For only 20 yuan, Fang Wenjing could buy her lunch at a community canteen (社区食堂) in Hangzhou. She had a meat dish, a vegetable dish and a bowl of rice—all very healthy. “The dishes have a home-cooked taste.” said Fang.
Community canteens have become more and more popular in China recently. They were made for the old people at first. It can be difficult for some old people to cook on their own, so the canteens offer help. They can have lunch and dinner within a 10-minute walk, or community workers can bring the dishes to them. Zhang Suxia, a worker at a community canteen in Hangzhou, said that the cooks made special meals for the old. The food is soft and has less oil.
Now, the community canteens are bringing in more young people. For those who don’t want to order takeout meals or eat at restaurants, they can have healthier and cheaper dishes in the canteens.
This also encourages community canteens to think of creative ways to serve food and make things easier for people. A canteen in Beijing’s Lugu Community brings out buffet-style (自助模式) dishes. The dishes are sold at 2.48 yuan per 100 grams. The price is lower than those of restaurants close by.
There wouldn’t be so many community canteens without the work of local governments. They give subsidies (补贴) for building the canteens as well as the dining cost of the old people. There are now more than 6,700 community canteens in China, according to Tianyancha.

As a big fan of paper folding, Jaeil Jeong knew nothing about it before his parents brought home a paper folding book. Young Jeong quickly took an interest in the creations inside and learned to fold some of them himself.
As a result, he found it so interesting that he decided to take it up as a hobby. At first, he copied designs (图样) he found in books and gradually made great progress. He was able to create his own designs at the age of ten. Today Jeong has become a master in paper folding.
For Jeong, paper folding is not just a hobby. It’s a great way to clear his mind. “Whenever I study for a test or search for a job, I make sure I have a piece of paper with me,” Jeong said. “There are moments when things don’t go my way—that’s when I prefer to take my paper out and begin to fold. Learn to Love Yourself
Do you ever compare yourself to other people and wish you could be more like them We are all different in our own way. Self-acceptance (自我接纳) can help you feel happier and better about yourself.
What is self-acceptance
Self-acceptance means learning to accept the things that make you who you are. As well as being thankful for what you’re good at, like sports, science or singing in the school choir, self-acceptance also means valuing (重视) the parts of you that don’t shine very brightly, like being forgetful or untidy. A 12-year-old girl, Lily, says self-acceptance means “knowing your own weaknesses and strengths (强项), and accepting who you are no matter what other people say or think.”
Why is self-acceptance good for you
When you accept who you are, you worry less about things you can’t change. This makes you feel happier and more confident (自信的). The Anna Freud Centre, a charity (慈善机构) that helps young people, says everyone can feel that they have to be perfect, but that makes us forget about the little things that make us special, because we’re so busy trying to meet someone else’s standards. Learning to accept everything about yourself can also help you find what you’re really good at. For example, some people may find letters or numbers hard to read, but they might have strengths in other things, like finding good ways to work out problems.
5._________________________

Also, try saying kind, happy things to yourself in a mirror (镜子) every morning. There are many things people do every day. For example, adults must go to work. Children must go to school and do homework. There are times when we do not want to do these things. So, it is important to understand what motivates (激励) us.
Some think money will motivate people. Others might think rewards (奖励) are good. However, when the money or rewards go away, the motivation is gone, too.
What is a good way to motivate people First, giving people a purpose works well. A purpose is one’s reason for doing things. An adult’s purpose for working could be because working helps his or her family. A person who cannot find a purpose for a job will not want to do it.
Second, people are motivated by feelings because feelings can be strong. For example, love will motivate parents to do things for their children. When encouragement comes from oneself, self-talk adds to self-confidence (自信). A study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers put the players into two groups: one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group.
Talking to yourself, especially in the third person (第三人称), can also help you deal with bad feelings. “Referring to (指代) yourself in the third person leads people to think about themselves more similar to how others think about themselves,” said Jason Moser, a professor from Michigan State University, the US. This can help you see things from a different point of view, especially when you’re feeling sad or angry.
Self-talk also helps improve memory. Those who read out loud recalled (记起) the information best, which researchers said in their study published (发布) in the journal Memory. It’s because the information is likely to become a long-term memory if it is said out loud.
Researchers tested four different ways to memorize things: reading silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of one’s reading.

On the fourth day I found a campfire. It was still smoking. Somebody else was living on my island! Who was it I felt scared so I took my gun and climbed a tree. I watched for a long time but I didn’t see anyone. I went back to my tent and tried to sleep. I didn’t feel safe any more. The next day I went exploring. I kept my gun with me all the time. After a while I saw a fire through the trees. I went up to it very slowly and very quietly. A man was lying on the ground near the fire. He was asleep but there was a blanket over his head so I couldn’t see his face. I hid behind a bush and waited. I had to wait for a long time and it was starting to get dark when the man finally woke up. He stood up and took off the blanket. It was Jim, Miss Watson’s slave! I jumped out and ran up to him.
“Jim!” I said. “It’s me, Huck!”
“Huck! Is it really you ” Jim said, with a big smile.
“Yes, Jim, and I’m really happy to see you. But what are you doing here ”
“Well, alright then. The other day a businessman from New Orleans came to the house. I knew that Miss Watson wanted to sell me. I was scared. Then I ran away and hid on the island.”
We sat there chatting for a long time. I liked talking to Jim because he knew a lot of things. He understood signs. He knew which ones meant good luck and which ones meant bad luck. He knew which signs meant bad weather, too. When he saw some birds flying low in the sky he said, “It’s going to rain later, Huck. We must find a dry place to make a camp.”
The next day we climbed to the top of a big hill in the middle of the island and found a cave in the rock.
“This is a good place,” Jim said. “Let’s make our camp here!”
