My friend recently told me about a film called The Farewell. It’s about a Chinese-American girl who lives with her parents in the United States. I was deeply attracted by the protagonist’s (主角的) family, so I decided to watch the film.
The opening scene shows Billie, the main character, on the phone with her grandma. Later on, the film tells that her grandma has cancer and only has a few months to live. The family decide to keep it a secret because they want Grandma to live the rest of her life free from worry.
Billie finally finds out about Grandma’s illness and wants to tell her, but her mom tells her not to. A few days later, Billie and her parents go back to visit her sick grandma, possibly for the last time. Staying with her grandma, Billie tells a lot of stories to her grandma and it also reminds her grandma of her childhood. Billie learns many valuable lessons and makes lots of happy memories.
This was a very emotional film to watch, especially the scene when Billie had to say farewell to her grandma. She was crying because she thought it would be the last time she would see her. Luckily, her grandma lives for another six years.
This film shows the cultural differences between China and America. For example, Billie was brought up in the US, where they teach children to always tell the truth. But sometimes, you have to consider the impact the truth will have on someone’s life, and it’s probably better to tell a good “lie” than the truth.
21.Who stopped Billie from telling her grandma about her illness
A.Billie’s father. B.Billie’s mother. C.Billie’s grandfather. D.The doctor.
22.Billie and her family go back to visit her grandma because ________.
A.they want to live with her grandma B.they want to know her health condition
C.they miss her grandma very much D.her grandma’s illness is getting really serious
23.What can we learn from the passage
A.Cultural differences make family relations worse. B.Billie tells her grandma the truth.
C.After being ill, Billie’s grandma still lives happily for years. D.Billie’s grandma brings her up.
24.The word “impact” can be replaced by “________”.
A.difference B.memory C.influence D.impression
25.What is NOT TRUE according to the passage
A.People in the U.S. always teach children to tell a lie. B.The family decide to hide the illness from her grandma.
C.People are touched by the farewell scene. D.Sometimes, it’s probably better to tell a good “lie”.

Sticking to a vegan (素食的) diet might sound difficult, especially since many popular dishes have meat in them. Yet in recent years, veganism has become one of the fastest-growing trends in the world. According to Huff Post, more than 3 million people in the United States are vegans. In the UK, about 542, 000 people have chosen veganism over the past 10 years.
What is driving this growth in veganism One reason might be that people want to protect the environment. According to a 2013 study by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, global meat manufacturing (加工) causes about 18 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions (排放). This is more than all the world’s cars, trains and planes combined.
According to BBC News, one reason is that many of today’s young people believe it’s wrong to kill animals for food. For many people, veganism simply means eating no meat, cheese or eggs, but going animal-free also applies to fashion and manufacturing. For example, leather is used to make shoes and clothing. Every year more than 1 billion animals, from cows to horses to snakes, are killed to make products from their skins. Now, many brands are looking for other materials.
The sports brand Puma, for example, has made shoes out of pineapple leaves. Tesla, the US carmaker, is said to be taking away animal-based leather from its seats. Earlier this year, US singer Lady Gaga created the vegan makeup brand Haus Laboratories. On the brand’s Instagram account, it says: “Cruelty-free and vegan, because we love animals and you.” So, if you’re interested in protecting animals and saving the environment, you might want to give veganism a try.
26.In what kind of ways does the writer tell us veganism has become popular
A.By using numbers. B.By providing causes.
C.By doing a survey. D.By sharing his own experiences.
27.More and more people are choosing veganism because ________.
A.they think eating meat is not healthy B.processing meat pollutes the environment
C.veganism has become one of the fastest-growing trends in the world D.there are new materials to replace animal products
28.The examples in Paragraph 4 show that ________.
A.some brands and famous people try to protect animals B.many famous people are vegans
C.veganism is popular all over the world D.we can live on plants in the future
29.“Cruelty-free” in Paragraph 4 means ________.
A.no animals are killed B.environmentally friendly
C.some animals are harmed D.we are free to be cruel
30.What’s the main purpose of the passage
A.To help people choose a healthy diet. B.To call on people to protect the environment.
C.To introduce the trend of veganism. D.To explain animal cruelty.

Most teenagers need to learn how to develop good study habits. Learning good study methods can make you feel less stressed about school and improve grades. Here are some useful methods.
Make a plan ahead of time. First, create a calendar. Use a large wall calendar and write all of your tasks and activities on it. Next, create a weekly plan. 31 You should make sure that it includes time to work on each task a few days before it’s due. 32 This to-do list helps you to know what you should do a day and see how much progress you’re making.
Consider study environment. 33 Maybe you work better alone. Or, maybe you like to work in a group. No matter what place you choose, when it’s homework time, that’s the environment you should study in.
34 It can be very distracting (令人分心的) to have to look for a pencil or a ruler in the middle of studying. Find a place where it can keep all your homework materials so you’re ready to go.
Keep a worry notepad (便笺). If you are easily distracted by your own thoughts, a worry notepad is a good tool for you. Instead of trying to deal with all the distracting things, you can write them down on the notepad. 35
Good study habits don’t always come easily. It takes time to develop them.
A.Have all materials on hand.
B.Make a study plan for each week.
C.Then, it’s time to create a daily list.

Xi’an celebrated the first-ever China Hanfu Day on April 18, 2017. There were catwalks shows and traditional music concerts which were held by people wearing traditional Chinese clothing. Hanfu fans from all over China gathered there to take photos and put them online for a Hanfu photo competition.
The event encourages young Chinese people to wear and take part in Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group(汉族).
The organizers said, “Traditional culture is the lifeblood of China. We hope young Chinese people can wear our traditional clothing during festivals to show China’s unusual culture to the world. Follow and Grow
A country has its laws and a family has its rules, too. My family also has some rules.
My parents don’t allow me to play computer games in my free time. I am not allowed to stay up late because they think teenagers should have enough sleep to keep healthy. I can’t go out on school nights. Because they worry about my safety.
I think my parents are too strict with me. But I understand they really love me. I communicate with my parents as much as possible, sharing my happiness and sadness with them. And I often help them with housework. All in all, I love my family rules which make me grow.
