It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus had come to the top. I would go out and see the sunrise.
Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea.”
“I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained, “I have made diving suits that used special air tanks before I sent you the note. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. Wonderful, isn’t it ” He said he had also made lights that worked in electric batteries. When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.
Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We went through it, and we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience.
We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper.
As we were a hundred metres under the water, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” there were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed trees.
Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.

He often went to the library to find new books and research about robots. When he had problems in study or experiments, he was brave and faced them.
After graduating, Wang Xingxing started his own company, Unitree Robotics (宇树科技). At first, it was very hard. There was not enough money, and it was difficult to find good team members. Environmentalists now believe more than 10 times the amount (数量) of plastic is polluting the world’s oceans than it is thought before.
Estimates (估计) had been made with the waste in coastal areas before. The old estimates said between 19 million and 52 million tons of plastic had been thrown into the Atlantic Ocean between 1950 and 2015. The new measurement (测量) found there were between 13 million and 23 million tons of quite small plastic particles (颗粒) —called microplastics—in the top 200 meters of the Atlantic Ocean. That shows that there could be around 220 million tons of plastic pollution in the full depth of the ocean.
Katsiaryna Pabortsava was the leader of the study. She told the Guardian newspaper, “Our key finding is that there are quite a lot of very, very small microplastic particles in the upper Atlantic Ocean, much higher than the old estimate. The amount of plastic has been greatly underestimated (低估).” She called on the government to think about what can be done to stop plastics making their way into the world’s oceans. She said research is needed into the ways those plastics take into our oceans, where they remain for years as they break down into smaller and smaller particles.
Earlier research published in April showed microplastics are being found in an increasingly large amount on the seabed. And a study in May showed the amount of microplastics in the oceans has likely been underestimated in the past. A study published in July said the amount of plastic making its way into oceans will likely be three times as large as it is now in the next 20 years, if things keep going on like this.
Science Daily noted that the measurements in the latest study were only of the world’s three most common kinds of plastic so the amount would likely be even larger if other kinds of plastics are measured.
37.How many tons of plastic were in the Atlantic ocean according to the old estimates
A.Around 220 million tons. B.Around 660 million tons.
C.Between 13 million and 23 million tons. D.Between 19 million and 52 million tons.

39.The study published in July suggested that ______.
A.the problem of microplastics in sea was underestimated
B.more and more microplastics are being found on the seabed
C.it takes many years for plastics to break down into microplastics
D.the issue of plastic in sea will be worse if nothing is done to stop it

C.Ocean exploration. D.Environmental protectors.
