My father is a professional musician, showing me art can be a career. My parents always supported my interest, buying me art supplies and finding me a private teacher when I was eight, who exposed me to professional art life and introduced me to oil painting when I was ten.
As I grew older, I studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art, deepening my exposure to painting from life. At the Maryland Institute College of Art, I majored in illustration, even though I had never worked as an illustrator. My artistic style, “Loose Realism”, developed organically over time. After graduating, I encountered a “quarter-life crisis”. At that time, the traditional gallery system was still dominant and social media hadn’t yet emerged. I’d received training at school, but I didn’t know how to translate that into a professional job and even whether to choose it in the real world.
So, I got a series of random jobs, moved to Oregon, and realized I hadn’t painted within seven years. I attempted to create some occasionally during these years, but failed, as I believed that excellent art creations had to be big and figurative. I’d prepared large canvases (画布) but they became too precious to paint on, keeping me away from painting for too long. Actually, that was not the case.
Then, I discovered the daily painting movement and started with still life, realizing its possibilities. I started teaching in 2013, after local shows led people to ask why I didn't teach. My students introduced me to fresh viewpoints and challenged me to think critically about every color choice. Their attitudes and problems transformed my approach to painting, shifting it from a mechanical routine to a more mindful and intentional way. Teaching, both in person and online, has been satisfying. If I had changed my art journey, I would have focused earlier on what brought me joy.
24. How did the private teacher influence the author
A. By requiring her to create artworks. B. By enabling her to enter an art school.
C. By leading her to a specialized art path. D. By motivating her to become a teacher.
25. What problem did the author run into after graduation
A. She was disappointed at the job. B. She was unused to social media.
C. She was regretful about learning art. D. She was unsure of the future career.
26. Why did the author stop painting for seven years
A. She tried to avoid failure. B. She lost interest in painting.
C. She misunderstood great art. D. She had much work to handle.
27. What did the students inspire the author to do
A. Focus on joyful things. B. Teaching in various ways.
C. Stick to painting every day. D. Turn to thoughtful practice.

“Turn off, tune out and drop in.” That’s the message to customers at a Dutch digital detox cafe who are paying for the privilege of leaving their phones at the door. The Offline Club, which began life in Amsterdam, offers an oasis (乐土) of calm and pause from the constant digital busyness of life lived through the black glass of a smartphone. It creates moments of quiet reflection, and encourages conversations with strangers instead of endless keyboard arguments hammered out 280 characters at a time.
With board games, a piano and books on hand, the idea is to swap recharging your device for refilling your soul, even for just a few hours. Aided by words spreading on social media, the club has already branched out to multiple cities across the Netherlands, and is now ready for an international launch.
“People love it: they tell us this is exactly what they’ve been waiting for; they can’t believe it didn’t exist already,” says co-founder Ilya Kneppelhout. “A girl called Belinda who struggled with stress and anxiety told us she hadn’t felt so at peace with herself in a year and a half.”
Customers switch between time to themselves and time to connect. “People don’t just pay to get rid of their phones — they’re also paying to meet others,” says Kneppelhout. “We live in quite an isolated world where we’re more connected online, but in the physical world, it’s hard to meet people.”
He’s already had a group of digital downtime followers in the UK, where Georgina Sturmer, who has worked with clients experiencing over-dependence on phones, points out another benefit of a switched-off society. “We are constantly at risk of having every word or image captured and shared,” she says. “This sense of being endlessly photographed is something that has come with these devices being in our lives so much. Wouldn’t it be great to feel safe knowing it doesn’t matter if we’re having a bad hair day, or don't really like our outfit ”
28. What can we know about the Dutch digital detox cafe
A. It is the first cafe in Amsterdam. B. Interaction among people is advocated.
C. Only black smartphones are allowed there. D. Customers have to type 280 characters nonstop.
29. How did the cafe become more and more popular
A. By media’s advertising. B. By netizens’ commenting online.
C. By employees’ handing out leaflets. D. By customers’ word-of-mouth promoting.
30. Why is Belinda mentioned in the third paragraph
A. To show the effect of the cafe. B. To explain the cause of her anxiety.
C. To stress the seriousness of her situation. D. To introduce the problem of modern people.
31. What is Georgina Sturmer’s attitude towards the cafe
A. Ambiguous. B. worried. C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.

Autonomous systems like self-driving cars and robots are becoming more common, and their integration promises to transform industries by increasing efficiency and safety. However, they often fail to see and work well in different environments — like rainy dogs, low light, or complex backgrounds, because in these cases their sensors are affected. Interestingly, nature may have already shown how to deal with that.
Now, scientists have designed a new vision system for robots, enhancing object detection and recognition. The cat’s eye caught their attention due to cats’ excellent vision in both light and darkness. During the day, a cat’s pupil(瞳孔) is a vertical slit-like shape that reduces bright unpleasant lights to help focus. At night, the pupil widens to let in more light, with a surface enhancing the cat’s vision by reflecting visible light back. Similarly, the new system includes a slit-like opening design that helps block out unnecessary light and single out key objects in bright conditions, and then uses a surface similar to that of cats’eyes to improve visibility in low-light conditions.
Robotic cameras often have difficulty in spotting objects in busy or complex backgrounds, especially with changing lighting. The new design successfully makes background objects blurred. It allows robots to ignore unnecessary details and focus on targets. Scientists also use a brain-like learning network to help the system better identify important objects. The vision system is more energy efficient as it relies on a specialized instrument rather than substantial computer processing.
This groundbreaking technology unlocks exciting possibilities for real-world applications, transforming robotic vision and letting autonomous systems skillfully navigate complex environments and undertake tasks with great accuracy. From search and rescue operations to industrial monitoring, these cutting-edge robotic eyes stand ready to complement or even replace human efforts in a variety of critical scenes.
32. What can be known about autonomous systems in paragraph 1
A. Their sensor plays the most vital part. B. They perform poorly in bad conditions.
C. They keep changing based on nature. D. Their efficiency needs improvement.
33. How does the new system enhance visibility at night
A. By adopting a reflective device. B. By absorbing surrounding light.
C. By narrowing the slit-like opening. D. By integrating computer processing.
34. What does the underlined word "blurred" in paragraph 3 mean
A. Distinct. B. Regular C. Unclear. D. Colorless.
35. Which can be the best title for the text
A. New discovery about secrets of cats’ eyes B. Nature-based technology for nighttime use
C. Sensor breakthrough in autonomous systems D. Cat-inspired solution to robot vision problem

Du Fu is to Chinese literature what Shakespeare is to English literary tradition, and the great poet who wrote in the 56 (eight) century during the Tang dynasty is quoted widely in China today. Unlike English literature of that period — think Beowulf, 57 is not understood and read by readers of modern English, Du Fu’s poetry remains a classic easy to understand for modern Chinese readers.
However, no complete translation of his work was 58 (access) to foreigners until Stephen Owen, a Harvard professor, completed the six-volume, 3,000-page translation of The Poetry of Du Fu in 2016, 59 challenging task which took him 10 years to finish. In order to preserve 60 (vary)in the collection’s poetic voices, Owen thought of himself translating a great play with many characters. Doing it all himself 61 (allow) him to notice literary allusions across centuries, linking each text back to earlier works. Those references can easily be lost, and this is 62 happens when a scholar-translator only works on a single volume.
Usually 63 (consider) one of the most challenging works to translate, Du Fu’s collection of poetry features breadth in many aspects, whether in the choice of the subject, the way he conveys different registers 64 the use of layered meanings. Owen’s critical translation faces the original texts,

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a summer vacation morning, I went to a bookstore with my mom. As we stepped through the entrance, a large sign immediately captured my attention. It read,“Books: Open Doors to New Worlds. Discover, Dream, Delight.” These words seemed to dance in the sunlight, leading me to explore all the wonders they promised.
When we made our way between the shelves, I spotted a beautiful book with a cover that was a masterpiece of colors and images. Unconsciously, my hand reached out to trace the outlines of the illustrations. I turned to my mom, my eyes begging for this book, but she shook her head with a sad expression. Our family was going through a tough time financially, and there was no room for such an expensive purchase. Disappointed, I dragged my feet and left.
The next day, unable to resist the temptation, I found myself back at the store. I slipped the book into my bag, my hands trembling with a mix of excitement and guilt. Just as I was about to leave, the store owner noticed me. I froze, my face flushing with shame as I was caught red-handed. He stared at me, from whose eyes I could feel the judgement. I wanted to disappear, but there was no escape. With a shaky voice, I admitted stealing the book, and promised to make things right. As I walked out, the sign seemed to scold me. It was a reminder that the world I entered by a wrong path was disheartening.
I walked home slowly, each step filled with fear. When I saw my mom, I burst into tears and told her the truth. She looked disappointed, but there was a glimmer of relief in her eyes that I was honest. She hugged me and said softly, “You made a mistake, but you had the courage to face it. Remember, there are always right ways to get what you want.” I nodded. After a moment of silence, my mom said,“Let’s make things right.”
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。
As we walked back into the store , my heart was so heavy.
When I finished my summer job in the bookstore, the owner handed me the book with a smile.

As we walked back into the store, my heart was so heavy. However, encouraged by my mom, I gathered the courage and apologized to the store owner. Much to my surprise, the owner came up with(想出)an idea that he would give me the book as a reward for helping him in the store. Following his instructions carefully, I worked hard by dusting(擦去······的灰尘)book covers and arranging books neatly on the shelves. As I was engaged in(做,从事)these tasks during the vacation, I came to realize the value of earning something through honest work.
When I finished my summer job, the owner handed me the book with a smile. I received the book with a sense of pride and gratitude. The owner patted me on the shoulder and offered words of praise. My mom was also proud of me for working diligently(勤奋地)for my small dream. This scene made me even more aware of the significance of my efforts. As I walked out of the store, the sign seemed to smile at me. From that moment on, it was a constant(不断的)reminder that a delightful new world should be unlocked(发现)through honesty and kindness.
