Growing up by the river, I have a lot of good memories. Catching my first fish will always be the best childhood memory that I have, because it started a tradition between my father and me.
It was a hot summer afternoon. My father was fishing with me by the river. He put down his fishing pole and walked over to the far left side of the river and said, “Li Lei, look at this group of fish.”
I walked over and saw some little fish swimming around. I picked up a net that was next to me and tried to catch the fish. Every time the net got close to a fish, it would swim away! They were too fast for my little arms to keep up with. I tried again and again, but nothing worked. Then I saw a small fish. I slowly put the net around it, and thankfully the fish didn’t move. Once I got close enough, I pulled the net out of the water. However, there was just some weed(水草). I felt so disappointed.
“Li Lei, we should go back home now,” my father said. My father started to clean out the net.

三、Module3单元话题期末预测
Being an astronaut sounds cool, doesn’t it In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating in zero gravity.
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can’t do because of their weightless environment, and that’s very sad. What’s worse, they can’t even let their sadness show, because it’s impossible to cry in zero gravity.
Of course, astronauts can still produce tears. But crying is much more difficult in space, according to The Atlantic (大西洋月刊) in January. Without gravity, tears don’t flow down out of the eyes like they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go-they just stick (粘) to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. “Tears,” he said, “don’t fall off of your eyes. They just kind of stay there.”
Besides making your vision (视线) unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that’s not the case in space. The space environment dries out astronauts’ eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort. “My right eye is stinging (刺痛) like crazy,” Feustel told his teammate during the walk.
Since gravity doesn’t work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of (除去) the tears. Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe (擦) the tears away. Another choice is to just wait-“When the tears get big enough they simply break free of the eyes and float around,” astronaut Ron Parise told The Arlantic.
There are lots of small things-things like crying-that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space. There, astronauts can’t talk to each other directly. They also can’t eat or drink in normal ways. They can’t even burp (打嗝), because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up (呕吐) everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center.
Therefore, perhaps it’s only space explorers who can honestly say: “Gravity, you’re the best.”
1.From Paragraphs 2 and 3, we can know that ________.
A.astronauts produce fewer tears in space B.astronauts are unable to feel sad in space
C.tears produced in space don’t flow downward D.tears produced in space flow down more slowly
2.What effect do tears have on astronauts
A.They cause physical pain. B.They bring comfort to them.
C.They make their vision clearer D.They float around and cause trouble
3.The underlined phrase “take them for granted” in paragraph 7 means ________.
A.find them important B.consider them useless
C.need them once in a while D.think they’re not special
4.The second-to-last paragraph (paragraph 7) is mainly about ________.

B.other basic things that are difficult to do in space
C.things human can’t do without gravity
D.why burping is impossible in space

2.细节理解题。根据“Besides making your vision (视线) unclear, this can also cause physical pain.”可知,眼泪导致视线模糊和刺痛。故选A。
3.词句猜测题。根据“We usually take them for granted until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space.”
Humans have always dreamed of visiting Mars. Today, scientists are designing special spacecraft to make this possible. A trip to Mars would be much longer than the moon missions (代表团)—about 7 months one way!
The biggest challenge is keeping astronauts safe. Spacecraft must protect all astronauts from space radiation (辐射) and extreme (极端的) temperatures. They also need systems to recycle (循环) air and water because resupply (物资补给) from Earth won’t be possible. NASA’s Orion spacecraft and Space X’s Starship are being developed for this purpose.
Robotic spacecraft (机器人探测器) have already explored Mars. The Perseverance rover (毅力号) landed in 2021, collected soil samples (样本) and searched for signs of ancient life. These robots helped scientists choose the best landing sites for future human missions.
Future Mars spacecraft might use new technologies. Some engineers suggest using nuclear engines (核动力引擎) for faster travel. Others plan to make fuel (燃料) from Martian water ice. Living on Mars will need something special—it can block (阻隔) harmful space elements (要素).
While challenges remain, many people believe humans will walk on Mars before 2040. This journey could teach us about other planets and help develop technologies to protect Earth.
1.How long would the spacecraft take to get to Mars and then come back to Earth
A.Seven days. B.Seven months. C.Fourteen days. D.Fourteen months.
2.What difficulties will the astronauts meet on Mars
A.Space radiation, extreme temperatures and resupplies.
B.Space fuel, strong sunlight and cold temperature.
C.Space storms, water supply and soil differences.
D.Space radiation, air stress and ancient life.
3.Why are robots sent to Mars
A.To build cities on a new planet. B.To prepare for human missions.
C.To watch the movements of the enemy. D.To bring ancient life to Earth.
4.What might future Mars spacecraft use for fuel
A.Moon rocks and water power. B.Nuclear engines and Martian water ice.
C.Martian water ice and plant energy. D.Earth gasoline (汽油) and nuclear engines.
5.What is the main focus of the passage
A.History of Moon landings. B.Challenges in traveling to Mars.

四、Module4单元话题期末预测
Everyone knows you must exercise regularly to keep good health. Indeed, staying physically fit is a big part of our culture. We consider that healthy people are attractive people. Since most of us want to be attractive, there is no shortage of exercise clubs, training videos, magazines and books offering to help us stay physically fit.
Unfortunately, however, our culture doesn’t place the same emphasis (importance) on mental fitness. Although we tend to like men and women with strong, healthy-looking bodies, we don’t have the same degree of respect or attraction for smart, educated, mentally healthy people. This is a pity, because there are good rewards (回报) for people who have developed the ability to think well.
If your mind is well trained and flexible, you will be able to understand a great deal of what happens around you. And if you are also well educated—that is, if you understand basic science, mathematics, music, art, literature, history and so on—you will find it much easier to make good decisions throughout your life. Over the long run, this leads to a sense of control over your life and a much better life than otherwise.
People who are poorly educated or who don’t think well—that is, people who are not mentally fit—see things differently. Their world is controlled by mysterious, often evil forces. Such people live within a system they will never master, forced to follow rules they will never understand. Although it may not be obvious, most spend their lives being manipulated (操控) by others. They are told what to do, what to think, how to spend their money, and what they should and should not expect in life.
In my opinion, if you want to live well, you must be able to use your mind well. For this reason, I want you to be able to concentrate, to solve problems, to understand complex ideas, and to think clearly and quickly. Such skills will make it easier for you to make informed decisions, understand current events, choose good friends, manage your money well, make wise lone-term decisions and appreciate music, art and literature.
The key to developing such skills is to enjoy learning, and to have the ability and motivation to teach yourself.
1.What makes the writer feel disappointed
A.Too little has been done to help people to keep physically fit.
B.Too much has been done to help people to keep physically fit.
C.Mentally healthy people are not as popular as physically healthy people.
D.Physically healthy people are not as popular as mentally healthy people.
2.What does the writer think of those who are not mentally fit
A.They often do what others do.
B.They can’t control over their life.
C.They enjoy being fooled and ruled.
D.They live a poor and mysterious life.
3.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage

These days, many kids like collecting special items called “goods” (商品). Fans in China often call them “guzi”. Among these goods, the most popular is the badge (徽章), known as “baji”.
These badges are usually small and round, and there are pictures of characters from famous cartoons on them. However, not every company (公司) can sell badges. Usually, common badges might cost 15 to 30 yuan while prices of some limited edition (限量版) ones can go crazy. For example, a badge of a character from “Haikyu!!”once sold for 72,000 yuan.
Why are teenagers so into badges Maybe in their eyes, it’s a way to show love for their favorite cartoons. When fans wear a badge of their favorite character on their bag or jacket, they feel close to that character and the story. It’s like carrying a piece of that magical world with them. Besides, ▲ . At anime conventions (漫展), you can see some badge lovers talking to each other, buying or selling badges, and making friends. They know they’re part of a big group of people who love the same things.
But sometimes, this love can turn into something bad. Some fans spend too much money on badges. They might use the money for breakfast to buy an expensive badge. Others get really angry if they can't get the badge they want, or if someone else has a better collection. This is because they care so much about showing they’re the biggest fans.
Collecting “baji” and other “guzi” can be a fun hobby. It’s great to express your love for cartoons and make friends. She put down her phone, disappointment filling her heart. “I’m not part of their group anymore,” she thought, the weight of sadness pressing down on her. She wanted to go outside, but she didn’t know where to start. Her thoughts were a mess.
Just then, her phone lit up. It was a message from Sarah, her best friend: “Hey, Lily! Are you coming to the park We miss you!”

My friend, Robert, has a twin sister named Amanda. Though they get along well, there are some things about Amanda and her friends that puzzle (困惑) Robert. He can’t understand how girls can talk for so long. For example, sometimes when he leaves home to play football, Amanda and her friend, Sharon, are sitting on the sofa, talking. When he comes back three hours later, they’re still sitting there, going on with the same topic.
Boys and girls have different attitudes (态度) towards friendship. Friendships between girls are usually about sharing feelings and support, but boys prefer to share activities or interests. A boy seems to be more careful about sharing his feelings with his friends. A girl’s closest friend, however, might always be about to tell her about something that has happened in her life.
Many studies worldwide show that girls have more friendships than boys. In fact, many teenage (青少年) boys cannot name a single best friend. When asked, they hesitate before answering, “My best friend Er, I don’t think about that, and I have so many different friends that it is hard to choose just one best friend.” Girls who have been asked can usually answer the question without thinking, “A best friend Of course. We have a lot to share with each other and do a lot of things together.”
We have to realize: boys share activities, while girls share feelings more. But the most important thing to remember is that both of them need friendships.

“Li Lei, look here! You did catch a fish! It was just in the weed.” My father brought it to me. It was a very small fish, a little bigger than my hand.
That year, I was five years old. From then on, my dad and I often fished together. Almost every afternoon during the summer, we went fishing by the same river. It’s the small thing like this that makes the best memories.

A.suggestions of how astronauts can stay comfortable in space
B.other basic things that are difficult to do in space

C.How to become an astronaut. D.Animal life in space.
A.To encourage people to use their minds more
B.To compare physical fitness and mental fitness
C.To describe the benefits of doing daily exercise
D.To argue that training our minds is also important.

Homepage>News Source: Xinhua For fans of traditional culture, the film I Am What I Am (雄狮少年) can be a good choice. The 104-minute film has connected the lion dance culture with a boy’s pursuit of his dream. Set in Guangdong Province, the film is about the growth of a left-behind boy named A Juan. He met a girl who had the same name. Encouraged by her, A Juan decided to form a lion dance team with his two close friends A Mao and A Gou.
Only some cartoon companies have the right to sell those badges, and their prices differ a lot.
Homestay is a form of study abroad programme. It allows the visitor to rent a room from a local family to better understand the local lifestyle. “Students who wish to learn more about foreign cultures or to get foreign experience should join this kind of holiday. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.” said a teacher during a school meeting last term.
After this special meeting, I always thought about this kind of holiday. Last month, I had a chance at last to go on such a holiday with some of my schoolmates and we went to London, a place where I had wanted to go since years ago. As we were still young, we had a group leader who planned things for us and looked after us. After we got to London, we went to stay with different families. I was lucky that my host family(寄宿家庭) was a white couple who had a daughter about my age. They treated me as a daughter of their family during my stay there. They were interested in me and I learnt a lot of things from them, too.
The holiday was filled with activities every day. After breakfast, a local teacher would come to take us in his car. Then we would have classes or go on a sightseeing trip to different places of interest like the Big Ben, the London Bridge, and the Buckingham Palace. It was a Saturday afternoon, and Lily sat by herself at home. Her friends were at the park, laughing, taking photos, and sharing them on social media (社交媒体). As she looked at their posts, a wave of loneliness washed over her. They seemed so happy together.
Lily stared at the screen for a while. She didn’t want to seem needy, but she also felt left out. Finally, she typed back, “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. You’re having fun without me anyway.”
A few minutes later, Sarah replied: “Lily, I know something’s wrong. You don’t have to hide it. If you don’t want to come, that’s okay. But I’m here for you. Just let me know if you need anything.”
Lily felt a mix of sadness and comfort. She hadn’t realized how much she missed Sarah and their friendship. For a moment, she thought about ignoring(忽略) the message. But then, she realized that Sarah truly cared about her.
Lily quickly typed: “Sorry, Sarah. I didn’t mean that. I’ll come to the park now.”
When Lily arrived at the park, her friends welcomed her with big smiles. “We weren’t sure if you’d be free, so we didn’t ask earlier. But we really wanted you to come.” Sarah said and gave her a warm hug. The others joined in, offering her snacks and making space for her to sit. Lily felt warm and comfort as she realized that her sadness came from keeping her feelings inside. That day, Lily promised herself to always trust her friends and never let her worries keep her away from those who truly care.
