about the strangest subjects for hours and hours a day. And as a result they had no sense of practical things in life, such as speaking or listening, or looking where they were going.
I later learnt that this island was called Laputa. Some people took me to speak to the king. When we arrived at his palace, the king was lost in thought and didn’t notice me. I waited for more than an hour until, finally, one of his servant tapped him on the mouth and he spoke.
I didn’t understand their language and could not answer the king. One of the servants tried to tap me on the mouth with his balloon to make me speak. I protested (抗议,反对) very quickly.
“I know exactly when to speak and listen,” I told them. They understood the sense of what I said. But they thought I was a complete idiot because I did not pass my time in thought, too. Then after dinner, a servant came to teach me their language and tell me about life on Laputa.

Chinese architect Liu Jiakun, 68, was awarded the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize on March 4. becoming the second winner from China to receive the highest honor in the field of architecture. Based in Chengdu, Liu’s career covers four decades and more than 30 projects. He founded Jiakun Architects in 1999 and has built a diverse body of work, ranging from small, beautifully designed museums and monuments (纪念碑) to large commercial buildings and master plans for cities.
The Pritzker Architecture Prize
Rather than following a distinct style, Liu’s projects include local elements and rely on “low-tech” simplicity to achieve beauty, The Spaces reported. “He has developed a strategy that never bases on a recurring (反复出现的) method but rather on evaluating the specific characteristics and requirements of each project differently,” the jury (评审团) said in its citation announcing the award.
One of Liu’s most well-known projects around the world was the so-called “rebirth bricks” he created after the terrible Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. To aid in reconstruction, Liu made bricks using local wheat fiber, cement (水泥) and rubble (瓦砾) from collapsed buildings. More than just recycling, these bricks were “a poetic metaphor”, for the rebirth of the material and “the spiritual rebirth of the community at a time of national mourning”, reported The Guardian, These bricks were later used in several of his projects, including the Shuijingfang Museum in Chengdu and the Novartis pharmaceutical (制药) company in Shanghai.
Liu’s design also focuses on ordinary people. This is reflected in his largest project, West Village, a five-story urban complex completed in 2015 in Chengdu, The complex includes a soccer field, a market, and pathways for cyclists and pedestrians (行人). With grass growing through holes in the bricks, the project celebrates “the liveliness of ‘everyday life’,” wrote critic Austin Williams in 2017. It has become a popular destination for people from home and abroad to spend their leisure time.
“Architecture serves to create a beautiful, just and dignified (有尊严的) living environment. People’s real lives, happiness and dignity are what we strive for,” Liu told China Daily.

Nobody wants to lose, but we must accept that losing is a part of life. After all, we can’t win all the time. However, we can learn something valuable from every failure (失败). This may help us succeed in the future. So we must know how to be a good loser.
We must not be afraid of losing. When we lose, just take it with a smile and look on the bright side of it. Failure can’t be avoided in our life. Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb (灯泡).When he was asked how he felt, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times but had learned 10,000 things which didn’t work. We must know that history is full of examples of men and women who achieved success although they failed many times.
Losing is not very disgraceful. We must accept our failure and learn to take advantage of it. Remember that it can be helpful. Take action to walk out of it. When we lose, think about what we did and how we can improve. If someone else can help, we’ll be lucky enough. Maybe he or she has been through the same experience before. Many people enjoy helping others solve problems. This can save us a lot of time in learning how to avoid the same mistakes in the future.
We should face our failure when we lose. There is only one winner in every competition. Some win, while some lose. That is a usual way of life. If we offer the winners our congratulations (祝贺) and share in their happiness, we won’t feel sorry for our failure.
In a word, being a good loser will help us to succeed in life. It might be painful at the beginning, but there are many advantages. Good losers set examples to us, and most importantly, they finally win.
45.What can we learn from every failure according to the text
46.In the writer’s eyes, why did Edison achieve success
47.What does the underlined word “disgraceful” probably mean
48.What does the writer advise the losers to do in a competition
49.What is the best title for the text

Wolves and dogs are relatives, but they are quite different. Dogs like to stay with humans, while wolves don’t. However, there is an unusual wolf in the Kekexili Nature Reserve in Qinghai.
One summer day, a traveller first met the animal when driving through Kekexili. At that time, the wolf looked thin and weak. She took pity on it and offered it some food. Then she shared the video online. With the spread of the video, a great number of visitors came to feed the wolf tasty food, such as pies and chicken. Gradually, the wild animal learned to beg for a meal from passing vehicles by wagging its tail and rolling on the ground. In the latest video, the wolf has changed greatly in its appearance and behavior. It has put on lots of weight and acts like a dog. And more wolves are behaving like the wolf.
Some netizens joked that it showed how a wolf changed into a dog. However, many people are worried that feeding wolves may bring many bad results to humans and wolves. On the one hand, wolves are dangerous and may attack humans. Wild animals, especially injured ones, may carry viruses. So humans need to keep a safe distance from them. On the other hand, the feeding behavior is against the law of nature, which easily makes the wolves depend on humans. Also, too many visitors are harmful to their living areas.
In conclusion, though it’s important to protect wolves, humans shouldn’t intervene (干涉) too much.

56.What did visitors do when they met the wolf
57.What does the wolf act like in the latest video
58.Why are many people worried about the feeding behavior

There are several factors that may decide why a country chooses a particular passport colour. These factors include religious, geographical, historical or cultural ones.
Some countries try to fit in with nations or political groups they’d like to join. Governments can choose the overall design and colour for their passports from one of the four basic colours: red, blue, green, or black.
Red passports
Red, the most common passport colour, not only has religious meanings, but also may have some connections with a country’s history or politics. Countries in Northern Europe generally hold red passports.
Blue passports
The second most common passport colour is blue. Traditionally, the colour blue is meant to represent the “New World” nations in North and South America and Oceania (大洋洲). The US passport has been blue since 1976.
Green passports
Green is the most common colour of choice for Arab countries. Considered as a sign of nature and life, it is of great importance for Arabian religions. The citizens of several West African countries also have travel documents that have different shades of green, which means they belong to the Economic Community of West African States.
Black passports
Black passports are not as common as brighter colours, though dark shades tend to make a document look more official. Only 10 countries have black passports, all unconnected with geography or religion. New Zealand’s passport is black since it’s the country’s national colour.
In all, the reasons why passports are in different colours often have important and deep meanings to each government.
A brief 60 to passport colours
Many factors may decide what colour a country chooses for its passport.
Red passports ·Red is 61 with the country’s religion and history or politics. ·Northern European countries generally hold red passports.
Blue passports ·Blue 62 for “New World” nations in North and South America and Oceania. ·The USA holds blue passports.
