Years ago, I could not stick to exercising until I bought a CD called “ I enjoy
exercise.” I listened to it every day. I bought the CD because I wanted to run in a race
and hopefully win!
I had assured my 10-year-old son Todd that I would run in a race with him.
Unfortunately, however, when that race came, his left leg was hurt in a car accident.
Without him running with me, although I took part in that race, I didn’t do quite well in
it.
While Todd couldn’t run together with me because of his injury (受伤), he never forgot
the promise I made for him. He was always asking me whether I would keep my promise when he
recovered in the future. So I decided I was going to train and go all out to win the next
race. What I needed was motivation (动力). It happened that one of my friends mentioned the
CD which he liked very much, saying that he got a lot from the music in it when feeling

down. So I bought it and listened to it while exercising every day.
What happened to my thinking was amazing as I listened to it daily. I started to think
about the repeated words on the CD — “I enjoy exercise”. Instead of dreading exercise, I
was thinking, “I enjoy exercise.”
I found out how important words are that we play in our minds every day. I went from a
person who seldom exercised to someone who started to exercise daily. Just think how our
lives will improve if we reflect on the uplifting words of the famous works. I have found
the positive messages have greatly inspired me and then changed my life.
How did I do in that race, you might be thinking I actually became the champion in my
age group.
4.Why did the author take part in the race by herself

B.She had a good talent for running.
C.Her son got injured in a car accident.
D.Her son was unwilling to run with her.

B.By listening to the CD while running.

D.By forcing herself into keeping running.

A.Fearing. B.Improving.
C.Preferring. D.Taking.
7.What message does the author intend to deliver to us

C.Parents should get along well with children.
D.We can build up our bodies by regular exercise.

Stonehenge is a very famous stone circle located in southern England. For centuries,
historians have been extremely confused by it. On Wednesday, researchers brought out new
and unexpected information about the six-ton Altar Stone at Stonehenge.
For a long time, people believed that the Altar Stone, which lies in the middle of the
well-known circle, came from Wales. However, new research shows that it actually came from
Scotland, which is hundreds of miles away. This discovery raises new questions about how
people transported the stone about 5,000 years ago. According to a study published in the
journal Nature on Wednesday, the Altar Stone probably came from the Orcadian Basin in
Scotland, at least 466 miles from Stonehenge.
Chris Kirkland, one of the experts, said this discovery of where the Altar Stone came
from showed there was a high level of cooperation from local people during the Neolithic
period. Moving such a huge stone from Scotland to southern England by land would have been
extremely challenging. So, it’s likely they used a shipping route along the British coast.
Stonehenge is mainly made up of two kinds of stones: sarsen (砂岩) and bluestone. The
large sarsen stones mostly came from an area about 16 miles north of the monument. The
Altar Stone is considered a bluestone. Studies in the past have shown that most of
Stonehenge’ s bluestones came from Wales. To find out where the Altar Stone came from,
geologists examined its chemical characteristics and analyzed the minerals in the rock.
They found that the Altar Stone didn’t match the geology of Welsh rocks.
“While we can now say that this iconic rock is Scottish and not Welsh, the research
will still very much be on to pin down where exactly in the north-east of Scotland the
Altar Stone came from,” study co-author and Aberystwyth University professor Richard Bevins
said.
English Heritage, the organization that looks after Stonehenge, called this an
exciting discovery. They said in a social media post that the more we learn about
Stonehenge, the more questions we get. The purpose of Stonehenge is still a puzzle. Some
people think it was built for astronomical (天 文 的 ) reasons, while others think it was
related to human sacrifice (祭祀).

Imagine that you are in a crowded place. You do not notice, but someone is watching
you and learns your iPhone password(密 码 ). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your
photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken
from you.
Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It
has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder
for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.
Apple says the feature adds extra security for users. It addresses a drawback that
thieves have used to lock device owners out of their Apple accounts, delete their photos
and other files from their iCloud, and take money from their bank accounts.
SDP keeps track of a user’s “familiar locations”, such as their home or workplace.
It also reduces the importance of passwords. Instead, it favors “biometric”(生物识别的)
features such as faces or fingerprints, which are a lot harder to copy.
If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or
Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner. The new feature does not
let someone use the password or any other backup method.
Another part of the new feature is designed to slow down thieves trying to change
security settings. For example, if someone tries to sign out of an Apple ID account, change

the password or reset the phone in an unfamiliar location, they will have to authenticate(
证实)by using Face ID or Touch ID, wait an hour, and then do a second facial or fingerprint
scan.
Changing an Apple ID password, updating Apple ID security settings, adding or removing
Face or Touch ID, and turning off the Find My device feature or Stolen Device Protection
also will lead to this feature.
12.What is the function of paragraph 1
A.To set a phone-stealing scene.
B.To introduce the following text.
C.To remind readers to be cautious.
D.To explain how password theft directly causes device loss.
13.What can SDP do to add security for users
A.Stop iCloud files from being deleted.
B.Make it less likely to enter the phone.
C.Secure Apple accounts with remote locking.
D.Prevent thieves from accessing bank accounts.
14.What does SDP require for resetting a stolen iPhone
A.Previous passwords.B.A new security setting.C.An Apple ID account. D.Identity
recognition.
15.What does the passage mainly talk about
A.iPhone’s anti-theft measure. B.Apple ID security settings.
C.Usage of biometric features. D.Apple’s iOS operating system.

I was brought up in a really strict Catholic (天主教的) family. It was just expected
that we would go to church every Sunday and that we would “keep the faith Catholicism” as
my parents received it. I never bothered to oppose religion as many of my friends did. For
some reason I couldn’t quite express myself to my parent’s disappointment.
My parents and I never really saw eye to eye about anything. When I was younger it was
just the simple thing—the length of my skirt, how I chose to wear my hair or the movies I
wanted to watch. But as I got older I found that there was a lot more that we didn’t agree
on—my choice of friends, what I wanted to study at university, or how I chose to spend my
weekends.
I left home at 17 to study at a university in another city. Moving away from home
totally broadened my outlook on the world and changed my opinion on lots of issues. Over
the past two years I’ve met the most amazing people with the most extraordinarily diverse
experiences. My circle of friends includes people with different religions, beliefs, values,
cultures and different ways of approaching life. I’ve learnt to question what I’ve been
taught and disagree just because that is what “everybody else” thinks.
The first couple of times I went home to visit my parents I found it really hard to
succeed in dealing with being able to express my opinions as freely as I did when I was
away from home. My mum didn’t necessarily agree with my upfront attitude to life. While I
was always out there trying to get people to take me and my beliefs and opinions seriously,
her attitude was “why fight it ...why not go with the fashion ” It was really annoying. I
used to get really upset, for my parents didn’t agree with what I was doing. How did Ideal

Unfortunately, however, when that race came, his left leg was
It happened that one of my friends mentioned the CD which
he liked very much, saying that he got a lot from the music in it when feeling down. So I bought it
and listened to it while exercising every day.(碰巧我的一个朋友提到了他非常喜欢的 CD,他说
I started to think about the repeated words on the CD — “I enjoy exercise”. Instead
of dreading exercise, I was thinking, “I enjoy exercise.”(我开始想起 CD 上重复的那句话——
“我喜欢运动”。我不是害怕运动,而是在想:“我喜欢运动。”)”可知,作者通过在运行时听 CD
获得了运动的动力。故选 B。
6.词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“I started to think about the repeated words on the CD — “I
enjoy exercise”.
文“I was thinking, “I enjoy exercise.”(而是在想:“我喜欢运动。”)可知,dreading exercise 和下文

8.主旨大意题。根据第二段“For a long time, people believed that the Altar Stone, which lies in
the middle of the well-known circle, came from Wales. However, new research shows that it
actually came from Scotland, which is hundreds of miles away. This discovery raises new
questions about how people transported the stone about 5,000 years ago. According to a study
published in the journal Nature on Wednesday, the Altar Stone probably came from the Orcadian
Basin in Scotland, at least 466 miles from Stonehenge.(很长一段时间以来,人们都认为位于这

Chris Kirkland, one of the experts, said this discovery of where
the Altar Stone came from showed there was a high level of cooperation from local people during
故选 A 项。
While we can now say that this iconic rock is Scottish and not
Welsh(虽然我们现在可以说这块标志性的石头是苏格兰的,而不是威尔士的)”和后文“where
exactly in the north-east of Scotland the Altar Stone came from(这块祭坛石在苏格兰东北部的
While we can now say that this
iconic rock is Scottish and not Welsh, the research will still very much be on to pin down where
exactly in the north-east of Scotland the Altar Stone came from(虽然我们现在可以说这块标志

Paragraph 1:
Gradually I understood some keywords: communicate with parents as often as possible. This
realization dawned on me as I began to see the bridges of understanding that frequent
conversations built between us. Each call, every shared meal where we talked openly, and even
those casual text messages throughout the day, all contributed to a stronger bond. I learned that by
sharing my thoughts, fears, and achievements, I wasn’t just seeking validation but also creating a
safe space for my parents to do the same. Our conversations became more meaningful, revealing
layers of each other’s lives that we might have otherwise missed. The frequency of our
communication, I realized, was the key to nurturing a relationship that transcended time and
distance.
Paragraph 2:
The next keywords were to respect with each other. This principle resonated deeply, reminding me
that the foundation of any healthy relationship, including that with my parents, rested on mutual
respect. It meant listening attentively to their opinions, even if I disagreed, and acknowledging
their experiences and perspectives. I started to make an effort to understand their decisions, even if
they seemed outdated or unreasonable to me. In return, I expected the same level of respect from
them, asking for their understanding when I made choices that differed from theirs. We learned to
disagree without being disagreeable, finding common ground amidst our differences. This mutual
respect fostered an environment where we could grow together, supporting each other’s
aspirations and dreams, even as we navigated the complexities of life.
