People usually feel excited when they go on vacation. But most people feel blue when
coming home after travelling. And this feeling is called post-vacation blues. If you feel blue after
travelling, here are some ways to help you get out of this bad feeling.
Give yourself a week to relax first. You don’t need to think what to do next and just be
relaxed. You can show your pet some love if you have one, watch your favourite TV shows or
listen to relaxing music.
After a week, do something useful and keep yourself busy. For example, when I came back
from Europe, I felt blue because I didn’t have a job and was living with my parents. So I decided
to find a job and make myself busy. If you don’t need a job, just try something like painting your
room or tidying your house. You can also do exercise, learn to cook, visit your friends and just do
anything you want!
It’s also a good idea to make a photo book and plan your next trip. Your photos taken on
vacation help you remember the good times you had. And you can plan to take another trip. Just
like Elbert Hubbard said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one.”
Next time when you feel blue, remember to try these ways. You’ll find going back to the
real life is not that terrible as you think.
29.The writer uses Elbert Hubbard’s words in Paragraph 4 to show ________.
A.people feel very tired and are not willing to travel again
B.people who have just had a vacation can plan a new trip
C.people are excited to share their vacation with their friends
D.people hope to travel again because they have had only one trip
30.What does the writer advise us to do after travelling
a. We can do something useful and keep ourselves busy after a week.
b. We should give ourselves a week to relax first.
c. We can make a photo book and keep a diary.
d. We shouldn’t stay up late but live a happy life.
e. We can remember the good times during the trip.
A.abd B.abe C.acd D.bce
31.Which is the right structure (结构) of the passage
A. B. C. D.
32.What is the passage mainly about
A.How to spend your holiday happily.
B.How to get out of post-holiday blues.
C.Why people have post-holiday blues.
D.What we should do before travelling.

The Chinese pingfeng, a folding screen, is an old invention (发明) and traditional Chinese
furniture. Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The pingfeng means protection
from wind, showing its purpose at the very beginning.
As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens
usually appears (出现) a dragon. It stands for nobility and power. The peacock, a beautiful bird,
can be seen on screens, too. It’s a symbol of everlasting (永久的) life. Beautiful flowers mean
good luck. Lots of people like to choose them as a popular design of the pingfeng. All the designs
carry people’s beautiful wishes.
Behind the pingfeng lies an interesting story. In the past, the unmarried daughter of a rich
family couldn’t be seen by men except her father, brothers or very close cousins. When an admirer
(仰慕者) paid a visit, however, she might take a secret look at him from a screen behind. Her
father would discuss poems with the young man and ask him to create (创造) one. If the daughter
and her father were glad with the young man’s poem and his looks, she might agree to marry
him.
Today the pingfeng is back in fashion for its beauty and its practical (实 际 的 ) use as
furniture. Acting as a moving wall, it can be the perfect match for modern sofas and walls, and it
adds style to them.

When Branwell was fourteen or fifteen, he did a lot of oil paintings. He painted people in
the village, and it was easy to know the faces in the pictures. Later, he did a fine painting of his
three sisters. I was very proud of him. We all decided he would become a famous artist.
Charlotte went to school again when she was fifteen. It was a much better school—Miss
Wooler’s school at Roe Head. I don’t think Charlotte liked school, but she wanted to be a
governess (女家庭教师), so she worked hard. I taught Branwell at home, and Aunt Branwell
taught Emily and Anne. The girls and Branwell were learning to play the piano, and Branwell
played the music in church (教堂).
Emily and Anne had dogs, and they used to take them for walks on the moors. Anne’s dog
was called Flossy, and Emily had a big strong one called Keeper. Keeper went everywhere with
her. I think Emily loved that dog more than any person. Emily was sometimes a difficult child.
She was very shy, and did not often speak to anyone outside the family. When she was older, I
sent her to school with Charlotte, but she hated it, so I brought her home and sent Anne instead.
Branwell was not shy. He could talk to anyone for hours. Everyone in Haworth liked him. I
remember the day in 1835 when Branwell went to London. He was eighteen years old, and he was
going to the Royal Academy in London to learn to be an artist. He walked down the hill in
Haworth with a bag of his best paintings on his back, and everyone in the village came out to see
him go. That was a great day for me. Something terrible happened in London, but I don’t know
what it was.
Branwel came back two weeks later, his face white, his clothes dirty. I don’t know what
happened in London. He refused to tell me. He just sat upstairs, alone in his room for hours.
Later, I paid for a room in Bradford for him to work in. He could paint pictures of famous
people there, I thought. It was easy work for him. But he couldn’t do it. He spent all my money,
and came home again after a while.
This was a sad time for me. My eyes were very bad, and I had to pay a young curate to help
me with my work for the church. My old servant, Tabby, broke her leg and was very ill. And then
one day I got a letter from Miss Wooler’s school. My curate read it to me.
“Dear Mr Bronte,” the letter said, “I am afraid that your daughter Anne is very ill, and...”
I don’t think I ever moved so fast in all my life. Six hours later, I was at Roe Head. The
next day Anne and Charlotte were at home. Anne was still alive, thank God! A month later she
was well again. Thank God.
All my children were safe at home.
I was happy to have them here. They were so clever, and kind, and they loved each other so
much. But I was an old man with bad eyes, and Aunt Branwell and I had very little money. My
children had to find work somewhere, in order to live.
But what kind of work could they do

Rice is life. Rice is at the heart of human civilization (文明). It supports industry, inspires
culture and feeds more than half of the world’s population. But the world is still struggling with
hunger. The demand for food is far from enough. As the world’s population is about to reach 9.8
billion by 2050, we need to produce 60 percent more food with less land. That is not easy.
We need more rice and better rice. Let’s have a look at what rice is made of. Normally, rice’
s flower contains both female and male organs (蕊). That allows it to pollinate itself without the
help of bees. Now, imagine there are two types of rice. Rice A is known for high yields (产量).
Rice B can fight against stress of weather. Our goal is to create a super Rice C that contains the
good advantage of both A and B.That means we need crossbreeding (杂交繁育).
Now we have a hybrid with the high yield quality from A and resistant to stress of weather
from B.So the key is to find this kind of rice.
In 1970, Chinese scientist Yuan Longping and his team found “the magic plant”. Three
years later, Yuan produced the world’s first hybrid rice-Nan You No. 2. With yields 20 percent
above conventional varieties, his creation can feed over 70 million people each year. Today,
hybrid rice is planted in more than half of total rice-growing area in China. It allows the country to
feed a quarter of the world’s population with 7 percent of the arable (可开垦的) land.
Yuan was later given the title of the “Father of Hybrid Rice”. And the influence of his
technology goes beyond the national border. Now, hybrid rice is grown in Asia, America and
Africa, even in sand and seashores.
In this case, hybrid rice has served China well and it can also feed a better world.
66.How did rice affect the human civilization
67.What’s the advantage of the super Rice C
68.When did Yuan produce the world’s first hybrid rice-Nan You No. 2

30.What does the writer advise us to do after travelling
a. We can do something useful and keep ourselves busy after a week.
b. We should give ourselves a week to relax first.
c. We can make a photo book and keep a diary.
d. We shouldn’t stay up late but live a happy life.
e. We can remember the good times during the trip.
A.abd B.abe C.acd D.bce

The Chinese pingfeng, a folding screen, is an old invention (发明) and traditional Chinese
furniture. Its earliest common use dates from the Han Dynasty. The pingfeng means protection
from wind, showing its purpose at the very beginning.
As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colourful paintings. On screens
usually appears (出现) a dragon. It stands for nobility and power. The peacock, a beautiful bird,

him.

【答案】范文:
Life is really a long journey. In my growing up life, I have been looking for ways to
improve myself.
First, I should always obey traffic rules when crossing the road. It is necessary to behave
politely in public places. For example, I must keep quiet in the library. Then, I want to live a green
life. I can save energy by turning off lights when I leave a room. Also, rubbish should be separated
into different groups carefully. Moreover, it’s wise of me to choose public transport.
Last but not least, as a student, I am ready to develop some good qualities. I want to be a
careful student. I should pay attention to every detail. As the saying goes “A miss is as good as a
