Dear future Linda (or rather myself),
I hope when you read this letter you don’t find my writing too messy! At the moment, I’m 15 years old and
living at home with my family. I love school and have lots of good friends. We do lots of fun things together like
parties, ice skating and swimming. My biggest worry is not doing well in my school exams, but I’m working really
hard so hopefully I have nothing to concern about.
There’s so much I (you!) want to do. I hope you’ve travelled all over the world and seen lots of things outside
and met lots of people. I hope you’ve visited the Great Wall in China and the pyramids in Egypt, shopped in New
York City and in Paris, seen polar bears in Norway and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I’ve just remembered,
you always wanted to see elephants in India—I hope you’ve managed to do that too.
I promise myself I’ll always try my best and have no regrets. I never want to forget where every step of my
life has taken me. Already it seems as if so much has happened. I’ve moved from primary to junior middle school
(about to graduate), been taught to swim and dance (I love ballet dancing), learned to speak Chinese and French,
and raised money for those who are in need by selling old toys and books.
I really hope you’re happy. I hope you have a successful career that you enjoy doing and look forward to each
morning when you wake up. I hope you’re surrounded by good friends and family and maybe also have a family of

What time is it The answer you give can be different, because you are in different Earth’s time zones(时区).
But how could you tell the time if you aren’t anywhere on Earth
Scientists are now thinking of creating a lunar( 月球的 ) time zone. They believe it would be better for
astronauts to communicate by using Moon Time, as they travel to, from, and across the Moon. At the moment,
astronauts are using time zones of their own countries. But there could be safety problems caused by the differences
in time-telling.
________ Gravity(引力) influences how quickly or slowly time passes. Since gravity is weaker on the Moon,
clocks run a bit faster there. After 24 hours, a lunar clock would be 56 microseconds ahead of a clock on Earth.
Another point to consider is that a full day on Earth is about 24 hours between two sunsets. While on the Moon, it
is nearly 709 hours, about 29.5 Earth days. This means that lunar nights can be around two weeks long, with only
the Earth and the stars in the sky. With all this to think about, scientists need to decide whether it would be better to
follow a time zone on Earth, or for the Moon to have its own special zone, which would have much longer days.
Scientists must consider other problems too. For example, who should be responsible for keeping the time
zone going And how can it be made practical for astronauts to use
4 / 9
There are more countries planning Moon trips in the future. The idea of creating a time zone on the Moon
would make these easier. And if a lunar time zone is set up, scientists could create time zones for other planets like
Mars.
13.Scientists think that a lunar time zone can ________.
A.keep the Moon clean B.keep astronauts healthy
C.make the Moon trips safer D.make space travel faster
14.Which of the following can be put in the blank ________ in Paragraph 3
A.Setting up a lunar time zone is not easy.
B.Setting up a special time zone is important.
C.Scientists are holding different opinions.
D.Scientists need to do a lot of experiments.
15.If the Moon has its own special time zone, a full day of it can be about ________ on Earth.
A.56 microseconds B.24 hours C.two weeks D.29.5 days
16.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the passage
A.To give information about space travel. B.To introduce the idea of Moon Time.
C.To describe an experience of time travel. D.To share news about landing on Mars.

The earliest form of writing appeared about 5, 500 years ago. In the past, hand writing was an important
subject in school. Now, many students sometimes do homework on a computer and turn in their tasks online.
Many people think typing (打字) is quick and easy to read, while writing by hand may take longer than typing.
But others say writing with a pen and paper is more valuable. Writing by hand has big advantages. Research shows
that when we write down ideas with a pen or pencil, we make the brain active to help us learn, remember and think.
Writing by hand lets people show their creativity. No two people have the same handwriting. Writing by hand can
also help people concentrate. When using a computer, people can go online or play computer games easily.
Handwriting may be pretty, however, people can get their ideas and thoughts down more quickly when they
type. Typing can also make it easier for people to change. Once something is written by hand, you can’t delete it. If
you want to make a change, you have to write it all over again. What’s more, some people’s handwriting may be
hard to read. Typing makes everything clear, and no one will have to worry about their words being clear enough.

Dear Mrs. Sandra,
I am very excited to tell you something about the English Opera Competition I took part in last week in our
school.
I got First Prize out of 40 competitors, which was totally beyond my imagination. When I heard the final
result, I couldn’t believe my ears and jumped with joy.
It’s because of your efforts that I have made such rapid progress in my spoken English. Before the contest,
whenever you had free time, you would help me practise my spoken English. Besides, you communicated with me
as much as possible, and corrected my pronunciation and intonation. What’s more, you taught me some helpful
speaking skills and made me full of confidence. Without your help, I wouldn’t have achieved such a good result.
Also, I have benefited a lot from this competition. All in all, I really appreciated your help.

I hope you’re surrounded by good friends and family and maybe also have a family of
your own. More than anything else, I hope you’ve enjoyed every single moment so far!
Love Linda

With all this to think about, scientists need to decide whether it would be better to
5 / 14
follow a time zone on Earth, or for the Moon to have its own special zone, which would have much longer days.
Scientists must consider other problems too. For example, who should be responsible for keeping the time
zone going And how can it be made practical for astronauts to use

would make these easier. And if a lunar time zone is set up, scientists could create time zones for other planets like
Mars.

15.If the Moon has its own special time zone, a full day of it can be about ________ on Earth.
A.56 microseconds B.24 hours C.two weeks D.29.5 days
16.What is the writer’s purpose in writing the passage

The earliest form of writing appeared about 5, 500 years ago. In the past, hand writing was an important
subject in school. Now, many students sometimes do homework on a computer and turn in their tasks online.
Many people think typing (打字) is quick and easy to read, while writing by hand may take longer than typing.
But others say writing with a pen and paper is more valuable. Writing by hand has big advantages. Research shows
11 / 14
that when we write down ideas with a pen or pencil, we make the brain active to help us learn, remember and think.
