THE FRENCH love bread of all types, but the baguette (法棍) famously holds a special place. Whether it's toasted with butter at breakfast or served in a basket at dinner, this bread has a role to play in almost every meal. It’s reported that about 320 baguettes are eaten per second. That’s an average (平均数) of half a baguette per person per day, and around 10 billion baguettes per year.
The baguette is much more than just food. It’s also a symbol of French culture and history. But how did this simple yet delicious bread come to be
The short answer: No one is certain who invented the baguette. Some people suggest that the idea of a long bread was brought from Vienna in the 19th century. Others believe it was created during the French Revolution. It was Napoleon Bonaparte who decided its shape so that soldiers could easily carry it. The baguette became popular in Paris in the 1920s. However, it took some time for the long loaf to be accepted in the countryside. At that time, people in rural areas preferred darker, round bread that could be kept longer.
During World War I, the baguette played an important role. It was a way for the French to keep their cultural identity (身份) when the country was taken over by Germany. Although faced with food shortages, bakers continued to make baguettes. During the war, the bread brought comfort to French people.
The traditional baguette is so important in French culture that it’s protected by law. In 1993, the French Bread Law was passed. It sets the rules for making a traditional baguette. According to the law, the baguette can only be made on site (现场) and with specific ingredients: wheat flour, water, yeast (酵母) and salt. Only three additives (添加剂) are allowed: 2% bean flour, 0. 5% soy flour, and 0. 3% wheat malt (小麦芽) flour.
Each year, Paris holds a competition to choose the best baguette in the city. The winner receives a medal and a prize of 4, 000 euros. They also receive the honor of becoming a baguette supplier (供应商) to the Elysee Palace (爱丽舍宫) for a year.
The next time you bite into a baguette, remember the rich history and cultural importance that this bread carries. Bon appétit (祝您好胃口)!

For some people, going to a new school or joining a new class may seem afraid. To help solve any worries, you can use the power of hope. It allows people to solve all kinds of problems.
Hope means looking at things in a positive (积极的) way. It’s a way of thinking that builds your view of the world, so you see that things have a positive end.
Hope makes you feel happy and full of energy. Writer Katherine Rundell believes that hope can make you feel you can achieve (实现) anything. A good way to develop hopeful feelings is to practise positive thinking. Young Minds suggests creating a hope cloud, where you write your hopes down in a cloud shape. Stress is a feeling you can have both in your mind and in your body. It can make you want to eat less, not talk to your friends and family.
A little stress in life is normal. But controlling stress is important because if you feel stressed for too long, it can seriously affect your body. Older people who have stress for a long time can develop heart disease, high blood pressure and other serious health problems.
The good news is that it can be very easy to control stress. Here are three tips:
Tip 1: Try to eat right. Some people who feel stressed try to feel much better by eating chocolates, ice cream and other sweets. A little sugar isn’t bad for you but don’t stop eating fruit and vegetables.
Tip 2: Exercise regularly. People who are very busy with jobs or family life can feel tired a lot. Getting regular exercise can give you more energy and help you think about the things in your life that give you stress.
Tip 3: Most importantly, watch out for each other. Stress can make you feel alone. It’s important to watch for stress in people that are close to you: friends look out for friends, teachers look out for students.

Taking tours plays an important part in our daily lives. Each holiday, many people visit big mountains, great rivers and beautiful islands (海岛) to enjoy natural beauty. Others go to ancient temples (古寺) and great buildings to explore the culture. Whatever your purpose is, travelling is one of the best ways for learning.
You may know some places by reading books or from others, but you can never get a real picture of these places until you visit them on your own. That is to say, seeing is believing. What’s more, if you are careful enough, you can learn much about geography and history of the places you visit during your travelling. While travelling, you can meet more people and make more friends. However, you also need to face some problems when you are travelling. First, places of interest are always full of people during holidays. Second, your guide may push you to shop here and there. So some people would like to stay at home rather than travel.
In my opinion, you’d better make a plan to where to go, when and how to leave, how long to stay and things to take before travelling. It helps to make your trip easier when you are travelling.

Going camping is the best fun in the world if we know how to do it. Every healthy boy and girl, if possible, should enjoy living outdoors for a week or two every year.
A group of four members makes a good number for a camping trip. They will probably agree better than two or three. They can do much of the camp work in pairs. No one needs to be left alone to look after the camp while the others go fishing or hunting or to some nearby towns for food and drinks.
It is always better to go camping with someone who has “camped out” before. If he cannot be found, then make your plans, decide what you will do and how you will do it, and take a few cooking lessons from your mother or someone else.
First, choose a leader, not because he is more important than the rest but because if someone goes ahead and gives directions, the life in camp will run much more easily and everyone will have a better time.
If it is your first experience in camping, you had better go somewhere near home. The best place is one that can be reached by car. If you have to carry your supplies (补给品) on your back or in a canoe (独木舟), the amount (数量) you can take will be much less.
After you have had some experience near home, you can safely try the other way. Where you go is of little importance. Near every large city there are some lakes or rivers where you can find a good camping site. Campers always have more fun if they are near some water, but if such a place is not easily found where you live, go into the forest. Try to get away from towns or villages. The wilder the place is, the better.
55.What does the writer think is the best fun in the world
56.How many members make a good number for a camping trip
57.Who can you learn cooking from before you go camping
58.What does a leader usually do for the life in camp
59.Where should you go after you have had some experience near home (至少列举2条)

This spring, the most eye-catching movie might be YOLO(《热辣滚烫》). By Apr. 10, it had made over 3.46 billion yuan at the box office.
Directed (执导) by Jia Ling, the movie tells the story of a woman tired of the world, finding herself and learning to love life through boxing (拳击). The name YOLO is short for the movie’s main idea —you only live once.
Jia didn’t study directing at university. And she believes this is both a good and bad thing. It makes her feel freer in film making because she doesn’t need to follow a fixed style (风格).
Before making YOLO, Jia was often seen as an overweight comedian (喜剧演员). She often made jokes about herself to make people laugh. For this movie, Jia lost 50 kg and looked very different. Some people online said even her voice became softer, and they call this a “rebirth” for Jia.
In Jia’s eyes, her change in look is her way of staying true to herself. “It’s hard to predict (预言) one’s life. I’m just following my heart but not looking for changes on purpose (故意地). Movies are now the best way to show myself, so I put all my energy (精力) into them,” Jia told Xinhua.
“Jia didn’t change at all. She’s just being more herself,” said talk show host Chen Luyu in her program A Date With Luyu(《鲁豫有约》).

61.Why does Jia Ling think it is a good thing not to study directing at university (不超过 10个词)

In the eyes of many foreigners, the Chinese are the best hosts and the worst guests in the world. And Western hosts sometimes look rude (粗鲁的) in the eyes of Chinese guests. It is because the guest-host relationship in China is quite different from that in some western countries.
In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese friend’s home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the west, generally the guest is not a god. Acting according to (根据) the host’s way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest.
My wife’s mother, a very kind Chinese lady, doesn’t smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually I want to stop them directly, but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that.
In most North American homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their houses. At the very least, you should ask “Is it OK if I smoke ”. But don’t be surprised if they say, “No, you can’t smoke.” In my culture, if you smoke in their houses, you are a bad guest, but if they don’t allow you to smoke in their houses, they are not rude hosts.
In a word, no matter where you are, the best way to be a good guest is to adapt to (适应) the local customs. Just as the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
