Second, we started recycling (回收利用). We tried to write on both sides of our paper, but not just on one side. We also classify our rubbish into different groups for bottles, paper and food. Mum kept the plastic shopping bags from the supermarket to use them again. Third, my family started to save water. We stopped taking long baths and had short showers instead. We washed the toilet with used water. Mum and Dad used less water to do the washing. My sister and I didn’t leave the tap running when we brushed our teeth.
At last, Mum and Dad began to save gas (汽油). Mum used to drive us to school, but now my sister and I ride our bikes to school. It’s hard work but a good way to exercise! Dad and a few of the people in his company also started to go to work in one car and share the cost.

The experiences of travelling alone really make me more adventurous (有冒险精神的). I think everyone should try at least once in their lives. Now I’m married. I go everywhere with my husband and it’s just not the same. The feeling of being on an adventure has gone. I miss travelling alone.
I then thought of my first solo (单独的) trip to South America. I went to South America and stayed there for six months. I find travelling with other people is not as exciting as travelling by myself. I don’t meet adventures with them but I can experience a lot when travelling alone. When travelling alone, I can choose what I will do next at any time. I can visit a place that I didn’t plan to see before. I can go there without having to agree with anyone first. I try to work out all my problems on my own and I become more independent (独立的).
However, there is just one thing that is not so good for me. I always hope that there are good hotels and safe transport routes (路线) in the places I will visit. So every time before I begin my solo trip, I have to make sure the hotel is good and the transport routes are safe.

Experience one of the most popular areas of France, the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed region. Visit a few of the regions’ many castles and learn about the Renaissance (文艺复兴) architecture and the historical figures. Read what other travelers say about their trip.
Our tour guide was perfect—he was on time and friendly. His introduction was full of historical facts and interesting anecdotes (趣闻). The castles were stunning (极好的) and the drive was delightful to the Loire and back to Paris. Lunch was delicious and the wines were tasty. Overall the tour was a pleasure from start to finish.

Gorgeous day! Very relaxing drive and just the right amount of time in each location. Our driver was wonderful. He was fluent in several languages and always on time. We had a really nice lunch during the second stop with the group. It was lovely! My favorite was Ch teau de Chenonceau. If you like castles and the countryside, this is a beautiful and relaxing tour!

Our tour was excellent. The van was very comfortable and the lunch was very good. However, the services for pick up and drop off were poor. We got a message that we would be picked by taxi at 6:15 a.m., but the driver came 10 minutes later. After lunch, our driver told us she could drop anyone off at different locations in Paris upon our return if we had dinner plans. Instead of heading to our location, she drove to the agency. We were finally at our hotel at 7:45, hot and tired. I paid almost 500 euros for 2 passengers and I had to leave my hotel earlier and return almost 2 hours! We were not treated fairly. This was not our experience with prior (先前的) tours with your agency.

Many Chinese people think it is enjoyable to have their own cars instead of bikes. The large number of cars have started a new cultural revolution (革命), changing the life and society just like what happened in America 50 years ago.
In Shanghai, more and more cars have appeared (出现) on the roads since 2002. At rush hour, it can take more than an hour for a taxi to ride from one side of Huangpu River Bridge to the other side. As the government has done a lot to make the traffic condition better, the number of cars on the roads is rising all the time.
Private (私人的) cars have brought about a new class of society, who drive to their offices from large, modern houses in the suburbs (郊区). “I enjoy the drive,” said a big company manager of the 30-minute-trip to his office in the center of Shanghai. “I know that driving cars costs more money than travelling by bus,” he said. “But this way, I feel more comfortable and it is much faster.”

I will never forget my school trip to Shanghai last week. It was a great learning experience!
We got there by train. It took us about 12 hours to get there, but the train ride was not boring, because we talked and studied along the way. When we finally got there, it was quite late. I was too tired to call my mom, although I missed her a lot. I didn’t realize (意识到) how much I would miss my mom until I was far away from home.
The trip lasted six days. During the first day, I learned how to fold a blanket by myself. It was great fun and useful to learn. On the second and third days, my classmates and I did a lot of things, including visiting an aircraft carrier (航空母舰). It rained heavily on the fourth day. We changed our schedule (计划) because of the weather. Thanks to the change in the weather, we played a game called “The Quickest”. It took our group only 2 minutes to finish the task. We won the game. We felt proud of our teamwork. I was so excited that I called my mom that day and told her how happy I was. We went back to Changchun on the sixth day. I had missed my family a lot when I was gone.

“Research shows that people who live a greener lifestyle have higher levels of reported well-being,” says Dr. Mark Willamson, from the charity Action for Happiness. If we want to have a green lifestyle (绿色生活方式), we cannot ignore natural resources. A natural resource is any material found in nature that is useful and important to human life.
Many sources of energy come from natural resources. Sunlight, wind, coal, oil and natural gas are all natural resources that people use as energy sources. Natural resources are important. People need natural resources every day. Without natural resources, life would be impossible.
Some natural resources are renewable (可再生的), which can be replaced and used again and again. The sun provides us with light and heat. Solar energy can be used to heat water and make electricity for homes. Water is something all living things need. Moving water is also used to make electricity. Wind is used as a source of energy and it also can be used to make electricity.
Some natural resources are not replaced as easily as others. That’s because they need hundreds, thousands, or even millions of years to grow up. These natural resources are nonrenewable resources which cannot be replaced when they are used up. Sooner or later we will run out of them, like metals, oil, rock, nuclear, stone, and natural gas.
So it is very important for us to use the resources correctly. Living sustainably (可持续地) can be a good choice. This means buying fewer plastic toys, drinking from a reusable water bottle and turning off the lights that are not needed. Try our best to protect the natural resources and live a greener life!

In China, more and more people have realized the climate (气候) change. Many young people live a low-carbon (低碳) life.
Zheng Xiyu is one of them. Every morning, she takes a bus to her office. It takes her about 40 minutes. But Zheng thinks of changing this. She wants to try a different type of transportation—cycling. “Riding a bicycle to work,” the lady says, “takes about the same amount of time as taking a bus. However, cycling is more convenient. And it’s better for the environment and my health.” she adds.
Professor (教授) Li Lin also leads a low-carbon lifestyle. Her office uses special lights. These lights go off themselves when people don’t need them. This has saved a large amount of electricity. Another way to save energy is to double-print the paper. Professor Li says these small actions are important for protecting the environment. “Let’s say you have saved one ton of paper. That means you have saved one ton of energy used for producing the paper. That’s about two and a half tons of CO2,” Professor Li says.
Lin Hui always chooses products with a longer life when he shops. He says this helps to reduce waste. Two years ago, Lin and his friends set an environment website. On the website, there are many tips about saying energy and protecting the environment.
