In 1980, when Campbell was a senior in high school,he took a civics(公民学)class with a teacher named Don Lawson. One of the units that Mr. Lawson taught was about the 1960s,and the objection to wars.
For two days, Mr. Lawson played them anti-war songs. On the second day, Campbell raised his hand with a question---Is this going to be on the test “And Mr. Lawson looked at me and said, ‘No, man, this is for you, to know that art can be an important vehicle for protest. ” Campbell said.
That was when Campbell had a flash of insight into what Mr. Lawson was trying to do. “It was like in the movies,” Campbell remembered. “A light went on in my head, and I had an aha moment. Oh well, he’d planned this material not for the content, but for my enrichment. ”
Campbell went on to earn a PhD in Biology. From there, he spent 30 years teaching biology at Davidson College. All along, he kept the lessons of Mr. Lawson in the back of his mind. He tried to communicate to his students the idea that they should be as greedy as possible in school, and learn as much as possible, instead of worrying about pleasing him. That was what Mr. Lawson did for him.
Looking back on his long academic career after his recent retirement,Campbell concluded, “That’s an amazing career---that actually I go around throwing lit matches onto piles and watching them take fire. And that’s pretty cool, because once they really understand what learning is, all you have to do is add that match, and poof (噗的一声)---they’re going to lean the rest of their lives. ”

Growing up, Roberto Luciani noticed that his brain worked differently than most people. He didn’t relate when people complained about a movie character looking different than how they’d imagined from the book, for instance. That’s because of Luciani’s inability to conjure up objects, people and scenes in his mind, a condition called aphantasia, or mind blindness.
In a recent study, Luciani, now a scientist, and his co-workers explored the connections between the senses, in this case, hearing and seeing. In most of our brains, these two senses cooperate. Auditory (听觉的) information influences activity in brain areas that handle vision. But in people with mind blindness, this connection isn’t as strong.
While in a brain scanner (扫描仪), blindfolded people listened to 3 sound scenes: A forest full of birds, a crowd of people, and a street crowded with traffic. In10 people without mind blindness, these auditory scenes created reliable features in parts of the brain’s visual area. But in 23 people with mind blindness, these features were too weak.
Scientist Lars Muckli explains that there are different ways people’s brains are connected. “Imagine this as a range with different levels of connection,” he says. “On one end, there are people suffering from mixed senses, for whom sounds and sights are strongly mixed together. In the middle are people with the mind’s eye, knowing something isn’t real, but sounds can still create images in their mind. On the other end, there are people with mind blindness where sounds don’t create any visual experience, not even weak ones. ”
The results help explain how brains of people with and without mind blindness differ, and they also raise philosophical questions about all the different ways people make sense of the world. “Mind blindness exists in a field of invisible differences between people that make our lived experiences unique, without us realizing,” Luciani says. “I find it appealing that there may be other differences remaining undiscovered in the shadow of us supposing other people experience the world like us. ”
What does the underlined phrase “conjure up” in paragraph 1 mean
Spot. B. Picture. C. Connect. D. Distinguish.
What did Luciani and his co-workers focus on in the study
How mind blindness affects people. B. Why someone has no mind’s eye.
C.How some senses interact in the brain. D. Why hearing decides visual activity.
30. What does the author intend to discuss about the study in paragraph 4
A.The experiment process. B. The research significance.
C. The existing limitations. D. The scientific interpretation
31.What broader implication does Luciani indicate about mind blindness
A. It explores diversity in human perception. B. It challenges shared experience assumptio18.
C. It generates unique individual experiences. D. It pushes back the boundaries of philosophy.

Less than 1% of European Paleolithic cave paintings feature plants. Museums and nature documentaries usually ignore plants, treating them as mere scenery for the actions of animal evolution (进化). The Light Eaters, an engaging book on recent discoveries in plant biology by Zoe Schlanger, will change how we humans see not only plants but the nature of all life.
We know little about the brain basis of awareness in animals, let alone in nerveless plants, but Schlanger’s visits to field sites and labs leave no doubt that, aware or not, plants sense their surroundings and make complex decisions. Leaves detect the sounds of insects chewing and activate appropriate chemical defenses. Flowers sweeten their nectar (花蜜) when they sense bees flying by. Plants seem to use memory to adjust their growth.
Schlanger points out that the scientific study of plants has advanced to the point where we could drop the quotation marks from plant “intelligence” without fear of wandering into false science. Meanwhile, we should see plants’ amazing differences. Plants sense, remember, and make decisions throughout their bodies, in contrast to our primarily brain-centered intelligence.
After six years of writing about climate change, Schlanger is tired; she sought stories that felt wonderful and alive, a search that led her to plants, and then this book. Sustained at home by the “satisfying plant drama” of climbing vines (藤蔓) and unfolding leaves, she also found joy and comfort in the latest botanical scientific discoveries. Reading about her pursuit of plant wonders, I felt a growing sense of admiration for plants and a bond with their lives.
Understanding plants intelligence redefines our everyday experience of eating plants or seeing them growing out of a gap in the sidewalk and makes us no longer feel totally separated from the natural world in crisis. It is good to be reminded that other species have purpose and skill. Plants have developed will on Earth for half a billion years. They represent not only intelligence but wisdom about how to live on in the face of change.
32. How do the examples in the beginning serve the text
A. By explaining recent plant biology discoveries. B. By listing commonly misunderstood plants.
C. By demonstrating people's disregard for plants. D. By highlighting plants' role in animal evolution.
33. What does Schlanger express in her book about plants
A. Their awareness is junior to human’s. B. Their decisions are relatively simple.
C. Their growth varies with the conditions. D. Their intelligence deserves recognition.
34. What motivated Schlanger to create The Light Eaters
A. Her personal experiences. B. Her home with rich plants.
C. The climate change issues. D. The scientific advancements.
35. What does the author think of understanding plant intelligence
A. It exposes some hidden unknowns. B. It helps save endangered species.
C. It deepens the human-nature connection. D. It clarifies the value of adaptability.

This past summer, my mom came home with an armful of books and a very serious look on her face. She said it was time I started reading “real books”, and I immediately complained. I’d been through this talk before: the one where she told me that I’d “thank her later” for making me a reader, and that books would make me “smarter” and give me “imagination”. I already had my phone, and group chats with friends. What did I need books for
Sill, when I saw the titles, I paused (停顿). These weren’t the classics she normally tried to push on me. These were books with bright covers, funny titles, and characters who looked like they could be real people. “Just give it a try,” Mom said, “You might even like them.”
Hesitantly, I picked up Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. But reading seemed like such a boring, task compared to the instant entertainment on my phone. I thought about my friends chatting in our group and the endless videos within easy reach. Books felt old-fashioned and slow, and demanded too much focus. Besides, what was the point of reading about made-up people when I had real friends and real stories all around me With a sigh, I threw the book onto my desk, half-expecting it to sit there, untouched, all summer.
Then, one night, there was a power failure. Unfortunately, my phone was dead, my laptop wasn’t charged, and there was nothing to do but lie there in bed, waiting for the power to come back on. When I looked around, I noticed the book Out of My Mind, siting there in the dark. With nothing better to do, I grabbed it, and opened the first page with a flashlight. I wasn’t expecting to read more than a paragraph. But after a few pages, I was actually curious.

Emotional maturity is a person’s ability to manage their emotions and life stressors in a healthy manner. Emotional maturity plays an important role in relationships, as it helps us resolve conflicts and enter satisfying and secure relationships. 36____________ Let’s see what they are.
First and foremost is self-awareness---the ability to recognize and understand our own emotions, motivations, and behaviors. Ifs like having an internal positioning system that helps us in our emotional world. Next comes empathy (感同身受)---the skill at putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes and understanding their views. 37____________ Emotional regulation, another crucial element, allows us to manage our emotions effectively. This way, we could learn to express them in healthy, productive ways. Its the difference between getting angry when things don’t go our way and calmly addressing the issue at hand.
Developing emotional maturity is a lifelong journey, not a destination. It’s a process that requires patience, self-reflection, and a willingness to step out of our comfort zone. But don’t worry. 38____________ For those struggling with emotional immaturity, it’s important to remember that change is possible. With devotion and the right tools, we can overcome patterns of immature behavior and develop healthier emotional responses.
39____________ By staying present and aware of our thoughts and feelings, we can better understand our emotional responses and regulate them more effectively. It’s like shining a spotlight on our inner world, casting light into the hidden corners of our mind. Seeking feedback from trusted people can also be invaluable. Sometimes, we’re too close to our own situation to see things clearly. 40____________ Journaling is useful too. Writing down our thoughts and feelings can help us process our emotions and gain insight into our behavior patterns. It’s like having a conversation with ourselves, uncovering hidden truths and developing self-awareness.

56. to promote
结构分析:句子主干是the China National Peking Opera Company has returned to Latin America; with four shows...programs是介词短语作状语;whose 和which 引导定语从句。

注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
By the time L finished the fist chapter, the power was back on. However, I was so fascinated that I kept reading late into the night completely absorbed. I found myself racing through the pages, unable to put the book down. Before I knew it, I’d read the entire book. I lay there, staring at the ceiling, with the story staying with me and filling me with emotions I hadn’t anticipated. Suddenly, a question came to mind: What would my friends think of this story Inspired by this thought, I decided to recommend it to them.
The next day, I shared the honk with my fiends excitedly. As they dived into the story, I saw their faces lit up. Realizing the excitement that a book could offer,we started a book club to appreciate more stories together. As word of our club spread a few new friends joined. Our little group grew big, united by a shared passion for reading. The simple act of sharing a book reminded us to establish profound connections with the written word. And I was grateful to my mom for introducing me to this wonderful world of books.

How is everything going I’m excited to share with you my creation in our school’s Hand-painted Cloth Bag Competition!
My design centered on environmental protection. I painted a colorful Earth which was surrounded by trees and birds, symbolizing harmony between humans and nature. I chose bright and lively colors to attract people’s attention. Using eco-friendly paints, I added the slogan “Reduce, Reuse Recycle” to emphasize sustainability.
The event was truly Inspiring! It allowed me to express creativity while raising eco-awareness. Seeing others’ diverse ideas, from abstract patterns to cultural themes, was fantastic. I also realized how small actions, like using cloth bags, can make a big difference.
Best regards,
