四、阅读理解(满分30分)

You might have heard about identity theft (身份盗窃): it means a thief gets enough of someone’s information to commit fraud (诈骗). Why should people care about it Because recovering a stolen identity can be a hard process. Imagine that someone opens a credit card in your name, gets a cell phone number in your name, or buys things using a credit card that has your name on it.
ID thieves can be creative about getting your information. There are some low-tech ways they get it: sometimes they steal rubbish, going through it to find personal information, or they steal mail.
There are high-tech ways, too: ID thieves might put software onto your computer secretly. The software, called badware, let a thief see everything on your computer, and record everything you type on your computer. Unluckily, even if you’re really careful with your personal information, thieves can still get your personal information. Sometimes, they get into computer systems at shops, schools, hospitals or businesses. They look for personal information to use or sell to other thieves.
It’s pretty easy for you and your family to stop a thief stealing your identity. You can start with the low-tech defenses (防御). Be careful with your mail and rubbish. And be sure to take care of your wallet, or your backpack. It’s especially important not to carry your Social Security card with you. Keep it in a safe place at home.
Practice some higher-tech defenses, too: protect your computer by turning on an up-to-date firewall (防火墙). Once you’re online, be careful with your personal information. When you get emails or pop-ups on your computer, don’t respond automatically (自动响应). Stop and think before you click—it could help keep your information private, and keep badware off your computer.

In the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, one island stands alone. It is near Antarctica. But it is far away that people had difficulty finding it. At about 6.4 km long, the island is covered in glaciers(冰川). It is home to an inactive volcano(死火山)and huge amounts of ice. The sharp and high rocks around the island make sea landings almost impossible. This is Bouvet Island, the loneliest island in the world.
A French man found out Bouvet Island in 1739, but the island was so difficult to reach that nobody set foot on it for nearly a hundred years. No people live on Bouvet Island, and few plants grow there. Seals(海狮)come and go, but they haven’t seen people since the government didn’t allow people to catch seals and whales in the area any more. The island is cold all year round, with an average(平均的)temperature of about-1.7℃.
In recent years, Bouvet Island has been known a little more by the world. Norway, which claimed(宣称拥有)the island in 1928, set up an unmanned weather station there in 1977. Today, this quiet island near the South Pole sends weather data to a satellite(卫星), which passes the information to researchers in Norway. Scientists learn more every day about the island and its environment. Anyhow, Bouvet Island stands strong and silent in the cold weather condition.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
For some people, going to a new school or joining a new class may seem afraid. To help solve any worries, you can use the power of hope. It allows people to solve all kinds of problems.
Hope means looking at things in a positive (积极的) way. It’s a way of thinking that builds your view of the world, so you see that things have a positive end.
Hope makes you feel happy and full of energy. Writer Katherine Rundell believes that hope can make you feel you can achieve (实现) anything. She writes in The Book of Hopes that hope is “to believe that the world is so wonderful that giving up would be a mistake”. In this way, hope pushes us to do excellent things and achieve our dreams.
A good way to develop hopeful feelings is to practise positive thinking. Young Minds suggests creating a hope cloud, where you write your hopes down in a cloud shape. Next, write one thing you can do to get close to it and write one person you could ask for help. Think about how this changes your feelings. Remember that hope can encourage other people, so share it with your friends.

We all have problems that prevent us from moving forward. Some people deal with them by loving instead of hating. The word “love” means accepting your problems. The m 76 we deny (否定) a problem, the stronger it s 77 to become. Only when we accept the fact can we find the useful ways to deal with it.
Suppose one of your problems is t 78 a final exam. You fear that you will forget everything that you have remembered. One way of dealing with it is to pretend (假装) that you are not a 79 —tell yourself “I’m not going to be scared” and then try to smile.
But compared with that, loving your fear w 80 better. You just need to say to yourself, “I’m scared. But I’m going to take it anyway. It is not just a problem. It’s a 81 a chance for me to make progress.” By that, you allow yourself to be scared a 82 you can have a right attitude (态度) to your problems. You welcome your problems and face them in an active way, so there’s no doubt that you are more likely to overcome them c 83 .
It is impossible to live a life without problems. Loving them doesn’t mean h 84 them. Instead, it means admitting (承认) the t 85 about them. This helps us take useful action, which can free us of the problems once and for all.

25.D
