The International Space Station (The ISS) is a large spacecraft. It travels around the Earth. Astronauts from
around the world live at the ISS for weeks or months at a time.
Williams and Wilmore are astronauts with NASA, the United States space agency. They both arrived at the
ISS in June 2024. They were supposed to stay there for 12 days.
But then their spacecraft had technical problems. So, their stay on the ISS became much longer. Finally, on
March, 2025, Williams and Wilmore returned to Earth. They landed in the water near Florida. Two other

“What a fantastic ride, ” said Hague after landing down, “I see smiles on everyone’s face. ”
After landing, the four astronauts got a medical check. They were flown to NASA’s Johnson Space Center
in Houston, Texas. The astronauts will stay there for several days. Then, they can finally go home!
Williams and Wilmore flew to the ISS in a Boeing spacecraft. During their ride, the spacecraft started to
leak helium, a gas used to help it work. Some parts got too hot. NASA did not want the astronauts to fly home in
that spacecraft. The space agency said it was too dangerous.
So, Williams and Wilmore joined the ISS. They ran hundreds of science experiments. They kept the
machines on the ISS running and they did three spacewalks. “That is what we do in human spaceflight, ” Wilmore
said, “We were ready to stay. ”
Williams has spent 608 days in space. Wilmore has spent 464 days in space. That is more than most
astronauts!
1.How many months have Williams and Wilmore stayed on the ISS
2.How many astronauts returned to the earth in March
3.How did Hague feel about the Space ride
4.What was wrong with Boeing spacecraft
5.What did Williams and Wilmore do at the ISS

During their six-month stay in Tianhe, the three Chinese astronauts, Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe,
helped with the docking (对接), setting up and testing two labs, Wentian and Mengtian. They lived and worked
together at the station. Life in space is much different from life on the earth. How do astronauts live in space
Eating: In the past, astronauts could eat only small pieces of dried food. But now they are able to eat more
everyday food like fruit, vegetables and ice cream.
Sleeping: People in the ISS (国际空间站) have their own rooms. They have to tie (系) themselves to their
beds, or they’ll fly away! That seems like a strange way to sleep, but astronauts say sleeping in space is really not
too bad.
Exercising: This is more important in space than on the earth. Astronauts exercise on bikes and other
machines for about two hours every day. That way, they can still be healthy when they get back home.
Having fun: Astronauts can read books, play cards, listen to music or send e-mails to their friends and
families when they aren't working. Sometimes they just sit and look out of the window. It’s also much fun!
Astronauts are hard-working whether in space or on the earth. Though the work sometimes is difficult, they
are still interested in it and love the job. Many people think astronauts’ lives are very interesting and their dream
jobs are to be astronauts.
1.How long did Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe stay at the space station

A Letter Brings a Dream Closer
Before the Shenzhou XV crew (全体工作人员) came back to the earth after spending 186 days on China’s
space station, they sent a letter to the earth. It was to 16-year-old Tsering Dargye.
Tsering is from Lhokha, Xizang, and is studying at Beijing No. 80 High School. Over 10,000 people sent
letters to the crew, but Tsering was the only one to have an answer back. “What good luck to hear from the crew! I
want to thank China National Space Administration (中国国家航天局) for giving me the opportunity to write the
letter,” he said.
In his letter, Tsering showed his strong interest in the sky. When he was a child, his grandfather told him
stories about it. In 2021, he moved from Xizang to Beijing—from the place closest to the sky on the earth to the
place closest to the heart of China’s aerospace industry (航空航天工业).
The astronaut Fei Junlong wrote the letter to Tsering and encouraged him a lot. “As you wrote in your letter,
the road to success is never smooth (平坦的). Only by working hard can you make your dreams come true,” Fei
wrote. He ended the letter by wishing Tsering and his classmates success in their studies.

Shenzhou 13 set many records. Shenzhou 13 astronauts stayed for about six months in space. While staying,
they did two spacewalks and more than 20 experiments (实验) . They also gave two space classes and answered
questions from students. Wang Yaping became the first Chinese woman to do a spacewalk. Chinese people once
again made history with their hard work and talent.
China started its aerospace industry (航空航天工业) from almost nothing over 60 years ago. But many
scientists and workers have tried hard to overcome all kinds of difficulties. Thanks to them, the industry is
developing (发展) by leaps and bounds. In 2003, China became the third country in the world to send astronauts
into space. Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei took an about 21-hour-long space trip. Now after less than 20 years,
Chinese astronauts can stay in space for months. They can live in China’s own space station Tiangong. In the past
few years, China has also successfully sent the Yutu rovers (探测车) to the moon and the Zhurong rover to Mars.
Our country is going on to learn more about space. Let’s wait for more good news to arrive.
1.Did Chinese people welcome the Shenzhou 13 astronauts to come back home
2.How many experiments did the astronauts do while they were staying in space
3.Where can the astronauts live in space
4.Do you want to be an astronaut when you grow up why or why not

Have you ever imagined traveling to space as easily as taking a vacation With the development of the
technology, scientists believe that space travel might become a part of our lives sooner than we think.
Right now, only astronauts and a few very rich people can go to space. But companies like SpaceX and
Blue Origin are working hard to make space travel cheaper and safer. Some experts predict that by 2050, common
people might visit the Moon, Mars, or even stay in space hotels!
What could future space travel look like
Space Hotels: Imagine floating in zero gravity (引力) while watching Earth from a window! Orbital hotels
could offer special experiences like spacewalks or growing plants in space.
Moon Bases: Scientists plan to build research stations on the Moon. These bases might become stepping
stones (垫脚石) for deeper space exploration.
Mars Colonies: Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, dreams of building a city on Mars. But living there need to
solve challenges like radiation (辐射), extreme cold, and lack of air.
Is it good for everyone
While space travel sounds exciting, there are some different ideas. Some people worry about:
-Environmental problem: Rocket launches produce pollution.
-Cost: Will only the rich enjoy space vacations
-Safety: Space is full of dangers like radiation and debris (碎片).
What do YOU think Will space travel become as common as airplane trips Or should we focus more on
solving Earth’s problems first
1.According to some experts, what might common people be able to do by 10
2.How many kinds of future space travel are mentioned in the passage
3.What is the advantage of the Moon Bases for humans
4.What are the problems about future space travel according to the passage
5.Do you think space travel will be helpful for us Why

scientists and workers have tried hard to overcome all kinds of difficulties.

【答案】1.Common people might visit the Moon, Mars, or even stay in space hotels! 2.Three./3. 3.
It might become stepping stones for deeper space exploration./These bases might become stepping stones for
deeper space exploration. 4.Environmental problem, cost and safety. 5.Yes, I do. Because space travel
can help human make a deeper space exploration./No, I don’t. Because space travel will bring more
environmental problems in space.

重难语篇拔高练
(24-25 八年级下·山东潍坊·期中)阅读下面语篇,根据要求回答问题。
The International Space Station (The ISS) is a large spacecraft. It travels around the Earth. Astronauts from
around the world live at the ISS for weeks or months at a time.
Williams and Wilmore are astronauts with NASA, the United States space agency. They both arrived at the
ISS in June 2024. They were supposed to stay there for 12 days.
But then their spacecraft had technical problems. So, their stay on the ISS became much longer. Finally, on
March, 2025, Williams and Wilmore returned to Earth. They landed in the water near Florida. Two other
astronauts came home with them. One was Nick Hague, who is also from the U.S.
“What a fantastic ride,” said Hague after landing down, “I see smiles on everyone’s face.”
The space agency said it was too risky.
So, Williams and Wilmore joined the ISS. They ran hundreds of science experiments. They kept the
machines on the ISS running and they did three spacewalks. “That is what we do in human spaceflight,” Wilmore
said, “We were ready to stay.”
Williams has spent 608 days in space. Wilmore has spent 464 days in space. That is more than most
astronauts!
1.How many months have Williams and Wilmore stayed on the ISS
