Koalas are often called koala bears, but they are not bears. They have small eyes, a big nose and round ears. And they have no tails. They can run as fast as a rabbit. They can also climb trees very well.
A koala mom usually has one baby at a time. When the baby is born (出生), it is only 2 cm long. It has no hair, no ears, and can’t see anything. It lives in its mom’s pouch (育儿袋), and stays there for about 6 months. That’s when it starts to see and grows ears and hair. After 8 to 9 months, it’s too big to get into the pouch, so it spends all its time on its mother’s back. At about 12 months, it leaves its mom to build its home. Usually, a koala can live for 16 years.
Now koalas are in great danger. Their numbers are dropping every year. A group called Bangalow Koalas started in 2019 to help save them. They’ve planted over 336,000 eucalyptus trees, and they want to plant 500,000 more by 2025. A worker of the group said, “We love the cute animals. But how do you find friendship and keep it The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed and take care of it to make it grow.
First, a good friend should be kind and patient (而才心的). For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints (抱怨) and do his or her best to help. To make a good friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives.
But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights (打架). What should you do when you have a fight with your friend You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn’t want to talk, you could write a letter.
There are three steps to being friends again: tell him or her how you are feeling, say what your friend has done wrong, and explain why you did this or that. Remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life.

A team of scientists found that spending two hours a week of class time in nature could help 10 to 12-year-olds with serious mental (心理的) health problems to feel better.
About 1, 000 children took part in the three-month-long study. They came from 33 different middle schools. All schools were near a park or green space. In the study, half of the children stayed at school, while the other half took part in some nature-based activities for two hours every week. During the two hours they spent in the park, scientists asked teachers to give their daily classes in subjects such as math, languages or science. Also, they asked teachers to hold some short 10-15-minute activities to improve students’ mental health. There were activities like drawing a tree, writing stories, talking about life in nature, and so on.
To see if there were changes in behavior (行为) over the study time, scientists asked students and teachers in the study to answer some questions. These questions could help scientists learn about the changes in children’s mental problems and behavioral difficulties.
The scientists found that after three months, the biggest changes in behavior appeared (出现) in children with the most serious mental problems, such as feeling nervous or having trouble getting along with classmates. Talks with the teachers also showed that children were more peaceful, relaxed and focused in class after the time spent in nature.
This study shows that nature-based programs can help children with more serious mental health problems. The programs may act as a helpful tool to ease school-aged children’s mental problems. According to the scientists, the results are meaningful for teachers to find better ways to help students in need. These low-cost and safe ways will play a bigger role in schools with green space.

This semester (学期), at Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, students and teachers have seen some changes. These changes happened because AI tools were brought in.
By using AI to come up with personalized (个性化的) exercises and exams, teachers at the school are able to help each student in different ways.
After students finish studying a unit, teachers use AI to pick different questions from an online database (数据库) that includes all kinds of materials outside school. This helps create a set of exercises for the unit, helping students strengthen their knowledge. “We don’t need to carry all the heavy exercise books any more,” said 14-year-old He Liyan.
Students complete the exercise questions on answer sheets (答卷). Then, teachers use the AI tool for grading. The tool provides data and graphics (图表) to help teachers understand both the overall class performance (表现) and each student’s progress.
“Our teacher no longer explains all the questions one by one. Instead, she looks at the common mistakes and provides one-on-one help for every one of us,” said 15-year-old Wang Dinghan.
Also, depending on their performance in past exams, students can get a personalized error log (错题日志) or homework made by AI. So students can spend less time on what they already know and study what they don’t know.
“I used to have a notebook where I wrote down my mistakes so that I could study them,” said Yu Zifu, 15. “But now, AI does it for me!”
